InnovaPharm ZMX – The Ultimate ZMA formula

InnovaPharm ZMX

InnovaPharm has released the ultimate ZMA supplement in ZMX, that uses the most bioavailable forms of minerals and vitamins.

InnovaPharm is one of the hot young companies that’s making headlines in this extremely crowded supplement market. We’ve previously covered their focus-centric Limitless Pre Workout here on the blog, and are loving the “zoned in” concentration it provides during workouts.

Today, we’re hitting the other end of the supplement spectrum, as we feature another standout product from the scrappy newcomers that’s designed to improve your sleep!

You’ve heard of ZMA… now it’s time for ZMX

ZMX is the ultimate ZMA formula due to its utilization of the most bioavailable forms of the three crucial components of the product: zinc, magnesium, and Vitamin B6. InnovaPharm is billing this as the next step in sleep supplementation, and we agree that they’re on to something great here.

ZMX Ingredients

ZMX contains the most bioavailable complex  of Zinc, Magnesium, and Vitamin B6 around. Instead of aspartate forms (which is where the ‘A’ in ZMA comes from), ZMX uses the unique Bisglycinate Chelate forms of both Zinc and Magnesium to ensure maximum absorption.

  • Zinc Bisglycinate Chelate (30mg)

    InnovaPharm ZMX Ingredients

ZMX uses only the latest and greatest in bioavailable minerals to main the ultimate ZMA formula for you.

Zinc is an essential mineral that has shown the ability to elevate testosterone levels, but only if you’re deficient. Chances are though, if you’re extremely physically active (like our readers) you burn through zinc like there’s no tomorrow and worse yet… you might be deficient and not even aware of it!

Consequences of zinc deficiency include less active androgen receptors and lower production of testosterone[1,2], meaning less gains and “manliness”. Lucky for you, ZMX packs enough to ensure your micronutrient bases are covered.[3]

But why the Bisglycinate? Well, it’s all about the glycine in the bond, which is greatly beneficial for sleep. So keep reading and we’ll get to those details soon…

  • Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate (450mg)

Magnesium is the second most abundant mineral in the body[4], as well as the second most common nutrient deficiency in people.[5] Studies using the essential mineral note that it helps individuals sleep better, providing a calming and relaxing sleep. This holds especially true for those that are magnesium-deficient, which are sadly the vast majority![6,7]

    Chelated Magnesium

Chelated Magnesium is simply magnesium bonded to an ionic salt to increase its bioavailability in the body, ensuring maximum absorption.

Because so many people are deficient, we truly believe magnesium is the most underrated supplemental mineral out there for Western dieters. We’ve gone into great detail about magnesium supplements and sleep aids previously on the blog and discuss why magnesium is essential for optimal health, plus, we also point out the best form to look for when purchasing a supplement.

Read the above posts for more information – but the point is that we’re huge fans of getting the ‘M’ in ZMA (or now ZMX) because too many of us simply don’t get enough magnesium. While the bisglycinate form has been shown to be a bit more expensive, when you’re looking for maximum absorption and improved sleep, there’s no better alternative:

    What’s up with Glycinates?!

Amino acid chelates, such as Magnesium bisglycinate and zinc bisglycinate, bind the mineral (ie. magnesium or zinc) with the amino acid glycine, thereby “protecting” the mineral from binding to other agents, such as oxalates and phytates, which impair magnesium absorption.[8,9]

Upon researching the bisglycinate bond, there aren’t a ton of research studies available on glycinates in general. So we turned to one of the industry leaders in mineral bioavailability in Albion Minerals. You may know them from the various TRAACs® form of electrolytes you’ve seen in many popular pre and intra workouts.

They’ve published a white paper that shines some light into this up and coming form of mineral:

”The low bioavailability of Mg oxide can be improved by reducing the pH at the absorptive surface of the intestine, thereby enhancing passive uptake via the paracellular pathway by stimulating Claudin upregulation. The glycine in Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate is a powerful buffer that slows the rate of increase of small intestinal luminal pH. Hence a combination of both these magnesium sources offers distinct advantages…

Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate Buffered delivers 18mg of elemental Mg/100mg of the product. Per 100mg of the product, it contributes 8.9mg of magnesium that is chelated with 55mg glycine– enough to improve solubility and buffer the remaining Mg as oxide to optimize paracellular transport. Significantly more than half the product by weight is magnesium bisglycinate chelate – hence the name Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate Buffered…

Glycine improves the solubility of the whole compound, which improves bioavailability.”[10]

Beyond bioavailability: Glycine’s role in sleep and recovery

Meanwhile, there are also studies showing improvement in sleep when using glycine on its own.[14,15,16] While ZMX’s bisglycinates won’t provide enough glycine to make up for what those studies used, we definitely believe that there’s a dash of extra benefit to be had here, and it makes total sense to use a glycine-bound mineral in a sleep supplement!

This only leaves us wondering why nobody thought of this sooner… apparently that’s how InnovaPharm gets their name!

ZMX is the next-generation of ZMA supplement. When you see it being copied, remember who was the LEADER and first to debut it!

  • Vitamin B6 (10.5mg)

Lastly, ZMX includes the most active form of Vitamin B6 for enhanced absorption Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate, or P-5-P for short. Typically, your run of the mill ZMA formula includes Pyridoxine HCl as its Vitamin B6 form, which is “OK” but not quite as good as P-5-P.

    P-5-P vs. Pyridoxine HCl

This is yet another example of why ZMX is the premier ZMA formula on the market: P-5-P is “active” coenzyme form that helps to transport vitamin B6 to the body and doesn’t require conversion in the liver like other forms of B6.[17]

This is the component of ZMA/ZMX that gives vivid dreams!

Vitamin B6 is an essential vitamin and antioxidant the body needs and is used in energy metabolism and mood improvement, due to its ability to positively affect serotonin levels. More pertinent to the purpose of this supplement (sleep!), Vitamin B6 has been attributed to the extremely vivid dreams, which is typically a “nice side effect” to those who enjoy fun dreams while enjoying a deep night’s rest.[11,12]

What Separates ZMX from the Competition?!

We asked InnovaPharm this question, so hear it from the horse’s mouth:

”Basically, for years so many companies just threw out a ZMA product one after the other, with the basic forms of b6, zinc and magnesium aspartate and oxide.

We reinvented the wheel. After testing numerous other forms of Zinc/Magnesium, along with P5P, we found the perfect formula consisting of Zinc and Magnesium Bisglycinate Chelate. This form allows for ultimate absorption, as well as a relaxing effect you get from the bisglycinate. Glycine is a natural relaxant.

Why piss away your hard earned money?

When you start seeing the big supplement companies copying this innovative formula, we just ask that you remember where you saw it first!”

Dosing

Dosing directions for ZMX are broken down based on gender.

  • Men: Take 3 capsules, preferably on an empty stomach before bed.
  • Women: Take 2 capsules before bed, again preferably on an empty stomach.

Takeaway: Step Aside, ZMA

Move over ZMA! It’s tough to unseat a trusted industry stalwart formula, but ZMX may have done it as the most effective and advanced form of “Zinc-Magnesium-Vitamin B6” on the market. If you’re one of those people who have “poo-pooed” ZMA products as ineffective, perhaps it’s time to try the new bisglycinate-bound form.
