Granite Supplements was started in 2017 by John ‘Mountain Dog’ Meadows, as a passion project to deliver the best products to not only his clients, fans, and followers but for himself as well. John knows there’s great value in taking supplements, as long as your diet and training are in check. But he also knows, not every supplement on the market is effective and can deliver the results you’re looking for. So he decided it was time to create his own company, to ensure every product was superb quality, backed by science, and would outperform other competitors on the market.
Who is John ‘Mountain Dog’ Meadows?
If you’ve never heard of John, he’s one of the hardest workers we know, not only in the gym but also in business. He fell in love with bodybuilding at a very early age, and spent his life fighting to get to the top. After several years and 14 attempts at winning his Pro Card, John finally earned his professional title in 2015 at NPC Universe after taking 1st overall. If that doesn’t tell you how driven he is, then I don’t know what else will. Not only is John a Professional Bodybuilder, he is also a successful coach, entrepreneur, and YouTuber. He loves helping people in any way he can whether that’s by offering them advice, making informative YouTube videos or formulating the best supplements on the market.
Introducing Granite Supplements: John’s Passion Project
Granite Supplements is just a reflection of what John values most, honesty, transparency, effectiveness, and quality. Without those values, Granite would not be where it is today and John is not willing to take any shortcuts. He’s either fully committed to producing the best product or he won’t put it out. This means a great amount of time, testing, and research is put into every supplement Granite comes out with, and John is fine with that because anything worthwhile takes time.
In the past few years, Granite has released highly reviewed products, and continued putting more out into the future. They seem to have the major categories nailed down like pre workout, intra workout, post workout, and general health. But what’s been missing? A top of the line protein powder! After months of trial and error, the company finally announced that Granite Protein Powder is now available!
You’re probably wondering why it took so long for them to come out with a protein powder, it’s just whey and some flavoring right? That would be incorrect, there’s some really unique things about this product that took a lot of time, research, and feedback to perfect. In this post we’re going to run through what makes Granite Protein Powder so special and effective! But before we explain all the details about this product, make sure you’re subscribed to PricePlow to get the latest news, deals, and reviews on the most popular supplements!

Check out our podcast with the founder and CEO of Granite Supplements, John Meadows! This bodybuilder, former banker, business founder, and family man lets us in on some of the cutting practices used back in the day, his thoughts of the importance of sleep, how to bulk, and much more!
Granite Protein Powder’s Macronutrient and Ingredient Profile
Macronutrient Profile:
A 1 scoop serving (30g) of Granite Protein Powder clocks in at only 120 calories, 1.5g of fat, 2g of carbs (with 1g of that being fiber), 23g of protein, and only 1g of sugar! As you can see this is a very clean protein powder, with the perfect macronutrient profile to fit anyone’s diet! You can use this post workout, in between meals, or as a snack to ensure you’re on the right track! With this unique blend, you could even use this before sleep since it’s comprised of both fast, medium, and slow digesting protein sources!
Now let’s see exactly what this blend is all about and why it may be more beneficial than other protein powders on the market!
A Complete Blend of Five Protein Sources
If you’ve watched any of John’s YouTube videos on nutrition, you know he believes that variety is a foundational aspect of any good diet. Coming from a background of bodybuilding, John knows that far too many physique athletes eat the same foods over and over again, which can cause some major health issues from deficiencies in key micronutrients.
John has also learned from one of the best physicians in the U.S, Dr. Eric Serrano, who reinforced the idea that getting in a variety of foods each day is not only best for health, but also performance. As a result, when John was thinking of how he could make the best protein powder possible, it only made sense to use different sources of protein with slightly different amino acid profiles to yield the best product.
That’s why when you look at Granite Protein Powder’s label you don’t just see whey protein or casein protein. It’s a blend of whey protein concentrate, micellar casein, whey protein isolate, beef protein isolate, and egg white protein. All of these combine to give you 23g of protein per serving with the added benefit of sustained delivery over a period of time. The blend of both fast and slow digesting protein sources creates the best environment to not only increase muscle protein synthesis, but keep it elevated for hours afterwards!
The five protein sources included in this blend are all exceptional and we’re going to dive into what makes each one a little different. The Protein Matrix as consists of 80% Whey Protein (from concentrate and isolate), 10% Micellar Casein, 5% Beef Protein Isolate, and 5% Egg White Protein. Therefore, this blend is primarily whey protein, with a few added protein sources for extra benefits!
Whey Protein Concentrate and Isolate – 80%
Whey protein is a byproduct of cheese production. During processing the solid curds get separated from the liquid whey. The curds end up being turned into cheese and the liquid whey undergoes further processing in order to create a powder that can be used in various products.[1] Whey protein concentrate can be anywhere from 34%-80% protein content with the rest of it being made up of fats, lactose, and carbs. It’s rich in essential amino acids (EAAs) and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), especially therefore its great for stimulating muscle protein synthesis.[2] In addition, whey protein concentrate is less processed than whey protein isolate so it contains other bioactive compounds such as immunoglobulins that can provide additional benefits![3]
Whey protein isolate is further processed to remove unwanted fat, lactose, and carbs, therefore it’s a minimum 90% protein content. Whey protein isolate is also rich in EAAs and BCAAs, it digests rapidly to initiate muscle protein synthesis right away.[2] Most people prefer to use whey protein isolate immediately post training or if they’re lactose intolerant because it virtually contains no lactose!
Micellar Casein – 10%
Micellar casein digests slowly and is rich in EAAs and BCAAs as well. When you consume casein, the protein molecules form a gel in the stomach, which requires more time for the small intestine to breakdown and release the individual amino acids.[4] This allows the amino acids to be delivered into the bloodstream over a longer period of time, therefore casein is considered to be an anti-catabolic protein source because it further prevents muscle protein breakdown.[4] So while whey protein isolate and concentrate are initiating muscle protein synthesis, casein is here to ensure it’s sustained over a longer period of time, which is great for recovery and muscle building!
Beef Protein Isolate – 5%
Instead of just including all milk derived protein sources, beef protein isolate was added to the mix! The beef protein isolate used in this blend is sourced from cows in Sweden that are grass-fed, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, and non-GMO.[5] Sweden is under strict European animal health regulations, so they have some of the healthiest cows in the world. This makes for a more nutrient dense protein source.
Beef protein isolate is an excellent source of protein that contains all the EAAs and in similar ratios to those found in human skeletal muscle.[6] It’s contains higher amounts of glycine and proline than other protein sourcesto help support joint health. Drinking a beef protein isolate is a bit different than just eating a steak, because it is partially hydrolyzed, therefore it has greater bioavailability and absorption.[6] Lastly, beef protein isolates contains nearly 98% protein which is higher than almost any other source! So you’re getting all protein here with practically none of the other macronutrients, making it ideal for a protein powder!
Egg White Protein – 5%
Egg white protein is here to round out this epic blend of protein powders! We all know egg whites are a staple in most bodybuilders diets since they contain only protein and nothing else. But they’re another exceptional source of protein and contain all the amino acids you need to build muscle and recover! Unlike whey or casein, egg white protein has a medium rate of digestion, therefore it really compliments the blend since you’re getting varying digestion times and amino acid profiles.
Every source of protein included in this blend has the highest protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score (PDCAAS),[7] which is a measure of protein quality based on our amino acid requirements and ability to digest them. Therefore, you can tell Granite is not using any low quality sources, to ensure you get the most out of this product!
Additional Benefits of Granite Protein Powder
Getting enough protein is crucial for recovery and building muscle, but if you can’t digest and absorb it well, then you’re not going to get all the benefits you hoped. That’s why Granite Supplements included protease enzymes (as Aspergillus Niger) to ensure your body can breakdown and properly utilize the protein. This will also help avoid any digestive issues sometimes noticed with protein powder consumption.
In addition, Granite Protein Powder is gluten and soy free because they opted to use a sunflower lecithin instead of soy to improve mixability. Lastly, John stated he spent nearly six months working on perfecting the flavors, so you know this is going to taste great!

This protein powder is unlike any other on the market and you can tell it took a lot of time and resources before its launch.
