  • Fat Burning Extras

    As you can see from the list: both products contain L-Carnitine L-Tartrate, Green Tea Extract, and Evodiamine, which are all ingredients that were added to improve fat oxidation. But Impact Diet Whey also has CLA, and that’s another ingredient that is a healthy fatty acid that may further help you lose some fat if you’re deficient.   • Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes

    We already noted in the macronutrient section, that Vegan Diet Blend has a generous dose of fiber, and from the label you can tell that’s coming from inulin. Furthermore, both contain Ganeden BC30® Probiotic (Bacillus Coagulans) to help keep your gut running smoothly.

    DigeZyme is a Multi Enzyme Complex formulated by a leading ingredient supplier in the industry, Sabinsa Corp.

    They also both contain digestive enzymes, however, and Vegan Diet Blend has a more complete profile with the addition of DigeZyme®. It’s a blend of α-amylase, protease, lipase, cellulase, and lactase, which all help breakdown various nutrients, such as starch, protein, fats, cellulose, and lactose, respectively. This makes sense, considering it’s a plant based protein powder with more carbs than the dairy alternative.

    Impact Diet Whey only contains papain and bromelain as its digestive enzymes. But it is a whey protein isolate, meaning it’s at minimum 90% pure protein, which is why there’s very little carbs, fats, sugars, or lactose. Therefore, you really shouldn’t have an issue with digesting Impact Diet Whey.

  • Other Ingredients

    In order to make these proteins taste like a chocolate or vanilla milkshake we all love, they must add in a few ingredients like sweeteners, thickening agents, and flavors to make that happen.

    Vegan Diet Blend is naturally flavored and sweetened with stevia leaf extract, but it also contains xanthan gum and guar gum to improve the consistency and add thickness. Because no one likes a gritty plant protein shake! Impact Diet Whey is naturally and artificially flavored and sweetened with a combination of sucralose and ace-k. But it does not contain any thickening agents.

    From an ingredient perspective you can see how these two products vary slightly, but now we’re going to explain why Myprotein added in L-Carnitine L-Tartrate, Green Tea Extract, Evodiamine, and CLA to this protein diet series. It’s important to note that they don’t list the specific dosages on the nutrition facts label, but if you go to Myprotein’s website, some are included in the “Why Choose” section on the product’s main page. So don’t think we just made up these numbers!

  • L-Carnitine L-Tartrate – 150mg

    Myprotein Impact Diet Whey was formulated with high quality protein powder and a few extras to put your body in the most optimal state to burn fat!

    Carnitine is a very popular addition to fat burners and thermogenics, because of the role it plays in enabling fatty acid oxidation. On a physiological level, once fatty acids are released from adipose tissue, they are transported into cells by specific proteins to get used for energy production.

    But once the fatty acids get into the cell, they must be able to enter the mitochondria to undergo beta-oxidation. This is where carnitine steps in to save the day, because it shuttles the fatty acids into the mitochondria to be ‘burned’.[6] Without carnitine there, the fatty acids would just be stuck and unusable, which is far from ideal. With fat loss supplements, the main goal is to optimize your body’s ability to burn fat, and carnitine is a prime ingredient for that!

    Although, there are various forms of carnitine on the market, some research shows L-Carnitine L-Tartrate may have slightly better absorption and be able to express its effects quicker.[7] In addition to carnitine’s fat burning potential — it’s also been shown to have other benefits such as enhancing insulin sensitivity, lowering blood glucose, and reducing muscle damage from resistance training.[8-9]

    This ingredient is most important for those who are deficient, namely vegans and vegetarians. In those cases, we’d argue that you want even more – up to 2g per day supplementally!

  • Green Tea Extract – 50mg

    Myprotein Diet Protein SeriesGreen Tea Extract’s benefits go far beyond fat loss, as it’s traditionally been used to treat several medical conditions. Research shows that it expresses anti-inflammatory, antiarthritic, antibacterial, antiangiogenic, antioxidative, antiviral, neuroprotective, and cholesterol-lowering effects.[10]

    Green tea contains several essential vitamins, minerals, and has a small amount of caffeine that may give you a bump in energy. Having more energy can of course help you lose fat, but the main component of green tea that provides the most fat burning benefits are its polyphenol and catechin content.

    Although green tea consists of several catechins, research shows epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is the main bioactive constituent.[10-11] Studies show EGCG is able to enhance fat oxidation, metabolic rate, and thermogenesis.[11] All three of these effects help your body burn more calories during exercise and at rest, which get you the results you’re looking for musch faster!

  • Evodiamine (dosage unknown)

    Evodiamine is the main alkaloid of a fruit known as Evodia rutaecarpa, which seems to express similar effects as capsaicin, a common ingredient used for weight loss.[12] In chinese medicine evodia fruits are also referred to as a “hot nature” herb, however unlike capsaicin it does not have any spicy or peppery taste.[12]

    Research shows evodiamine is able to help prevent fat accumulation through acting as a vanilloid receptor agonist. As a result, there’s an increase in lipolysis via the activation of brown adipose tissue and enhanced heat dissipation.[12] This helps you burn even more fat, but by a different pathway than the other two ingredients we discussed.

  • CLA – 100mg (in Impact Diet Whey only)

    The final ingredient we’re going to discuss is CLA, which stands from conjugated linoleic acid. Chances are if you’ve looked at weight loss products, CLA is bound to show up because it’s extremely popular in that category.

    CLA is a polyunsaturated fatty acid that can be found in meat and dairy products. There have been multiple research studies showing it has positive effects on fat loss and body composition.[13-16]

    Studies show that CLA promotes fat loss through increased energy expenditure and fatty acid oxidation.[15-16] It works by acting as an antagonist of lipoprotein lipase (LPL). LPL is an enzyme responsible for fat storage, because it helps fat cells uptake fatty acids from the bloodstream.[16] Therefore down regulation of LPL allows more fatty acid to stay in circulation to be burned for energy.

    But as we mentioned in the key difference between the two products, CLA is only included in Impact Diet Whey.
