Performax Labs HyperMax

Performax Labs is kicking off a massive rebranding effort and their high energy and pump pre workout HyperMax is leading the way, now with a transparent label!

Performax Labs has been hinting for a little over a month that a massive rebranding effort was underway, and as part of the rebrand, several of their best-selling products would be getting “enhancements”.

Well, we’re here to kick off Performax’s rebrand and reveal the brand new version of the brand’s much-beloved pre workout, HyperMax (formerly known as “HyperMax XT”), and now that it’s here, we can definitely say that it’s for the better – especially if you want more energy and greater pumps!

With this rebrand, Performax Labs is going to be focusing on taking everything to the max, and this monster pre workout is a fantastic first example of that.

In short, this is an impressive formula and a worthy addition to the high-energy HyperMax line. Users are going to get more pumps than they’d expect for a high-stim pre workout, so this one could really turn some heads. It’s a very in-your-face supplement – if you need it to hit fast and hard, you need HyperMax!

HyperMax Ingredients (2017 Upgrade)

Performax has made the switch to a 100% fully open label, something we’re huge fans of here at PP. Big changes include replacing Beta-O (beta alanine orotate) with standard beta alanine, removing HydroMax completely, and upping the doses for L-Citrulline and Tyrosine.

Hang on boys and girls, this label is going to pack a wallop! In fact, it’s our top-rated DMHA-free / DMAA-free pre workout supplement!!

  • Extreme Pumps & Performance
    • L-Citrulline (6,000mg)

      Performax Labs HyperMax Ingrediets

Big changes to the new version of HyperMax include upping the Citrulline and Tyrosine doses as well as removing Beta-O and inserting beta alanine.

Getting increased vascularity and bigger pumps all boil down to one thing, increased nitric oxide (N.O.) production. Basically, More N.O. = MORE PUMPS! Lots of ingredients are said to boost levels of N.O. in the body, but few do it as well as L-Citrulline.

This non-essential amino acid has been proven to be more effective, and more bioavailable, than L-Arginine.[9,10] Increased NO levels mean more blood flow getting to your muscles, which aside from pumps, also supplies fresh nutrients to your working muscles and helping remove metabolic waste. This ultimately helps enhance endurance as well.

To get these effects, you want 3-4g of pure L-Citrulline, and HyperMax ramps up the intensity by giving you a full 6g worth of the NO-boosting compound. On its own this is enough to make your muscle explode, but we’ve still got one more pump enhancer to go!

The nitric oxide arms race continues, and Performax Labs is definitely flexing and maxing out on the competition!

    • Beta Alanine (3,000mg)

As we stated up top, Beta-O has been replaced by regular beta alanine, the premier endurance boosting supplement on the market. Beta alanine (just like Beta-O) increases muscle concentrations of carnosine, a powerful intracellular buffer that helps shuttle lactic acid away from skeletal muscles, thereby increasing your endurance,[2,3] and ultimately reducing fatigue and supporting muscle growth.[4,5]

Most studies claim 3.2g as the dose to get those effects, but this is so close, we see no reason why you wouldn’t have nearly the same studied benefits.

    • Agmatine (1,000mg)

      Agmatine Pathway

The Agmatine Pathway is complex, but that’s because it’s really more of a neurotransmitter / neuromodulator than just a “nitric oxide booster”

The other piece in HyperMax’s pump-enhancing duo comes in the form of a pump-extender, Agmatine Sulfate. This ingredient prolongs, or extends, arginine’s life in the body, by inhibiting the enzyme arginase, which is responsible for breaking down arginine.[13] When used alongside a N.O. booster like Citrulline, you’ll notice denser, longer lasting pumps as well as better endurance, improved circulation, and increased vasodilation.

Typically, companies use the standard dose of 500mg, which is decent and will help get some decent pumps, but to really see this ingredient shine, you’ll want 1,000mg, which is precisely what you get here!

Impressive next to 6g of straight citrulline.

    • L-Ornithine L-Aspartate (1,000mg)

Often seen as LOLA, L-Ornithine L-Aspartate is the stable salt of two natural non essential amino acids: L-Ornithine and L-Aspartic acid. Both of these amino acids play a key role in ammonia detoxification in the body.[6] Excess ammonia leads to premature fatigue, tissue damage, and in worst case scenarios, organ complications.[6]

During intense exercise, ammonia levels can build up in the muscle leading to decreased performance. However, supplementing with LOLA prior to exercise has been shown to improve sprint performance and increase endurance capacity.[7,8]

  • Extreme Focus & Mood

    • B-Phenylethylamine HCL (400mg)

PEA stimulates a strong, but brief release of catecholamines, that will vastly boost your mood and may help lipolysis.

Here’s an ingredient many know and love from Performax’s high-powered fat burner OxyMax XT. Straight Phenylethylamine (PEA) is one of the all-time feel-good ingredients. PEA causes a potent, albeit brief release of catecholamines (dopamine, adrenaline, and noradrenaline), which induce a slight state of euphoria.[16]

When we originally reviewed HyperMax (the previous version of this pre workout), we suspected that having two different forms of PEA was the reason why we were liking it so much. If that’s the case, then we’re in store for another good one, because take a look at what we have next:

    • Eria Jarensis (200mg)

Standardized for its N-methyl-phenethylamine, N-phenethyldimethylamine, and PEA alkaloids content, Eria Jarensis is one of the more talked about stimulants over the past year or so since it’s inclusion in pre workouts supplements. It was in the previous version of HyperMax XT as well, but not as much was used.

Basically, this is going to have the highest amount of Eria Jarensis you’ve encountered with a Performax Labs product, and will probably be the make-it-or-break-it ingredient in HyperMax, and we think it’s going to make it in a big way. Expect that same euphoric feeling you got from its predecessor, but even more!

For all the gory details on just how this PEA-based ingredient works, checkout our in depth write up: Eria Jarensis Extract / N-phenethyl dimethylamine: The Next Big Thing?

Performax Labs has always stayed true to their stance that they do not want DMAA or DMHA in their HyperMax pre workout series – but they are quite confident that N-phenethyl dimethylamine is a fully legal and legitimate energy-boosting ingredient.

      Why two forms of PEA?

You’ll notice that Hypermax includes BOTH PEA and Eria Jarensis (which is loaded with PEA alkaloids), so we reached out to the brand to see why both forms were included:

“We find B-PEA and Eria Jarensis are highly synergistic providing an immediate increase in focus and mood while providing a longer lasting effect through their synergism.” — Performax HQ

    • Hordenine HCl (50mg)

Hordenine is a plant extract found alongside synephrine in bitter orange that acts as a natural stimulant. Research is on the light side but may indicate that hordenine exhibits similar effects as that of noradrenaline.[17]

Hordenine acts as an MAO (Monoamine Oxidase) inhibitor.[18] This has the added bonus effect of helping keep PEA “active” longer in the body, helping to further that “feel good” sensation we described earlier. This is extremely important to have with the two PEA-based ingredients above, and shows Performax put some great thought into this formula.

  • Extreme Energy Blend

    • L-Tyrosine (1,000mg)

      Performax Labs HyperMax Hand

HyperMax in hand, it’s time to train!

Tyrosine supplements are frequently used for their ability to enhance focus during workouts. This non-essential amino acid increases the production of two crucial neurotransmitters in the body, noradrenaline and dopamine. Higher levels of these two neurotransmitters improve overall mood and focus, while also helping reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety.[14,15]

We’ve got plenty more info on Tyrosine, as well as why this is THE form to use in our mega-post: L-Tyrosine vs. N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine: A Tale of Two Tyrosines. Well done Performax – every ingredient is dosed at a point that you would feel all on its own!

    • Caffeine Anhydrous (325mg)

As was the case in the previous iteration of HyperMax XT, caffeine weighs in at a hefty 325mg per scoop in the new HyperMax. On its own, this would be plenty enough energy to get your engine revving during a workout, but when paired alongside the other stimulants you’re going to be in for one SERIOUS rush during your workouts.

Fair warning, stim sensitive users out there will probably want to start with ½ scoop just until you see how your body handles it.

    • Citrus Aurantium Extract (50mg)

Citrus aurantium, a.k.a. bitter orange, is a safe, and well-researched, substitute for the now banned ephedra.[19,20] You’ll also hear this called synephrine It’s also sometimes referred to as synephrine, and has a chemical structure similar to ephedra.

Citrus Aurantium stimulates the Beta-2 and Beta-3 receptors in your body,[21,22] which triggers the release of triglycerides (lipolysis) into the bloodstream. This enables you to “burn fat as fuel.” However, we’re not entirely sure what standardization they are using. It might be synephrine, but we can’t be sure.

    • Rauwolfia Vomitoria Extract (3mg)

      Performax Labs Rise Grind

Get ready to rise and grind with Performax Labs.

Often seen in fat burners like OxyMax XT, Rauwolfia vomitoria is a plant species in the genus Rauwolfia traditionally used in African medicine as a treatment for possible mental disorders due to its mood-enhancing abilities!

If that sounds more than a little off-putting, don’t worry as research shows that it aids in decreasing body weight.[23] Another study showed it decreased pain sensitivity and possibly treat certain mental diseases.[24]

We’re not sure how much of this ingredient are in there, but it’s usually a very small dose, since larger doses can get quite aggressive. We’ll be starting at a half scoop to assess everything given the high stimulant content anyway.

  • Absorption Enhancement

    • Black Pepper Extract (5mg)

Given the number of potent actives in the new HyperMax, you’re going to need a little assistance to ensure your body properly absorbs all of the key ingredients. Black pepper extract improves the bioavailability and absorption of ingredients by inhibiting their premature breakdown in the body. This means you get the most bang for your buck with each scoop of HyperMax and nothing goes to waste.

Once again, we have to hand it to Performax Labs – they put in some serious max doses of ingredients, and every single ingredient would be felt if you had taken it alone (minus the black pepper extract – and even that one you might feel for other reasons)!

This is an impressive formula with no wasted space whatsoever. We’re officially all in on this rebrand.

On the Formula

”For a long time Performax Labs has had a majority of products open label however we wanted to take it a step further and make sure every single product and formula was completely open label to truly display the quality of product to the consumer.” — Performax HQ
