For 2020’s 4th of July, NutraBio launched their Freedom Flavors, which consisted of three new supplement flavors across two different protein powders.
The “Freedom Flavors” were supposed to be limited-edition releases… but two of them were so good that they had to be added to the permanent lineup!
The first of those two is Confetti Cake Muscle Matrix!
Confetti Cake is here to Stay!
Named “Freedom Fetti” during the 2020 holiday launch, this is the flavor that was our favorite of the three. It’s extremely sweet, had colorful sprinkles, and the texture of Muscle Matrix (which is a combination of micellar casein and whey protein isolate) worked perfectly with cake flavor.
We immediately said that this one needed to stick around – and we weren’t alone. NutraBio listened to the crew, and when Freedom Fetti sold out, they decided to bring it back as Confetti Cake!
This is not your average cake batter flavor, which are often just glorified over-sweetened vanillas. This is true to the name, with sweetness and buttery flavor.

There isn’t much more to say about the flavor system – it’s sweet, it’s buttery, the sprinkles are a great addition, and it goes excellently with the texture of Muscle Matrix. So let’s talk about why this protein powder is a bit different:
Confetti Cake Muscle Matrix Nutrition Facts
While flavors are important, nothing is more important than quality to NutraBio. As one of the only companies to publish all third party tests, they back up their statements in each and every lot.
The label is fully disclosed, down to the amount of sweetener used… but first, the nutrition facts:

Muscle Matrix Ingredients
The fully-disclosed blend of two protein sources in Muscle Matrix are what make it unique.
-
Whey Protein Isolate – 16.31g (Yielding 14.19g of Complete Protein)
Whey protein isolate (WPI) is a high-quality, milk-derived protein source that makes up 55% of this protein blend. WPI, also known as WPI-90, is a minimum 90% protein by weight. This means it’s low in lactose, fat, and carbs – especially sugars. WPI is fast-digesting and is an excellent source of all nine essential amino acids, especially the anabolic BCAA (branched chain amino acid) leucine.
Whey protein helps spike muscle protein synthesis (MPS) to boost your protein intake for the day and help with better growth and recovery.
This is the fast part of the supplement. However, next comes the slower-digesting part, which is great for bed or in-between-meal snacks.
-
Micellar Casein – 13.35g (Yielding 10.81g of Complete Protein)
Micellar Casein is another high-quality milk-derived protein source, and makes up 45% of Muscle Matrix’s protein. It provides a great amount of BCAAs / EAAs (essential amino acids, required in the diet since you can’t synthesize them yourself) and is also relatively low in sugar, fat, and carbs. However, it digests far more slowly, as it forms a “gel” in the gut. When casein enters your digestive system, the protein coagulates together, and it takes your body longer to break this down. This gives it a longer “trickle” of amino acids, and is quite anti-catabolic if taken when there’s a long break in eating.
The “magic” is in the combination. Casein is the slow end, whey protein isolate is the fast end.
Further, casein protein provides a touch of a “grittier” texture than whey, which is perfect for the Confetti Cake flavor since the texture is as if you just chewed cake and sugary frosting!

NutraBio keeps a phenomenal flavor around
We asked, and NutraBio answered. “Freedom Fetti” was simply too good to let go, and making it a permanent member of the lineup with a new name was the way to go. Thankfully, their label throws it back with a callout of the old label and name, as you can see in the images displayed on this site.
This isn’t the first time a “limited edition” flavor has been so good that NutraBio had to keep it. Another recent memory was with the Bourbon Banana Nut 100% Whey Protein Isolate, which was inspired by one of their end-of-year Christmas parties and tasted so good that everyone demanded it stay. Point is, NutraBio listens to feedback, so don’t feel afraid to send it!
We love seeing a company that’s been around for over 20 years continue doing fun things, especially when they’re doing the right things. You can read more about that in our article on The NutraBio Story – they’re well-respected thanks to the quality, transparency, and honesty.
As mentioned in the intro, this is the first of two keepers from the Freedom Fetti launch. The other? Miss American Pie 100% Whey Protein Isolate, with real apple bits and all. So stay tuned to PricePlow’s NutraBio News and never miss a beat!
