Apollon Nutrition THRILLER Hydration: A Creatine and Caffeine-Boosted Formula Upgrade

Apollon Nutrition's hydration lineup just got a considerably more theatrical addition. Apollon Nutrition Thriller Hydration, officially listed on the brand's site as Hydration Thriller and stamped across the tub simply as THRILLER, is a limited-edition release that trades Apollon's usual packaging for a rhinestone glove, a fedora tucked behind the logo, a vintage stage microphone, and a holographic, spotlight-heavy design.

Apollon Nutrition THRILLER Hydration: A Creatine and Caffeine-Boosted Formula Upgrade

Apollon Nutrition turned its Hydration powder into an all day performance scoop. Thriller Hydration carries a full daily creatine dose and enough caffeine for training or a long afternoon, without pushing into pre workout stim territory.

Every element points toward Michael Jackson's Thriller era, though we're pretty sure this isn't any kind of formal collab... perhaps a tribute. So it's fair to call this a Thriller-inspired homage, and it's a unique hydration supplement for sure.

THRILLER Hydration: Hydration with Energy and Creatine

The bigger story is what changed inside this tub. Thriller Hydration builds on Apollon's existing Hydration powder, then adds a full 5,000mg of creatine monohydrate and 150mg of natural caffeine, raises taurine and most of the electrolytes, and wraps it all in two new flavors: Watermelon Punch and Iced Tea Lemonade. It's a limited run for now, which fits Apollon's style of using special releases to test formula changes before deciding whether they stick around for good.

It all traces back to how founder Robert Samborsky built the brand in the first place. He's run Apollon Gym in Edison, New Jersey for years, and he brought that same fully-disclosed, clinical-dosing approach to Apollon Nutrition, something he got into in detail on the PricePlow Podcast linked above.

Thriller Hydration keeps that same philosophy even with the new (and extremely unique) packaging: real doses of creatine, taurine, and electrolytes instead of a proprietary blend hiding behind Thriller-sized font. Let's get into this formula below:

Apollon Nutrition Thriller Hydration Ingredients

Each 15g scoop of Apollon Nutrition Thriller Hydration provides the following:

Apollon Nutrition Thriller Hydration Ingredients

  • Creatine Monohydrate (Micronized) - 5,000mg

Creatine monohydrate is the headline addition to this formula, dosed at a full 5,000mg per scoop, the same daily amount used in most maintenance-phase creatine research. Creatine works by helping regenerate ATP, the molecule your muscles burn for quick energy, which is part of why it's one of the most studied ingredients in sports nutrition.

A 2021 review from the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) addressed the most common questions and misconceptions surrounding creatine and confirmed that daily intakes in the 3,000mg to 5,000mg range are well tolerated across a research base of more than 500 peer-reviewed studies.[1]

Beyond the muscle and strength benefits creatine is best known for, newer research has started looking at effects on the brain. A 2024 trial found that a single dose of creatine improved cognitive performance and shifted markers of brain energy availability in sleep-deprived subjects, which lines up with the label's own "Laser-Sharp Cognitive Focus" claim.[2] That study used sleep-deprived participants and a single dose, so it's not a guarantee of daily cognitive benefits from Thriller Hydration, but it's a reasonable mechanism behind pairing creatine with an all-day energy and focus formula.

This also isn't Apollon's first formula built around a full 5,000mg creatine dose. The brand's Cyclone pre-workout and CreaSmash creatine matrix both use the same 5,000mg benchmark, so if you're already running one of those, there's no need to double up with Thriller Hydration.

  • Taurine - 3,000mg

Apollon raised taurine from 2,000mg in the standard Hydration formula to a full 3,000mg here, now dosed above the 1-2g range typically found in energy drinks and pre-workouts.

Taurine is an amino acid involved in cellular hydration, electrolyte balance, and muscle function, all of which fit Thriller Hydration's positioning. Since this formula also delivers 150mg of caffeine, it's worth noting a 2025 network meta-analysis that studied caffeine and taurine together and found combining the two produced small improvements in physical capacity and cognitive function beyond what caffeine delivered alone.[3] A separate 2025 meta-analysis focused on a single acute taurine dose found small-to-moderate improvements in exercise performance, though the researchers noted the effect varies with dose and exercise type.[4]

  • Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) - 1,000mg

Apollon Nutrition Thriller Iced Tea Lemonade

FOS is a prebiotic fiber, meaning it feeds bacteria already living in your gut rather than getting digested itself. Apollon carried the same 1,000mg dose over from the standard Hydration formula, which lines up with the label's 1g dietary fiber (and possibly the 2 calories).

A 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis found that FOS supplementation can shift gut microbiota composition in a favorable direction, though the same review noted that at (thankfully) much higher doses, FOS's high fermentability can cause bloating or gas in some people.[5] FOS also has a supporting role worth calling out in a mineral-heavy formula like this one: a systematic review on FOS and mineral absorption found the fiber can help improve the body's uptake of minerals and trace elements, which pairs naturally with Thriller Hydration's sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium content.[6] So that's the real reason why it's here -- mineral absorption.

  • Coconut Water Powder - 1,000mg

Coconut water has a long-standing reputation as a natural hydration source, and there's more research behind it than you might expect. It's usually included as a way to get some naturally-sourced potassium in (there's more potassium discussed below as well).

A study in trained cyclists found coconut water performed comparably to a standard carbohydrate-electrolyte sports drink for post-exercise rehydration and performance.[7] A separate crossover trial using sodium-enriched coconut water after exercise-induced dehydration found it restored plasma volume as effectively as a commercial sports drink.[8]

Of course, both of those studies used fresh coconut water by the glass, not a 1,000mg powder. At this dose, coconut water powder is a complementary, whole-food-sourced addition to Thriller Hydration's electrolyte profile, not the primary hydration driver, a role better filled by the formula's more heavily dosed sodium and potassium.

  • Aquamin® Marine Mineral Complex - 1,000mg

Aquamin® is a mineral complex derived from a red marine algae species, and it's the source behind both the calcium and magnesium declared elsewhere on Thriller Hydration's label. Unlike standard calcium carbonate or magnesium oxide, Aquamin® naturally carries dozens of trace minerals in the same matrix, which is the main appeal brands cite for choosing it over an isolated mineral salt. Especially since calcium carbonate has a ton of very nasty research for cardiovascular effects, so it's smart to avoid at these doses.

    Apollon Nutrition Thriller

Most of Aquamin's published clinical research in recent years centers on gut and inflammatory health rather than exercise or hydration, so there isn't a study testing this specific application to point to. What's well established is that calcium and magnesium themselves support normal muscle contraction, nerve signaling, and fluid balance, the same functions the rest of Thriller Hydration's electrolyte profile is built around.

  • Natural Caffeine - 150mg

At 150mg per scoop, Thriller Hydration's natural caffeine dose sits well below the 300mg-plus found in many high-stim pre-workouts, matching Apollon's stated goal of smooth, sustained energy instead of a hard redline.

The ISSN's position stand on caffeine and exercise performance concluded that caffeine reliably improves muscular endurance, movement velocity, and overall exercise performance across a range of doses, typically starting around 3mg per kilogram of bodyweight, a threshold this serving clears for most adults.[9] A separate systematic review and meta-analysis focused specifically on strength and power found consistent, if modest, benefits from caffeine intake before training.[10]

Caffeine sensitivity also varies quite a bit from person to person based on genetics and habitual intake, which helps explain why Apollon chose a moderate, use-anytime dose here instead of pushing Thriller Hydration into stimulant-pre-workout territory.[11]

  • Senactiv® (Panax Notoginseng (Root) and Rosa Canina (Fruit) Extracts) - 100mg

NuLiv Science's Senactiv® combines extracts of Panax notoginseng and Rosa canina (rose hip), standardized to deliver the ginsenoside Rg1 alongside polyphenols from the rose hip fruit. The most relevant human research comes from a study in exercising adults that found Rg1 supplementation helped restore satellite cells, the muscle stem cells temporarily depleted after intense training, with the researchers describing Rg1 as an ergogenic component of ginseng shown to enhance aerobic performance.[12]

    Apollon Nutrition Thriller Watermelon Punch

A more recent randomized, placebo-controlled crossover trial in older women found Rg1 supplementation increased muscle stem cell activity after resistance training, though that trial used an isolated 10mg Rg1 dose in a different, older population than Thriller Hydration's target user.[13] Together, this research points toward a role supporting muscle recovery after training rather than an acute energy or focus effect.

  • AstraGin® (Panax Notoginseng (Root) and Astragalus Membranaceus (Root)) - 50mg

Also from NuLiv Science, AstraGin® combines Panax notoginseng and Astragalus membranaceus root extracts, included here to support absorption of the formula's other ingredients rather than to deliver a standalone effect of its own. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study in healthy adults across three age groups found that the same Astragalus and Panax notoginseng saponin extract improved whey protein absorption and measures of intestinal permeability.[14]

A separate human trial found the same extract combination increased arginine absorption and nitric oxide production compared to arginine alone.[15] Neither trial tested Thriller Hydration's specific formula, but both point to the same absorption-focused mechanism Apollon is using AstraGin® for here.

  • The Minerals

Sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium are the four electrolytes measurably lost through sweat during training, which is why a hydration-first formula like this one treats them as active ingredients rather than an afterthought on the label.

    • Sodium (as Sodium Citrate and Himalayan Pink Salt) - 490mg (21% DV)

Sodium is the electrolyte your body loses fastest through sweat, and it's the main reason Thriller Hydration exists as a hydration product in the first place.

A study measuring sweat rates and sodium losses across three positional groups of professional football players found great variation in how much sodium athletes lose during a single practice, with some players losing well over a gram of sodium per hour of training.[16] That matters because replacing fluid without replacing sodium can lead to hyponatremia, a drop in blood sodium that gets worse, not better, the more plain water someone drinks during long or hot training sessions.[17] At 490mg, or 21% of the daily value, this dose is substantial relative to general population sodium-reduction guidelines, so it's built with heavy sweaters and long training sessions in mind rather than as a baseline addition on top of a typical diet.

    • Potassium (as Potassium Citrate) - 250mg (5% DV)

Apollon Nutrition From Dusk Till Dawn: Monstrous Deep Sleep and Recovery Formula

Train like a hooligan, sleep like a baby. Apollon Nutrition From Dusk Till Dawn delivers 14 fully disclosed ingredients including 3g glycine, 3g GABA, 600mg ashwagandha, and a dual-release melatonin system.

Potassium works alongside sodium as one of the electrolytes lost through sweat during exercise. A study measuring sweat mineral concentrations across seven hours of exercise-heat stress found that sweat potassium losses stayed fairly consistent from the first hour through the seventh, meaning long or hot training sessions keep drawing down potassium the whole way through rather than just early on.[18]

Inside the body, potassium plays a central role in muscle contraction and nerve signaling by helping maintain the electrical gradient across cell membranes, the same basic mechanism sodium relies on from the opposite side of the cell. At 250mg, sourced from potassium citrate, this dose sits well below potassium's 4,700mg daily value, so it's best viewed as a complement to dietary potassium intake rather than a replacement for it. We'll take potassium wherever we can get it, and note that the coconut water provides a touch too.

    • Calcium (from Aquamin® Marine Mineral Complex) - 320mg (25% DV)

We already discussed Aquamin above, but here's what it provides on the mineral level:

Calcium plays a well-established role in muscle contraction, where it triggers the interaction between the muscle proteins actin and myosin that lets a muscle fiber shorten. It's also one of the minerals athletes lose through sweat during exercise. Research in sportswomen found that a single hour of strenuous exercise measurably increased 24-hour dermal calcium losses, with calcium supplementation helping offset some of that loss.[19] A separate trial in competitive male cyclists found that a chewable calcium supplement taken 30 minutes before a long ride blunted the exercise-induced rise in parathyroid hormone that normally follows a drop in blood calcium during endurance training, a response tied to increased bone resorption over time.[20]

This calcium comes entirely from the Aquamin® Marine Mineral Complex covered elsewhere in this formula, not a separate calcium source, so don't add the two amounts together.

    • Magnesium (from Aquamin® Marine Mineral Complex) - 25mg (6% DV)

Magnesium is involved in muscle contraction and relaxation, nerve signaling, and energy production. A systematic review of magnesium supplementation across different types of physical activity found the mineral plays a role in delayed-onset muscle soreness after training and noted that physically active people need to pay particular attention to their magnesium status.[21] It's also one of the electrolytes measurably lost in sweat during prolonged exercise in the heat, alongside sodium, potassium, and calcium.[18]

Robert Samborsky of Apollon Nutrition and Apollon Gym discusses Hooligan V8 and the 2026 product roadmap on Episode #211 of the PricePlow Podcast

Robert "Robik" Samborsky, founder of Apollon Nutrition and owner of the legendary Apollon Gym in Edison, NJ, shares his full origin story from Soviet-era Ukraine through Muay Thai title fights in Thailand to building one of the most trusted hardcore supplement brands in the industry on Episode #211 of the PricePlow Podcast.

Most of the research showing a soreness or performance benefit from magnesium used daily doses in the hundreds of milligrams, well above what fits inside a single hydration scoop. At just 25mg, or 6% of the daily value, this dose is sourced entirely from Aquamin® rather than a dedicated magnesium ingredient, so it's best treated as a minor contribution toward daily magnesium intake rather than a primary source.

Thriller definitely leans more on the "excitatory" minerals than the calming magnesium, which pairs well with the addition of caffeine, too.

Flavors Available

Thriller Hydration launches in two flavors built for the theme: Watermelon Punch and Iced Tea Lemonade. Both use natural flavors and are sweetened with steviol glycosides (Reb M) instead of sugar or artificial sweeteners, which keeps the formula at just 2 calories per scoop.

Here's an up-to-date list of all flavors of Apollon Nutrition Thriller Hydration:

    What's New, What's Changed

Apollon built Thriller Hydration on top of its existing Hydration powder, and the differences go well beyond the new flavors and glam-rock packaging.

Per 1-scoop serving Standard Hydration Thriller Hydration Change
    Scoop size 10g 15g +5g
    Calories 10 2 -8
    Total carbohydrate 3g 1g -2g
    Sodium 480mg 490mg +10mg
    Potassium 100mg 250mg +150mg
    Calcium 110mg 320mg +210mg
    Magnesium 120mg 25mg -95mg
    Creatine monohydrate -- 5,000mg Added
    Taurine 2,000mg 3,000mg +1,000mg
    Natural caffeine -- 150mg Added
    FOS 1,000mg 1,000mg Unchanged
Coconut water powder 1,000mg 1,000mg Unchanged
    Aquamin® 1,000mg 1,000mg Unchanged
    Senactiv® 100mg 100mg Unchanged
    AstraGin® 50mg 50mg Unchanged

The two headline additions are the full 5,000mg of creatine monohydrate and 150mg of natural caffeine, neither of which appeared in the standard formula. Taurine, sodium, potassium, and calcium all increased as well. Magnesium is the one exception, dropping from 120mg to 25mg. FOS, coconut water powder, Aquamin®, Senactiv®, and AstraGin® all carried over at their original doses.

    Stacks Well With

    • Apollon Nutrition Collagen: Thriller Hydration covers hydration, electrolytes, and daily creatine. Collagen adds connective-tissue support that a hydration formula doesn't touch, making the two a natural pairing for anyone training regularly.
    • Apollon Nutrition From Dusk Till Dawn: If Thriller Hydration is covering your daytime energy and hydration, From Dusk Till Dawn picks up the evening side with a sleep and recovery formula built for the hours after training ends.

    Who It's For

Apollon Nutrition THRILLER Hydration: A Creatine and Caffeine-Boosted Formula Upgrade

    • Creatine users who don't want a separate tub: Thriller Hydration's 5,000mg dose covers a full daily creatine serving on its own, so anyone already taking a plain creatine product can consolidate into one scoop.
    • Trainees who want energy without a high-stim redline: At 150mg of caffeine, Thriller Hydration fits training, work, or travel days where a 300mg-plus pre-workout would be overkill.

Conclusion: A Limited Edition Apollon Hydration Upgrade

Thriller Hydration takes Apollon Nutrition's existing hydration formula and turns it into something closer to an all-in-one daily performance product. The full 5,000mg creatine dose and 150mg of natural caffeine are the real story, backed by increases to taurine, sodium, potassium, and calcium along the way.

The Michael Jackson-inspired packaging and limited-edition framing, spread across Watermelon Punch and Iced Tea Lemonade, give this release its own identity, and it seems to be a fun limited edition launch you should jump on, and when you finish, keep the tub in your collectibles.

Whether Thriller Hydration's formula sticks around as a permanent addition to Apollon's lineup or fades out with the limited run, it could be a preview of where the brand's hydration category could be headed next. Robert Samborsky built Apollon Nutrition around fully disclosed labels and real doses, and this formula keeps that approach intact even as the packaging goes in a completely different direction.
