Some people go to the gym to relieve stress, work up a sweat, and enhance their cardiovascular endurance. But others are on a mission to get an epic pump while lifting maximal amounts of weight and building maximal amounts of muscle!
The “pump”, is what the bros in your gym are referring to when the muscle swells from being filled with excessive amounts of blood. This occurs because as the muscle approaches exhaustion, the body is doing everything it can to meet the demand of the physical stressor placed upon it. More blood flow will be directed towards the working muscles to deliver a greater amount of oxygen, nutrients, and help shuttle away metabolites, such as lactic acid.
The scientific term for the pump is called “hyperemia” – it’s been shown to be an important factor for maximal hypertrophy.[1] Over the years, researchers have been able to identify three primary mechanisms that cause a muscle to grow bigger and stronger – metabolic stress, mechanical tension, and muscular damage. Metabolic stress is the primary mechanism responsible for getting a pump and it’s strongly correlated with stimulating several growth factors.[1]
Now that you know the importance and science behind the pump, what’s the best way to obtain it?
There are many things you can do to increase the likelihood of getting a massive pump, such as being hydrated, consuming enough electrolytes, eating a carb-dense meal pre workout, and lifting in a higher rep range with lighter loads. There’s also various supplements that can help increase blood flow and give you a bigger pump. If you’re looking to get the best results, look no further than NIOX from Nutrex Research to deliver!
NIOX: Extreme Pumps & Vascularity

Nutrex’s Pre Workout Packages
Nutrex Research is known for producing some pretty stimulant heavy pre workouts, such as OutLift Amped and Lipo-6 Black Training. Although they are very well formulated, sometimes you may want to tone the stimulants down a little, therefore having a stim-free option to stack with these intense pre workouts is a brilliant idea.
NIOX was reformulated to increase your pump and that’s it. NIOX is a simple concept, and that makes it very effective and versatile.
NIOX Ingredient Analysis
NIOX is not a new product from Nutrex, however it did get a massive upgrade with a completely revamped formula!
The original NIOX featured a combination of L-Arginine ethyl ester, glycerine, AgmaPure Agmatine Sulfate, and CarnoSyn Beta-Alanine. Although that’s a pretty solid mix of ingredients, newer ingredients have hit the market, which fit the purpose of this product better. After looking at the upgraded formula and seeing the reviews online, we would say Nutrex crushed this product!
Nutrex recommends taking one serving (4 capsules) of NIOX two times a day and on training days, take one serving an hour prior to hitting the gym. Unlike several other pre workout products on the market, it’s best to take NIOX daily for optimal results.
Now that you know a good amount of information about NIOX, let’s see what this thing is made of! Here’s what one serving of NIOX has to offer:
-
Glycerol Monostearate – 1g
The first ingredient included in NIOX is Glycerol Monostearate (GMS) and it’s here to make sure your muscle cells are hyperhydrated! You’ve likely seen glycerol in several pre workouts that come in powdered form, however there’s one main issue that almost always comes up – clumping.
If you’ve bought a pre workout that ends up clumping and turning in a hard rock, you can blame it all on glycerol. But how can you solve this issue – by putting it into a capsule instead! Beyond the dreaded clumping and grittness that comes from drinking glycerol powder, it’s a phenomenal pump and endurance booster, which is why we’re happy to see Nutrex including it in this product.
Glycerol is classified as a naturally occuring sugar alcohol, which has a similar structure as the sugar alcohols that are added to various foods,[2] however glycerol works much differently when ingested. Glycerol is known for its ability to attract water, meaning it can accumulate fluid into the cells, resulting in a state of hyperhydration.[2-6]
This is very advantageous for not only getting a pump, but also increasing performance. As we mentioned in the intro, being hydrated is one of the best things you can do to obtain a massive pump, thus taking glycerol along with a good amount of water can really amplify the effects. On the PricePlow blog, we like to call this the “water-based pump” since the cells are swollen with fluid!
Studies have shown that supplementing with glycerol along with a sufficient amount of water can keep you hydrated throughout the training session, resulting in decreased risk of heat exhaustion, significantly greater endurance capacity, and aerobic power![4-6]
Stearic acid: a saturated fat worth looking into
Glycerol monostearate is glycerol bound to stearic acid. Few talk about it, but we’ve become fans of this saturated fatty acid, as it is found in animal fats and seems to promote fullness. If you’re not eating meat or beef tallow or butter/ghee (or cocoa butter for plant-based sources), there’s a good chance you’re not getting much of this saturated fat.
It’s important to note that glycerol uses different mechanisms to induce a pump then any other pump ingredient, which means it will work synergistically and may result in more profound effects.

Green Tea Extract (leaf) (as VASO6) – 300mg
VASO6 comes from an industry leading ingredient developer, Compound Solutions. It features a blend of six different compounds derived from green tea leaves that work synergistically to vasodilate (expand) the blood vessels, which is what it’s named after! It’s obvious that Nutrex is a big fan of VASO6, as you can also find it in Alpha Pump.
VASO6 is one of the newer ingredients in the sports supplement industry, but it caught on fast since at the end of the last decade it’s been shown to be a potent nitric oxide booster.[7-9] Nitric oxide (NO) is produced by endothelial cells within the walls of your blood vessels and it essentially tells them to expand, allowing more blood flow, nutrients, and oxygen into the area.
Research has found that VASO6 supplementation significantly enhances blood flow, improves glucose uptake into muscle cells, and has a positive effect on muscle protein synthesis.[7,8] It carries out these effects by interacting with the enzyme that naturally produces NO, known as nitric oxide synthase.[8] VASO6 naturally increases nitric oxide levels by boosting nitric oxide synthase activity.
Furthermore, other studies have reported that VASO6 is capable of inducing relaxation of the vasculature by up to 15%.[9] This is attributed to it’s high content of epicatechin from the green tea leaves.[9]
300mg is a great dose for VASO6, so expect to get some massive pumps in no time!

Grape Seed Extract (Vitis Vinifera) – 50mg
Next up on our list of pump enhancing ingredients is grape seed extract (GSE), also known as vitis vinifera. GSE is produced by removing the seeds from grapes, drying, and crushing them into a powder. They are rich in antioxidants, such as flavonoids, anthocyanins, and phenolic acids that all provide various health benefits!
Studies show that GSE supplementation can improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, decrease oxidative damage, improve brain, kidney, and liver health, and may even support greater levels of bone density.[10-16]
Beyond the incredible health benefits that GSE has to offer, it’s ability to induce vasodilation of the blood vessels increases the ability for oxygen rich blood to get delivered to the working muscles.
We’ve already explained the importance of getting enough blood flow into the area to obtain a massive pump, but it’s also crucial for increasing the amount of reps you can do. Without oxygen, the muscles will quickly run out of gas. Overall, this should lead to more muscle growth in the long run.
The combination of glycerol, VASO6, and GSE is almost guaranteed to give you an insane pump and we still have one more ingredient to cover!

BioPerine [Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) Extract (fruit)] – 5mg
You could almost consider BioPerine from Sabinsa Corp a flagship ingredient in the Warrior Series, because every product we’ve covered thus far includes 5mg to round out the formula. BioPerine is the trademarked name for black pepper fruit extract that’s standardized to contain 95% of the bioactive constituent, piperine.[17]
Some research has shown that BioPerine is able to enhance thermogenesis by stimulating the release of catecholamine neurotransmitters, which is quite interesting on its own.[18] However, the main reason why BioPerine is making an appearance on several supplements’ ingredient lists is because of its ability to boost the bioavailability and absorption of a wide variety of nutrients.[17,18]
But what does that even mean?
Some ingredients, especially specific minerals, have a very difficult time getting absorbed by the small intestine for one reason or another. Fortunately, ingredient developers have discovered a way to solve this problem and one of them is by adding an efficacious dosage of BioPerine into the mixture.
Although more research is warranted, it’s theorized that piperine is able to alter key enzymes involved in metabolism and inhibit a protein that actively transports drugs out of a cell called P-glycoprotein.[18] P-glycoprotein is known for modulating intestinal absorption, therefore if piperine is able to inhibit it, then more nutrients will be able to enter into circulation.
Needless to say, BioPerine is very unique – it makes your supplements work that much better by reducing the percentage of ingredients that end up being excreted rather than utilized!
