Sometimes there are days when you’re just dragging and need a little boost in energy, but you’re not in the mood for the typical cup of coffee or sickly sweet (and carbonated) energy drink. Doubly-so if you’re dieting!
When these occasions spring up, it’s useful to have a tub of energy-enhanced BCAAs at your side. They’re cheaper than energy drinks and more “anabolic” than coffee – and arguably taste better too.
EVL Nutrition has created one of our favorites in BCAA Energy, most specifically the fruit punch flavor. But what about diet-specific consumers? Good news – the brand has expanded its energy aminos line up to now include BCAA Lean Energy, a pro-fat burning version of its popular BCAA Energy.

BCAA Lean Energy Ingredients
If you’re familiar with EVL’s BCAA Energy supplement, you’ll find quite a few similarities between the two. The primary difference between Lean and “non-Lean” is the addition of a Lean Matrix in EVL BCAA Lean Energy.
-
2:1:1 BCAA Matrix
-
BCAAs 2:1:1 (5g)
As we saw in BCAA Energy, EVL again opts for the tried and true research-backed ratio of 2:1:1 BCAAs, meaning each dose of BCAA Lean Energy provides 2.5g of Leucine, 1.25g of Isoleucine, and 1.25g of Valine.
BCAAs, primarily due to Leucine, activate the mTOR pathway in the body[1], which supports protein synthesis and muscle growth during those times in between meals. Additionally, BCAAs also enhance muscular energy, improve recovery, and combat soreness.[2,3]
Super-strict dieters should count these as calories
Glad to see a full five grams of BCAAs here. For you dieters, realize that this does count as 20 calories from protein, even if the FDA doesn’t require it to be listed as such! Fitness calculators such as MyFitnessPal (which we highly recommend for dieters, along with a food scale) usually get this number correct.

CLA (1g)
Found in dairy and meat, Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a collection of several naturally-occurring omega-6 fatty acids investigated for its ability to enhance fat loss while also supporting lean mass.[4,5,6] CLA provides a stim-free method for shedding fat via increasing metabolic rate and inhibiting Lipoprotein Lipase (LPL).[7]
LPL is an enzyme that allows fat cells to remove lipids (fats) from circulation and store them in adipose tissue. By inhibiting the actions of LPL, CLA keeps fats in the bloodstream, enabling you to burn them for energy rather than store them in you love handles.
Of course, this adds another 9 calories to the mix – but if you’re a low-fat dieter and you don’t eat much dairy or meat, we believe this is a great fatty acid to supplement. If you’re already eating meat or dairy, you probably don’t need more, but it won’t hurt you either.
-
Acetyl L-Carnitine (500mg)
Acetyl L-Carnitine (ALCAR) is a highly bioavailable form of Carnitine that can also cross the blood-brain barrier. ALCAR enhances the uptake of fatty acids into the mitochondria, allowing them to be used for energy rather than glucose.which means you burn stored fat for energy instead of glucose!
Plus, since ALCAR can cross the blood-brain barrier, it’s also effective for reducing mental fatigue, increasing focus, and boosting mood.[8,9,10]
-
Maca Powder (100mg)
Now here’s a change-up for an energy amino supplement!
Maca, a.k.a. Peruvian Ginseng, is an adaptogenic herb that has gained immense popularity in recent years for its ability to help with increasing energy in the body. Traditionally, maca was used by the natives of Peru for a variety of culinary and medicinal uses.[11]
Here, it’s most likely for its mood-elevating and memory-boosting benefits.[12,13] Though, if you’re a guy using BCAA Lean Energy, you’ll be happy to know it also enhances libido.[14]
Very underrated herb, and 100mg won’t get you the full effects, but it will get you enough to feel that “extra somethin somethin”. Give it a try and see!

CarnoSyn Beta Alanine (500mg)
As we saw with EVL BCAA Energy, the beta alanine dose is on the lower side. We’re assuming the same methodology for dosing carries over to BCAA Lean Energy as was used during the creation of BCAA Energy, which was:
””Our goal was to make BCAA ENERGY the most versatile anytime energy and BCAA support product with added benefits from b vitamins and other amino acids including beta-alanine so our users would be able to:
- Take multiple times a day in place of less beneficial caffeine based options
- Take at 2-3 servings on occasion for more intense energy
- Use on the same day they take pre-workouts or other recovery products that contain beta-alanine such as ENGN or RECOVERMODE.
As a result, we wanted to beta-alanine level to match that multi-use/multi-serving behavior, so if someone took BCAA ENERGY multiple times a day, took more than one serving at a time, or used other pre-workout and/or recovery products it would put daily use in the ideal range, which is why there’s 500mg of beta-alanine/serving in BCAA ENERGY. The most important aspect of beta-alanine’s effectiveness is that you consume the right amounts everyday over time, while the time of day is secondary, in order to increase ongoing muscle carnosine levels which has multiple performance benefits.”

L-Alanine (500mg)
L-alanine is a non-essential amino acid that plays a critical role in the synthesis of protein in the body. This amino also supports glucose production (gluconeogenesis) improving your energy, endurance, and recovery following your workouts.[15]
-
Taurine (500mg)
Taurine is an amino acid prevalent throughout the body, but mostly found in the brain, heart, and lungs. It’s an osmolyte, which means it encourages your muscles to absorb extra water, thereby enhancing your hydration levels.[16]
Taurine also aids focus and concentration due to it being stored heavily in the brain and it also reduces soreness when taken alongside BCAAs, as it is here![17,18]
-
Natural Energizers (110mg)
One serving (i.e. 2 scoops) of BCAA Lean Energy delivers 110mg Natural Caffeine from a combination of green coffee bean and green tea extract which provides a smoother energy boost and some antioxidants as well. The moderate amount of caffeine means that BCAA Lean Energy could be an ideal replacement for your daily cup of coffee or go-to energy drink.
Flavors Available
BCAA Lean Energy doesn’t quite come with the plethora of flavors that regular BCAA Energy does; however, there are 4 different flavors to choose from, headlined by the newest flavor addition — Peach Lemonade.
The total lineup of flavors consists of:
- Peach Lemonade
- Fruit Punch
- Blue Raz
- Cherry Limeade
Takeaway
BCAA Lean Energy makes for a fitting morning or mid-day energy booster that can replace your daily cup of coffee. It also can function as a lightly stimmed intra workout that offers some enhanced fat burning benefits in addition to the increased energy. If you do opt to make it your pre or intra workout, it stacks well with EVL ENGN pre workout or EVL PumpMode for a lower stim / pump pre workout option.
Don’t want the energy? Then check out regular EVL BCAA Energy (fruit punch!) and save a bit!
