  • L-Citrulline – 6000 mg

    When it comes to pre-workouts, L-citrulline is something we see all the time – and for good reason! Citrulline is one of the best nitric oxide (NO) boosters on the market, capable of vasodilating blood vessels through elevating arginine production within the blood.[2] This stuff performs its job so well, that it even outperforms arginine itself in doing so![2]

    This can yield multiple benefits in terms of training. The vasodilation encourages enhanced blood flow, which essentially helps shuttle oxygenated blood to working muscles. Not only will this help invoke the ever-desirable “pump” in those muscles, but it actually aids in reducing fatigue. Research from 2010 saw a 52.92% increase in training repetitions in test subjects that received citrulline, compared to placebo.[3] These subjects felt less tired during training, while also reporting less muscle damage and soreness post-training, as well![3]

    Interestingly, a study from 2007 found that citrulline malate actually enhances amino acid utilization,[4] which helps explain how one could feel less tired and less sore when supplementing with citrulline. Being able to train for longer and more frequently sounds like something you need in order to really get after it in the gym!

    CORE packs a massive 6 gram dose of citrulline here, which is actually more than the clinical dose of 6 grams of citrulline malate (which is roughly 50% citrulline).   • Beta Alanine – 3200 mg

    While citrulline is nitric oxide first, endurance later, beta alanine is all about reducing fatigue and keeping you training hard! A derivative of the amino acid alanine, this ingredient is one of the most researched and proven substances in the game.

    L-Histidine joins forces with beta alanine to create carnosine. Beta alanine is the rate-limiting part of this equation, so supplementing more will yield greater carnosine levels.

    Studies have consistently shown just how effective this stuff can be, specifically when activities that last around a minute are of interest. Some crazy endurance-enhancing benefits were found in a study where subjects performed powerful exercises lasting between 60 to 240 seconds.[5] Increasing time to exhaustion brings some pretty obvious benefits to the table – better training sessions,[6] better results, and maybe even a bit of volume-linked body composition gains![7]

    If that’s not enough for you, beta alanine may be capable of a bit more! Research from 2009 tested the effects of beta alanine on trained cyclists in order to assess its effects in terms of power. After 8 weeks of supplementation, the cyclists receiving beta alanine saw an average increase in peak power output of 11.4%,[8] compared to only a 5% increase found in the placebo group. Being less tired insinuates exerting more power over a period of time, but it seems that this stuff can even increase power in anaerobic exercise, as well!

    Although some people aren’t fans of beta alanine due to the slight tingling it can cause upon taking,[9] there’s no doubting how effective this stuff is when it comes to improving your endurance!

  • Betaine Anhydrous – 2500 mg

    CORE decided to use betaine anhydrous, a type of betaine found in the molasses of sugar beets that’s also known as trimethylglycine. It’s found in several widely known foods such as spinach, seafood, beets, and whole grains.

    A landmark 2013 study showed that 2.5 grams of betaine every day can have profound effects on body mass and strength[10]

    This ingredient has been shown to promote hydration and performance by acting as an osmolyte and methyl donor.[9] It may even possess the ability to enhance endogenous creatine production by converting homocysteine to methionine, a precursor to creatine.[11] Thus betaine can lead to great power output, strength, and reduce dehydration.

    A landmark six-week placebo-controlled study performed on 23 trained athletes 2.5g betaine per day or placebo found that with a rigorous training program, the betaine group gained 5.3 pounds of lean muscle mass and lost 6.4 pounds of fat mass — a 3% reduction in body fat![10] Even cooler, the athletes had significant arm size increases![10]

  • L-Tyrosine – 2000 mg

    Yet another well-dosed selection, tyrosine is a conditionally-essential amino acid that operates as a cognitive powerhouse. It works in ways that differ from most other amino acids, being mainly concerned with neurotransmitters than muscle building!

    Research has shown that tyrosine is used by the body to manufacture a number of crucial neurotransmitters, such as dopamine (the “feel-good” neurotransmitter), adrenaline, and noradrenaline.[12] Thus, it makes sense that supplementing tyrosine can increase levels of these chemicals, inducing a raised state of cognition – a study from 2015 concluded as much, finding that subjects given tyrosine were much more capable of completing mental tasks in an efficient manner.[13]

    As a bonus, research remains ongoing regarding the relationship between tyrosine and testosterone, there are some early pieces of information that have been unveiled. One study found a significant link between hypogonadism and tyrosine kinase inhibition,[14] which lends credence to intaking tyrosine to maintain proper male functioning, despite this same study finding no effect on testosterone levels. Another study saw tyrosine alleviate symptoms of erectile dysfunction in mice, albeit in a small study.[15]

    The cognitive effects of tyrosine alone make it worth supplementing with the amino acid, especially in a pre-workout.

  • Creatine MagnaPower Magnesium Creatine Chelate – 1500 mg

    Creatine MagnaPower is a trademarked and patented form of creatine that’s bound to magnesium, giving you two sides of benefits. This dose may not be a clinical one, and we generally recommend 3-5 grams of total creatine per day, but it does support 29% of your daily recommended value of magnesium, which can help as well.

    Arguably the best, most researched muscle-building ingredient we’ve ever known, creatine has been around within the sports supplement industry for years! When it comes to getting stronger and putting on lean mass, there’s no debating how effective this stuff can be, regardless of what you may have read in the past. Creatine works and it’s safe, and luckily for us, CORE Nutritionals agrees!

    With so many research studies circulating among different journals, it can be a little difficult to sometimes grasp the totality of what creatine has to offer. Understanding this, a meta-analysis from 2003 dove into over 20 studies in order to summarize the different effects of creatine. They reached some rather definitive conclusions – creatine can increase muscle strength, maximum strength, and overall training performance![16] Other studies have contributed their own support of this ingredient, as well, noting increases in anaerobic power and less fatigue in subjects supplementing with creatine.[17,18]

    With most suggesting around 3-5g of creatine monohydrate daily for maximum effectiveness, you’ll want to look elsewhere to get the other half of that dose (or just eat 2 pounds of meat)!

    Make no mistake about it – creatine should be in your daily supplement regimen if you hope to maximize any gains made in training, unless you’re eating pounds of beef (hey, some of us do it). Think of it almost as a daily multivitamin, but for your muscles!

  • VasoDrive-AP – 254 mg

    A Doug Miller pump-time favorite, VasoDrive-AP is an incredible pump ingredient made with two lacto-tri-peptidesisoleucyl-prolyl-proline (IPP) and valyl-prolyl-proline (VPP). These each consist of three amino acids in series, and are extracted from casein protein.

    They help with pumps because they inhibit ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme),[19,20] which causes blood flow-restricting vasoconstriction.[21] These ingredients help reverse that effect,[22] increasing blood vessel diameter and improving blood flow.

    Over thirty studies have been performed on these lacto-tri-peptides — a solid meta-analysis to read that encompasses them is titled “Casein-Derived Lactotripeptides Reduce Systolic and Diastolic Blood Pressure in a Meta-Analysis of Randomised Clinical Trials.”[19]

  • Caffeine Anhydrous – 250 mg (of 350 total mg)

    In order to trigger a bit of training-related energy, CORE of course ensured that a stimulant like caffeine is involved! Needing no introduction, caffeine is yet another tried-and-true supplemented ingredient. It can help increase energy levels,[23] which can in turn elevate your training performance.[24] Caffeine anhydrous, specifically, is the fastest-acting form of the stimulant out there, so you can bet you’ll be feeling this one shortly after taking it!

    Although a 250mg dose is a touch mild anymore, it’s not the full formula – we still have more extended release to get us to 350 milligrams total!

  • Citicoline (Cytidine 5′-diphosphocholine) – 250 mg

    Also known as CDP-Choline, citicoline is a very bioavailable form of choline that includes cytidine, which is necessary for the production of phosphatidylcholine. It’s also the precursor to acetylcholine,[25] which we call “the learning neurotransmitter”, because it facilitates cognitive functions like learning and memory formation.[26,27]

    The reason we love this inclusion is because citicoline can also boost dopamine and norepinephrine levels![28] Paired with L-Tyrosine, this makes it an incredible inclusion, and we’re excited to see it as the choice choline source inside.

  • zumXR XR Caffeine – 140 mg (yields ~100 of 350 total mg)

    zumXR is a form of caffeine that comes in two different forms – extended release and delayed release. Here, we have the extended release version, which has a 70% caffeine yield, leaving us with an extra 100 milligrams of caffeine. That gets us to our final total of 350 milligrams.

    This is excellent because the caffeine doesn’t all spike at once — you get a prolonged release, leading to fewer downsides and longer energy potential. These energy blends are very popular, and CORE is using more extended release caffeine than most of its competition. Don’t take Fury Australia too close to bed!

  • S7 – 100 mg

    S7 is a trademarked ingredient that stands for SPECTRA 7. It’s a naturally-sourced blend of green coffee bean, green tea, turmeric, tart cherry, blueberry, broccoli, and kale. Through their antioxidant properties, this blend has been found to increase the bioavailability of nitric oxide.[29]

    Understand that NO is a free radical — its tendency is to bind to things, and when it does that, it is inactivated. S7’s antioxidants take on what would otherwise bind to NO, and binds with them instead – freeing up more nitric oxide to support your blood flow during training!

  • Huperzia serrata Extract (leaf and stem) (1% Huperzine A) – 20mg

    To pair with citicoline, Huperzine A is added because it’s an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.[30] This means that it inhibits acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that breaks down acetylcholine!

    Because of this, it can enhance learning and cognitive function,[31] and has even been shown to stimulate neurogenesis – new neurons grew in the research![32]

    200 micrograms is the yield we’ll see here, and that’s on the upper end of dosing, as we’d expect from a product named FURY.

    And even though it’s not a clinical dose, it’s nice to get a bit of extra creatine and magnesium back into pre-workouts. Should you take more creatine? Almost definitely, unless you’re eating about 2 pounds of red meat a day. But will we ever say no to a bit extra? Absolutely not.
