Mike and Ike Joins Myprotein for Clear Whey Isolate Flavors!

After joining the gaming supplement niche with their Command supplement, Myprotein has now joined the collaborative flavor game as well!

Myprotein joins forces with Mike and Ike!

Mike and Ike Myprotein Collab

Mike and Ike and Myprotein! The industry’s latest flavor collab is for Myprotein’s Clear Whey Isolate, and we hope there’s a lot more coming!

Today, Myprotein is proud to introduce their Mike & Ike Flavor Collab, starting with two flavors in their popular Clear Whey Isolate platform:

  • Mike and Ike Strawberry
  • Mike and Ike Screamin’ Sour Cherry

Update: Myprotein has expanded this incredible collab with new Mike and Ike Caribbean Punch & Sour Watermelon flavors!

Myprotein already had a strawberry flavor of Clear Whey Isolate, and it was one of our favorites… but this is even better. If you’re looking for a different kind of protein — one that’s light and refreshing after a hot workout, with more fruitiness — then Clear Whey Isolate is a product to check out. And these flavors are unlike any protein you’ve ever had!

Below we dig into the background of the collaboration, show our flavor review, and talk a bit about Clear Whey Isolate. We’ve already asked Myprotein to bring these incredible flavors to their pre workout supplements (such as The Pre Workout), so sign up for our Myprotein news alerts and let’s get to it:

What are Mike and Ikes?

Mike and Ike Candy

Created in 1940 and still going strong, Mike and Ike has the most underrated strawberry flavoring on the market!

Mike and Ike is a top-rated candy at PricePlow Headquarters, as explained in the video above. They’re a chewy, fruit-flavored candy introduced in 1940 by Just Born, Inc[1] that are most similar to jelly beans. After Just Born’s 1953 acquisition of the Rodda Candy Company (a jelly bean manufacturer), they were able to create several new types of flavors of Mike and Ike, a major innovation of those times.

Interestingly, nobody really knows the true origin of the name “Mike and Ike”, leading to several unconfirmed theories. This adds to the mystique of the flavorful candies.

Myprotein’s Mike and Ike Flavor Selections

The original Mike and Ike box is bright green, with cherry, lemon, strawberry, lime, and orange flavors. It is the strawberry flavor from this box that makes the first Myprotein Clear Whey Isolate flavor, and that’s good news because we believe it’s the most underrated strawberry candy flavor system out there.

Myprotein Mike and Ike

Your standard protein powder doesn’t settle like this! Consider Clear Whey Isolate a hybrid between a whey protein isolate and an amino acid sports drink, but with the profile of an ultra-clean protein powder!

Among the several variations are the Mega Mix packages (the blue box that PricePlow Mike had eaten in the video above) and Mega Mix Sours (the yellow box), launched in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

It is from this Mega Mix Sour package where Myprotein got its Screamin’ Sour Cherry flavor for Clear Whey Isolate, making for a very unique spin on a protein powder, since most proteins are not sour!

What is Myprotein’s Clear Whey Isolate?

Clear Whey Protein Isolate is truly unique – Myprotein’s customers love its lighter, more refreshing sweet flavors that are decidedly not like your standard chocolate or vanilla protein shake. These products settle clear (more like “translucently”), and we enjoy them with lots of ice cold water.

If you’re looking for a different type of protein shake – one that is perhaps a cross between an amino acid drink and a whey protein isolate, then Myprotein’s Clear Whey Isolate is exactly that product. There are now tons of flavors to choose from, but this Mike and Ike Strawberry variation is easily one of the top.

Our most in-depth details are in our original article titled Myprotein Clear Whey Isolate Clears the Way for Refreshing Flavors, but we have some details below.

Each serving (1 scoop or 25g) of Myprotein Clear Whey Isolate will deliver:

Myprotein Clear Whey Isolate Mike and Ike Strawberry Ingredients

Now this is a clean ingredients panel! This is what you can expect to see with these Clear Whey Protein Isolate flavors.

  • Calories: 80

  • Protein: 20g

  • Carbohydrates: less than 1g

    • Sugars: 0g

  • Fat: 0g

As you can see, Clear Whey Isolate is practically pure protein, just what most people want in a protein powder. This is great for post workout recovery after a hot workout, or simply as a more filling snack to get you to the next meal without adding carbs or fats to your totals.

Clear Whey Isolate Ingredients and Benefits

The trick is that Myprotein is using a pure hydrolyzed whey protein isolate as the sole protein source. Hydrolyzed whey protein isolate has a minimum 90% protein by weight, having filtered out any of the carbs, fats, and milk sugars (lactose) from the whey. It’s of course well known that whey protein supplements can improve body composition, add more lean muscle mass, increase strength, and help overall weight loss in both men and women.[2-5]

However, with Hydrolysis, we get even more benefits (on top of the unique flavor options):

Added benefits of hydrolyzed whey protein isolate

Mike and Ike Clear Whey Protein Isolate Strawberry

Mike and Ike has a heavily underrated strawberry flavor system. Can we expect to see more in other Myprotein supplements?

The hydrolysis process “pre-digests” it with enzymes, making it incredibly easy to absorb and digest.[6] That processing also makes it even thinner, and with enough work, it settles clear! Hydrolyzed whey protein isolate is still complete in all nine essential amino acids, including leucine, the kickstarter for muscle protein synthesis.

The hydrolysis leads to faster absorption since there’s less work for your digestive system to break it down and get the EAAs into the bloodstream — leading to a faster insulin response[7] and faster glycogen reload,[8] all ultimately leading to better overall athletic recovery.[9]

Myprotein then adds the secret Mike and Ike flavor system (natural and artificial flavors) as well as sweeteners in sucralose and acesulfame potassium (Ace-K), keeping it zero sugar.

A match made in candy heaven: Mike and Ike and Myprotein!

Flavor Variations

There have been numerous flavor variations, and we’ve covered most of them. The original Strawberry was a top one, but this Mike and Ike variation has just unseated it above the list. Wild Cherry and Dragon Fruit are two other PricePlow favorites.

Below is an up-to-date list of all Clear Whey Isolate flavors:

Don’t miss the Myprotein Mike and Ike Sample Box!

Myprotein’s first collage is a major success!

Myprotein is well-known for their proteins, of course. We were blown away by their Marshmallow Cereal flavor of Impact Whey, but this Mike and Ike flavor collab brings something even better to the table – nostalgia.

Myprotein's Crispy Wafers were awarded 2020's Best Functional Foods!

The Crispy Wafers (part of Myprotein’s Snack Series) were awarded 2020’s Best Functional Foods!

Myprotein’s goal is to “fuel your ambition“, giving you the tools to be successful – and that can include their apparel as well as protein. But here on PricePlow, we like to focus on the supplements and functional foods, which includes their award winning Crispy Wafers – another nostalgic hit. Myprotein is a massive brand that has something for everyone.

Our take on Mike and Ike is that it was wonderfully executed and co-branded – we’re not 100% sure most people want a sour post-workout protein powder, but for those who do, this is one of the few (if only one) that’s out there! The Strawberry flavor does steal the show a bit, though.

We want more Mike and Ike in The Pro Range supplements!

    Myprotein

Myprotein has a ton of supplements in Europe, and has brought many of them to the America shores at incredible deals!

Meanwhile, we’ve told their team that they must bring these flavors into their Pre Workout and Amino Acid supplement series — there is so much opportunity out there. As much as we still believe the Black Cherry Vanilla flavor of The Pre Workout is one of the best in the entire industry, a bit of Screamin Sour Cherry Mike and Ike could be fun there as well.

It’s been fun following this brand, and we’re looking forward to their next collaborative moves. To make sure you don’t miss them, subscribe to our Myprotein news below:
