Fall is nearly upon us, which means the temperature is dropping, the leaves are falling, and the pumpkins are getting their final gains in before the harvest. To celebrate autumn’s arrival, NutraBio is re-releasing a limited-edition flavor of Classic Whey — Pumpkin Pie! If you’re a NutraBio protein connoisseur, then you already know how good this one is every year. But as a limited supply, the flavor also sells out fast every year. So if you want to get that classic pumpkin pie flavor without any of the guilt, act fast!
This is a creamy protein shake that tastes like fresh-baked pumpkin pie, packed with 25 grams of protein and only 130 calories. That might sound like an impossible feat, but somehow, Team NutraBio (led by flavor scientist Mike Perez) pulls it off. If there are two things that NutraBio is known for, it’s creating insane protein flavors and the high-quality, lab-tested supplements without compromise.
NutraBio’s Limited Edition Flavor Launches Continues with Pumpkin Pie!
This year’s version brings a similar flavor system as last year’s, and NutraBio keeps the industry on their toes. The St. Patrick’s Day Irish Whiskey Cream Classic Whey was so good last year, it was brought back as well. We also saw two of last year’s Freedom Flavors enter the official lineups with Miss American Pie 100% Whey Protein Isolate and Confetti Cake Muscle Matrix.
Along with limited-edition flavors, NutraBio also has updated custom labels — Classic Whey Pumpkin Pie has a more powerful Halloween-inspired label than ever before. As one of our favorite flavor releases of all time, we love making this an annual tradition to kick off the end of the end of the year celebrations.

Whey Protein Isolate vs Whey Protein Concentrate
In case you’re not familiar with Classic Whey, let us explain why this protein powder is one of NutraBio’s best sellers. There are two primary types of whey protein powder on the market — whey protein isolate (WPI) and whey protein concentrate (WPC). Whey protein isolate is at least 90% protein by weight, which means only ~10% is a combination of fat and carbohydrates.
Whey protein isolate undergoes additional processing that WPC doesn’t, so although it contains more protein by weight, it also loses some of the other beneficial nutrients that whey protein has to offer, such as vitamins, minerals, and immunoglobulins, which support your immune system.
Whey protein concentrate on the other hand can be anywhere from 34% to 80% protein by weight, with the remaining being made up of carbohydrates and fats. However, WPC is less processed than WPI, thus it retains the beneficial nutrients that WPI is lacking. Furthermore, many consumers prefer the taste and texture that WPC offers, but it contains a bit of lactose, which not everyone can tolerate.
The extra gram or two of carbohydrates and fats adds an incredible amount of creaminess and texture to the powder. Whey protein isolates tend to be more watery and lack flavor, however, some may prefer that instead.
The Classic Whey Difference
Whey protein concentrates tend to get a bad rap in the supplement industry, and for a good reason. The majority of protein powders that list whey protein concentrate on the label don’t indicate what percentage they are using (e.g WPC80, WPC34).
Moreover, many companies are known for using low-quality WPC powders that may taste great but are loaded with fat, carbohydrates, and lactose. For example, if you buy a protein powder that uses WPC34, only 34% of the powder is protein and the rest is made up of carbohydrates, fats, and fillers. Companies will do this because it’s much cheaper than using a premium WPC80.
NutraBio, on the other hand, is one of the few brands that only use WPC80 and lists the exact amount on the label. If that’s not good enough, NutraBio also lists exact dosages for every ingredient in the protein powder, even the flavoring system!
NutraBio is known for being fully transparent and you can even see the third-party test results on Checkmysupps.com to see if what’s on the label is actually in the bottle! PricePlow isn’t against whey protein concentrate by any means, but we do recommend getting one that says WPC80 on the label to ensure quality.
Keep in mind that Classic Whey does contain a small amount of lactose. So if you’re lactose intolerant, steer clear and opt for 100% Whey Protein Isolate instead. Otherwise, Classic Whey will offer more flavor and creaminess, which is why NutraBio uses it for several dessert-themed flavors, such as Pumpkin Pie, Banana Cream pie, and Strawberry Shortcake.

Pumpkin Pie’s Back in Action
After a lot of focus on the Unbound launch this year, NutraBio is rip-roarin-ready to go again. With all of the product development going on, they still found time to create incredible flavors and bring back old favorites. And of course, don’t forget about the recently-updated NutraBio Grass-Fed Whey Isolate tubs, where the Ice Cream Cookie Dream flavor easily became our favorite naturally-sweetened “cookies & cream” variety.
When it comes to rich, creamy, and fully-disclosed protein powder, it’s tough to beat Classic Whey. There are just too many good flavors to try… but if you miss this Pumpkin Pie version, one of our other suggestions would be Banana Cream Pie Classic Whey, which may be the most underrated protein flavor ever – and the best banana we can remember.
The launch of Classic Whey Pumpkin Pie is just the revival of many more releases to come before the end of the year and we couldn’t be more excited.
