Last time BEAM made an appearance on the blog, we were raving about the premium BEAM vegan protein. It had next level flavor and texture that made it hard to believe it was a plant-based protein powder. BEAM absolutely rocked the field with that product and they continue to impress us with every supplement we try. It all started with BEAM Pre Workout, which was not only delicious, but also extremely effective.
BEAM set out on a mission to create a premium supplement line, and they’re delivering on that promise. Every product they’ve come out with may fall into the typical categories of sports supplements, such as pre workout, protein powders, amino acids. But what makes them stand out (besides their incredible flavors) is the unique twist they put on each product’s formula. BEAM Whey Protein is a prime example of that!
BEAM 100% Whey Protein stands out from the competition
Just from looking at the front of the label, it doesn’t look much different from other whey protein powders. But once you turn the tub around, you’ll see added ingredients making it a premium whey protein powder.
The base is 100% whey protein isolate to help you recover, rebuild, and repair after an intense training session. But you’ll also find unique ingredients such as trace minerals (Aquamin), blueberry and apple fiber, along with a solid blend of digestive enzymes that offer other benefits. In addition, BEAM Whey Protein is gluten and soy free, and contains no unnecessary fillers, which is just what we expect from an exceptional protein powder.

BEAM Whey Protein Nutrition Facts
When looking for a protein powder, you should definitely pay attention to the nutrition facts panel and the “other ingredients” section, because they both speak volumes about the quality of the product. Some protein powders are loaded with sugars, fillers, and other unwanted ingredients that can significantly bump up the calories and for some, cause gastrointestinal distress.
Protein powders are mainly designed to help you hit your daily protein requirement for the day, since protein tends to be one of the most difficult macronutrient targets to hit. Carbs and fats are relatively easy to get in and they can add up quickly. Thus, a protein powder should be minimal in carbs, fats, sugars, and easy to digest.
Fortunately, BEAM is using 100% whey protein isolate (WPI) which is low in carbs, fats, sugars, and lactose, but still provides a high amount of quality protein.
Here’s what one serving (34g) of BEAM Whey Protein provides:
-
Calories: 120
-
Protein: 25g
-
Carbs: 4g
-
Fiber: 1g
-
Sugar: 1g (0g added sugars)
-
-
Fat: 1g
Comparing BEAM Whey Protein to other WPI products on the market, its macronutrient profile is about as expected. And after tasting BEAM Whey Protein, you won’t believe that it’s only 120 calories with 1g of sugar.
BEAM Whey Protein Ingredients
Let’s see what makes BEAM Whey Protein stand out!
-
100% Whey Protein Isolate (WPI)
The foundation of BEAM Whey Protein is built from the highest quality protein powder source, whey protein isolate (WPI). Whey protein is derived from milk, but it’s technically a by-product of cheese production. Milk in its native state contains 80% casein and 20% whey, therefore the two must be separated in to obtain a pure whey protein powder.
In order to turn the liquid whey into a powder, it first goes through a microfiltration system to remove any bacteria, excess carbs, fats, and sugars. Then the whey protein will get spray-dried and turned into a powder. The end product contains nearly all protein, which is exactly what you’re looking for! There are two main types of whey protein you’ll see on the shelves, whey protein concentrate (WPC) and whey protein isolate (WPI), but what’s the difference?
The main difference between the two is their protein content by weight. In order to be classified as a WPI, the protein must contain at least 90% protein, whereas WPC can be anywhere from 34-80% protein.[1,2] There’s nothing wrong with WPC, but it does contain a bit more fat and lactose, which can cause some digestive issues if you don’t do well with lactose.
That’s why BEAM chose to use WPI as the only protein source in BEAM Whey Protein since it’s one of the most pure forms on the market. Furthermore, whey protein isolate digests rapidly, is rich in all nine essential amino acids, and multiple studies show it’s extremely effective at increasing muscle protein synthesis, leading greater gains in strength, lean muscle mass, and quicker recovery.[3,4]
-
Aquamin
Here’s an ingredient rarely seen in protein powders, but an incredible addition to BEAM Whey Protein to promote overall recovery.
Aquamin is a multi-mineral complex extracted from red algae, also called Lithothamnion spp.[5] Since Aquamin is naturally rich in calcium, it’s great for promoting bone and joint health.[5-7] No matter what form of exercise you choose to do, your muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons all need the appropriate nutrients to recover.
Which is why BEAM decided to add Aquamin into both of their protein products. This is just another reason why BEAM Whey Protein stands out, because it tackles all aspects of recovery!
-
Digestive Enzyme Blend (Amylases, Lactase, Proteases, Lipase, and Cellulase)
Because whey protein isolate contains virtually no lactose, it shouldn’t cause nearly any digestive issues. However, in order to ensure that you properly absorb all the nutrients, BEAM includes a solid blend of digestive enzymes!
Each enzymes acts on various nutrients, so here’s an overview:
-
Amylase: breaks down carbohydrates
-
Lactase: breaks down lactose
-
Protease: breaks down proteins
-
Lipase: breaks down lipids (fats)
-
Cellulase: breaks down cellulose
-
-
Other Ingredients
In order to create amazing flavor, consistency, and texture, BEAM uses a few extra ingredients that barely add any calories! This list may vary slightly by flavor. For example, the Chocolate Fudge has real cocoa to deliver a rich chocolate taste, whereas the Salty Peanut Butter uses real peanut flour.
Here’s a list of all the other ingredients included in BEAM Whey Protein:
-
Natural Flavors: creates a dessert-like flavor
-
Blueberry and Apple Fiber: enhances consistency, texture, and mixability
-
Sucralose: a zero calorie sweetener
-
Gum blend (Guar Gum, Gum Acacia, and Xanthan Gum): adds thickness to make it more like a milkshake than a watery drink.
Although whey protein is typically consumed as a shake post workout, it’s typically accompanied with other foods, such as carbs to further facilitate recovery. Some people like using whey protein in their smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, or adding it to baking recipes.
Either way, the digestive enzymes will help you properly absorb all the nutrients, which may boost recovery even more, and the other added ingredients will help thicken it up.

BEAM Whey Protein Flavors
One thing that really surprises people when they first try BEAM’s products is the incredible flavors. Regardless of all the advancements made in the industry over the years, some protein powders still don’t taste as good as they could. And it’s most likely that the company just didn’t spend enough time getting the flavors right before rushing into production.
You won’t have to worry about that with BEAM, because they use a custom in-house flavoring team that ensures every product tastes amazing. After trying the first two flavors that were initially released, Chocolate Fudge and Salty Peanut Butter, we can confidently say that BEAM knows how to make a whey protein taste like a dessert!
Here’s an updated list of all BEAM Whey Protein available flavors:
BEAM wants every one of their products to stand out from the rest of their competitors and provide people with supplements that actually deliver results. Although there’s only so much you can do with a standard protein powder, they found a way to make the formula distinct and we commend them on their efforts.
Be On the Lookout, BEAM Is Just Getting Started!
It’s crazy to think that BEAM just entered the supplement scene in March, because their brand is growing tremendously. Although BEAM already has an incredible lineup of products, they’re going to continue adding new flavors and supplements to offer more for their loyal customers. The owner, Michael Yewdell, is on a mission to make BEAM an industry leader, and they’re definitely on the right track!
Since BEAM controls and oversees every step of the process from sourcing premium raw materials to manufacturing, and developing custom flavors, they have an extra edge on their competitors. At times the supplement industry can seem very saturated, however there are still new brands popping up that are able to rise above the crowd.
BEAM is definitely one of those companies, and we cannot wait to see what else they have in store for the future. Be on the lookout for more products and flavors to come – subscribe down below to get access to exclusive news, deals, reviews, and interviews from one of the hottest brands of 2020!
