Primalog Ingredients

Primalog touts one of the most robust ingredient lineups of any GDA on the market.   • Gymnema Sylvestre (1g)

    Primeval Labs Primalog Ingredients

    Primalog is packing some whopping doses of well-known ingredients, such as Gymnema Sylvestre, alongside some new faces in C3G.

    Gymnema Sylvestre is a popular sugar-shuttling herb found in numerous GDAs on the market. This potent botanical, also known as cowplant, has been extensively researched for its ability to improve insulin function[1], which maintains stable blood sugar levels and puts those carbs in your muscles….where they belong.

    Gymnema also has been shown in several other studies to lower plasma glucose, BMI, and even body weight.[2]

    Right off the bat we can tell that Primeval Labs isn’t fooling around, since we don’t normally see this much gymnema — especially in a multi-combination product. Good chance you can seriously up your carb game with this GDA!

  • Agmatine Sulfate (750mg)

    Predominantly known for its pump-boosting properties, agmatine is also an extremely effective glucose disposal agent. Agmatine stimulate imidazoline receptors which subsequently reduces blood sugar levels, and also increases beta-endorphins in the body.[3,4]

    For those of you not familiar with beta-endorphins (and frankly, not many people are), they aid glucose uptake into muscle tissue, even during periods of inactivity.[5,6] Another study indicates that beta-endorphin supports insulin secretion from the pancreas.[7]

    Basically, agmatine enhances the body’s insulin response, promoting better glucose delivery into your muscles supporting optimal body composition.

  • Bitter Melon 4:1 Extract (500mg)

    Used heavily in Asia, Africa, and even the Caribbean, bitter melon (Momordica Charantia) was a common remedy of ancient civilizations for all sorts of diseases including everything from respiratory problems to GI upset to even diabetes.

    Modern research has confirmed the bitter veggie as an effective antidiabetic supplement, due to three unique compound present inside it — charantin, vicine, and polypeptide-p, an insulin-like compound.[8] Studies note that charantin can reduce blood glucose levels, and some studies suggest it’s even more effective than tolbutamide (a common antidiabetic prescription).[9,10]

    Other bitter melon research notes it can reduce inflammation in adipose tissue[11], and reduce glycogen formation in the liver while also boosting glucose uptake and utilization.[12]

  • Banaba Leaf Powder (300mg)

    Banaba, a.k.a. Lagerstroemia, is another well-known and widely used GDA supplement. The plant is rich in corosolic acid, which has been shown to induce GLUT4 translocation, bringing about increased insulin activity.[13,14] GLUT4 is the main gene responsible for insulin-responsive glucose transport in the body, and studies have demonstrated that a defunct GLUT4 gene leads to insulin resistance in skeletal muscle and diabetes.[15]

    Corosolic acid also has been shown to inhibit PTP1B (Tyrosine-protein phosphatase non-receptor type 1), which can enhance insulin receptor B phosphorylation, leading researchers to view it as a possible treatment for diabetes and obesity. Moreover,corosolic acid aids glycolysis and reduces gluconeogenesis[16]. Some other research notes it can even improve weight loss via pancreatic lipase inhibition. FYI, pancreatic lipase is the enzyme responsible for fat absorption.[17]

    With banaba, you’ll get better insulin sensitivity and glucose shuttling, supporting better glucose utilization during your workouts.[18,19,20]

  • Berberine (300mg)

    Berberine has been documented to enhance glucose uptake into skeletal muscle via AMPK activation.[21,22] AMPK is an enzyme that impacts energy balance, and activation of AMPK can ramp up mitochondrial biogenesis in skeletal muscle cells, improve insulin sensitivity, and reduce fat storage.[23,24,25]

    Another cool fact about berberine is that it can stimulate glucose uptake in skeletal muscle cells even if the cells are insulin resistant.[26]

  • Cyanidin-3-Glucoside (250mg)

    Also featured in Primeval Labs stimulant-free fat burner Pyretic, Cyanidin-3-Glucoside (C3G) is a multi-faceted fat loss / glucose–disposal ingredient, and a big reason Primalog is different than any other GDA you’ve previously used.

    C3G is an anthocyanin found predominantly in the skins of dark-colored fruits, such as blueberries or blackberries. C3G has been shown to increase glucose uptake by significantly enhancing GLUT4 expression translocation.[27] Plus, C3G also upregulates PPARγ activity, giving the antioxidant some insulin-like actions.

    If you weren’t aware, PPARγ is the single most heavily researched gene for the treatment type 2 diabetes, due to the fact that it is the primary metabolic regulator of tissues and organs.[28] Research shows that increased PPARγ expression/activity boosts insulin sensitivity and glucose uptake, helping you avoid any nasty spikes in blood sugar.[29,30]

    One more thing about, C3G is that is can act as an alpha-amylase inhibitor.[31] Alpha-amylase is a salivary enzymes responsible for starch digestion[32], which means that C3G can help reduce the total number of carbs your pancreas has to deal with in the form of insulin production.

  • Na-R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (100mg)

    Na-R-ALA is a highly bioavailable form of Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), a fatty acid present in the body that’s been shown to reduce appetite, boost energy expenditure, and lower fasting blood sugar.[33,34,35] Na-R-ALA binds the fatty acid to a sodium salt making it more heat stable at higher temperatures than other forms of ALA.

    This is the good form of ALA, and it’s not cheap. Given how massively dosed this product is, we’re thinking two things: it won’t be the least expensive… but you can almost definitely get away with 3-4 capsules if you’re not huge or eating the most massive carbohydrate-based meal.

  • Alpha Lipoic Acid (100mg)

    Primalog contains another 100mg ALA to further promote enhanced glucose disposal and metabolic rate. While this may not be our favorite form of ALA, due to the lower bioavailability, the two should still make for better blood sugar regulation and hunger suppression.[36,37]

  • Chromium (300mcg)

    An essential trace mineral, chromium is an invaluable component of numerous physiological processes. None more important than insulin metabolism. Basically, without adequate chromium, insulin function suffers and so does the uptake and utilization of glucose as well as fats and amino acids, meaning your protein synthesis, and muscle building, is in serious trouble! Plus, research shows that type 2 diabetics have lower levels of chromium than non diabetics[38], further highlighting the importance of this important mineral.

    Primalog uses chromium nicotinate glycinate chelate as opposed to chromium picolinate. The form of chromium used in Primalog is bound to niacin, making it 18 time more bioactive than other forms of chromium.[40] On top of that, some other animal research notes it’s more effectively absorbed and retained than the more commonly used chromium picolinate![41]

Consume 1 serving (i.e. 7 capsules) at least with 50-60g carbs 15-20 minutes prior to training or your heaviest carb meal of the day.
