Alpha Lion Delivers Glycerol in a Pill with Gains Candy HydroPrime

Alpha Lion is a brand known for bringing new, cutting-edge sports nutrition ingredients to market, such as GlucoVantage, CaloriBurn, MitoBurn, and now, HydroPrime. The majority of these innovative ingredients are used in comprehensive formulas.

Alpha Lion Gains Candy Series

The Gains Candy Series continues to grow!

For example, MitoBurn is used in the fat-burning pre-workout, SuperHuman Burn; and HydroPrime is in SuperHuman Pump, a multi-ingredient formula that boosts mental focus, performance, and muscular pumps. However, in order to give consumers a chance to try these trademarked ingredients on their own and experience how effective they are, Alpha Lion came up with the Gains Candy Series.

Obviously the Gains Candy Series isn’t candy, though the brightly colored capsules may remind you of sweets. In reality, the Gains Candy Series consist of single-ingredient supplements from leading ingredient researchers and developers, including NNB Nutrition.

The Gains Candy Series makes it easy to customize your supplement stack. And because the line is capsule-based, they’re very convenient to take on-the-go. You can either stack several Gains Candy supplements, use them in combination with other multi-ingredient products, or just take them on their own.

HydroPrime Joins The Gains Candy Series

In 2020, Alpha Lion expanded the Gains Candy series with trademarked ingredients from NNB Nutrition, including CaloriBurn, MitoBurn, and GlucoVantage. With the launch of SuperHuman Pump (a reformulation of Komodo Pump), Alpha Lion added a new member to the Gains Candy family— HydroPrime!

Try out HydroPrime on its own with Alpha Lion Gains Candy HydroPrime!

If you’ve read some of our previous articles on HydroPrime, then you know why Alpha Lion decided to use it in place of GlycerPump when they reformulated SuperHuman Pump. But, in case you missed it, here’s a quick overview of why HydroPrime is superior to other glycerol powders on the market.

Glycerol is a common ingredient in pre-workouts and pump products due to its unique water-attracting properties. It’s great for enhancing performance and muscular pumps in the gym, but not so great when the power is exposed to moisture while still in the tub. Nearly every form of glycerol available clumps and it can make your entire pre-workout hard as a rock.

Not only is this frustrating for consumers, but it can also cost supplement companies a great amount of time and money. So NNB Nutrition figured out a way to solve this problem. HydroPrime is a stabilized form of glycerol that is less prone to clumping. An easy way to remember it is that HydroPrime delivers more pumps and fewer clumps.

In addition to putting HydroPrime in SuperHuman Pump, Alpha Lion made it into a Gains Candy supplement. In capsule form, the supplement is guaranteed to not clump. Also, you can add as much glycerol as you want to your pre-workout stack.

Gains Candy HydroPrime Ingredient Explanation

Gains Candy HydroPrime was designed to promote hydration, enhance endurance and performance, support cardiovascular health, and increase muscular pumps. Each bottle comes with 120 500-milligram dose capsules.

For optimal results, Alpha Lion recommends taking two to four capsules, with a pre-workout supplement of your choice, 15 to 30 minutes before training. You can also take up to 10 capsules on their own 15 to 30 minutes prior to training.

  • HydroPrime (Glycerol Powder) (Standardized for Minimum 65% Glycerol) – 500mg

Glycerol, also known as 1,2,3-propanetriol, is classified as a sugar alcohol that can be produced in the body by various substrates, including glucose, proteins, triacylglycerols, and pyruvate, through glycerolipid metabolic pathways.[1] Glycerol can also be consumed through supplementation. It’s been shown to be safe at doses up to 5 grams per kilogram of bodyweight.

Once glycerol is absorbed by the small intestines, it accumulates in bodily fluids (everywhere except the brain and eyes). As a result, glycerol causes an increase in osmotic pressure and the total volume of water in the body.[1] Although glycerol can be utilized as an energy substrate to fuel physical activity, it’s most commonly consumed to promote hydration.

Research shows that taking glycerol alongside a sufficient amount of water is an effective way to achieve hyperhydration. By decreasing the kidney’s excretion rate, the water content in the body goes up.[1] Taking glycerol to promote hydration has been shown to significantly improve physical performance.

    Glycerol Research

Multiple randomized clinical trials have found that glycerol supplementation can enhance endurance, cardiovascular efficiency, thermoregulatory efficiency, and muscular pumps.[1-7]

More Pumps, Less Clumps. After too much clumping and grit from the competition, NNB Nutrition’s HydroPrime is ready for primetime. Contact to learn more.

A study from the Journal of Human Kinetics reported that subjects who consumed 1.2 grams of glycerol per kilogram of body weight, along with 26 milliliters of water per kilogram of body weight, experienced increased anaerobic and aerobic performance compared to a placebo.[1]

In a study from the Journal of Athletic Training, researchers administered to mountain bike riders 1 gram of glycerol per kilogram of bodyweight along with water equivalent to 2.8% of their body weight.[2] The subjects completed a 30-mile race in a hot environment.[2]

Yet again, the researchers found that glycerol helped maintain participants’ hydration levels. Their performance improved, and they experienced decreased thirst and thermal sensation and reduced perceived exertion.[2]

    Water-Based Pumps

Glycerol can also improve muscular pumps by drawing more water into the muscle, which is why the ingredient is commonly used in pump-products and pre-workouts like SuperHuman Pump. Nearly all other pump-inducing ingredients on the market improve performance by inducing nitric oxide synthesis, which increases blood flow, nutrients, and oxygen delivery to working muscles.

Glycerol works through a different mechanism of action. Pairing it with ingredients that increase blood flow has a synergistic effect that can result in bigger pumps. For example, SuperHuman Pump has 3 grams of HydroPrime and the clinically-studied dosage of citrulline, a potent nitric oxide booster that helps deliver more pumps.

    Potential downsides to glycerol

The available body of evidence makes it clear that glycerol is effective. But there are some issues users should be aware of.

As you can see from the studies cited above, the recommended dosages are fairly high (up to 1.2 gram per kilogram of body weight). To the best of our knowledge, there are no comprehensive pre-workouts or pump products that provide the clinically-substantiated dose. And there’s a good explanation for that. Glycerol dosage is based on a person’s body weight. So someone who’s 200 pounds can take a lot more than someone who’s only 120 pounds.

More pumps, less clumps, and better performance!

Therefore, it’s quite impractical to invest in a multi-ingredient supplement containing the maximum amount of glycerol. Especially since the ingredient is notorious for clumping. Sports nutrition brands can really only use about 3 to 5 grams of the ingredient per serving or risk losing their inventory to clumping.

In order to get closer to the clinically-studied dose and avoid the common pitfalls of glycerol, Alpha Lion created Gains Candy HydroPrime! HydroPrime is a 65%-plus glycerol-stabilized powder. It was developed by the masterminds at NNB Nutrition for the purpose of providing more pumps and fewer clumps.

HydroPrime powder is less likely than all of the other forms of glycerol on the market to clump, but putting the ingredient into a capsule is even better. It means you can easily add glycerol to any pre-workout or take it on it’s own without worrying about clumping. You can easily customize your glycerol dose based on personal preferences, goals, and body weight.

After Alpha Lion saw what HydroPrime could do for SuperHuman Pump, they knew it would be a great addition to their single-ingredient Gains Candy Series. PricePlow is excited that Alpha Lion is the first company to bring yet another innovative ingredient from NNB Nutrition to the supplement industry!
