    Fighting the “bosses” at the end of video games can be a rather arduous task for even the most skilled gamers out there. Even though it’s “only a game”, repeatedly losing to one of these supreme beings can stress even the most casual gamer out.

    For this specific reason, MOD starts off it’s potent blend with one of the most powerful adaptogens in Bacopa Monnieri. Adaptogens are a special type of herb that reduce stress and regulate hormone levels in the body, and in doing so often result in elevated in mood and increased energy.[1]

    More specifically, Bacopa acts upon the dopamine and serotonergic neurotransmitter systems, and enhances neuron communication.[2,3] Clinical trials using the herb also note improved cognition and attention speed, two critical traits of successful gaming.[4] Last but not least, as with all adaptogens, bacopa also helps keep cortisol levels under wraps thereby mitigating your stress.

    The first of two choline variants in MOD, VitaCholine™ is a trademarked form of choline bitartrate manufactured by Balchem.[5] Choline supplements are frequently used to heighten focus and cognition, since it forms the backbone of the “learning transmitter” acetylcholine.[6] It also helps develop a strong “mind-muscle” connection when exercising, or in this case mind-”thumb” connection for gamers!

    During intense exercise or other stressful situations (such as in game combat), choline levels can get rapidly depleted, leading to reduced performance.[7,8] Adding a dash of supplemental choline helps fortify choline reserves, enabling you to maintain high levels of concentration throughout your endless gaming sessions.

  • L-Theanine (200mg)

    A few studies suggest it may enhance mental function in younger people[13], but it’s been most beneficial for elderly people suffering from Alzheimer’s, as it provides a modicum of relief.[14,15,16]

  • Rhodiola Rosea (100mg)

    Rhodiola is another popular adaptogen that helps the body deal with all sorts of psychological, emotional, and physical stressors. Adaptogens like rhodiola (and bacopa) improve endurance and alertness while simultaneously reducing mental fatigue from stressful situations[17], something that could be very useful during your long hours of gaming.

    Other research into this ancient herb shows it may even improve cognitive functioning and memory due to its interactions with the acetylcholine, dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin neurotransmitter systems.[18]

    This is the supplement you want to get yourself situated and “regulated” after you’ve spent one too many all-nighters playing.

  • Alpha GPC (100mg)

    Our second form of choline!

    Alpha GPC is a precursor to acetylcholine found in the brain that’s linked to healthy cognitive function. Similar to Choline Bitartrate, but way more bioavailable, Alpha GPC is a choline-containing compound that enhances production of acetylcholine, a.k.a. the “learning neurotransmitter.”[19] Other studies demonstrate notable improvements in mood, focus, “mind muscle connection”, and even power, endurance, and post-workout Growth Hormone (GH) output![20,21] Simply put, the stuff is damned awesome.

    You may also see this spelled as alpha-glycerylphosphorylcholine out there, but everyone calls it Alpha GPC for short.

  • Phosphatidylserine (100mg)

    Phosphatidylserine (PS) is a fat-soluble amino acid mostly located in the brain that supports cognitive functioning. Various research trials have demonstrated supplementing with the helps treat signs of declining mental function and depression in the elderly.[22,23]

    A few other studies give evidence of its use as an effective anti-anxiety agent that may decrease stress[24] and possibly lower cortisol levels at high enough doses.[25]

    We’re not quite done yet with the benefits of PS, though as it has been found to increase post-exercise testosterone levels[26] and enhances mTOR-activity similar to that of phosphatidic acid (PA).[27,28]

  • Caffeine Anhydrous (100mg)

    Here’s the primary energy workhorse in MOD, good old caffeine. It really requires little explanation as it’s been extensively studied and used in supplements for quite a while. First and foremost, caffeine acts as a potent CNS stimulant that increases energy and alertness.[29]

    There’s plenty more to caffeine’s goodness though; it reduces fatigue, boosts short-term memory, and enhances problem solving ability.[30,31] It’s hard to make a case against incorporating it into any supplement, focus enhancer or otherwise, but including in in MOD should really help support and bolster the other nootropics that are present.

    What’s interesting is that MOD went with a 2:1 L-Theanine:Caffeine ratio – normally we see 1:2 or 1:1. If this were marketed as a straight up “hardcore energy” pill, we’d disagree with the ratio, as it would possibly be too smooth. But that is exactly what gamers are in the market for – ain’t got no time for a high-dose caffeine crash!!!

  • TeaCrine® (65mg)

    Theacrine

    Want longer-lasting energy? Here it is. Effect Size of 200mg dose of Teacrine over course of 7-day repeated dose study relative to baseline on: Energy: 0.63, Motivation to Exercise: 0.58, Concentration: 0.6.     Last but not least, we have caffeine’s long-lasting counterpart, theacrine. TeaCrine® is the trademarked version of theacrine that contains a 98% concentrated dose of theacrine. Theacrine is remarkably similar to caffeine and possesses many of the same benefits. The difference being that theacrine doesn’t come with a tolerance build up like caffeine.[32]

    This means that higher and higher doses aren’t needed to keep feeling the same effects. Additionally, theacrine reduces oxidative stress in the body when used for at least seven consecutive days[33] and increases dopamine levels in the brain, similar to caffeine.[34]

Dosing

Consume 2 capsules prior to commencing your gaming quest (or weight lifting session). Do not exceed 6 capsules in any 24-hour period.

Takeaway

Whether you want to admit it or not, video games have made their way back into the arena of “cool kids” after a long hiatus in the “geekdom”. The advent of televised competitions and worldwide gaming platforms has upped gamers’ status and thus their need to be that much better than the competition.

Just like athletes and bodybuilders look for that extra edge that pre workouts and intra workouts offer, these e-sports “jocks” are looking for something to push them past their normal gaming limits into true e-Champions.
