While the majority of supplement companies in the fitness industry sell pre workouts, protein powders, and amino acids, Revive MD was created to take a different approach. Two well-respected individuals in health and fitness, Matt Jansen and Dr. Domenic Iacovone decided to team up and produce a line of products strictly geared towards health and wellness.

Revive MD: A special focus on health and wellness

Chris knows how important essential fatty acids are for health, so he uses Revive MD Omega 3 in his overall stack listed below!

Until Revive MD came about, there were very few well-formulated supplements that could optimize your hormone levels and support your internal organs, and it took a lot of research to cobble together quality supplement stacks from other brands’ simpler ingredient listings.

After years of coaching physique competitors and competing himself, Matt realized health needs to be the number one priority, not only for winning shows or contests, but also having longevity in the sport. Physique sports can be incredibly hard on the body, especially when you have to diet down to extremely low levels of body fat, and food restriction can lead to nutrient deficiencies.

In order to address this problem head on, Revive MD was born and it was exactly what several elite athletes were looking for. They didn’t need another protein powder or pre workout, they needed something to optimize their health, which directly relates to improved performance. Great examples include Revive’s Glucose (glucose disposal agent) and Turmeric+ anti-inflammatory.

Introducing Canadian IFBB Pro Chris Bumstead

Several of the top competitors in the fitness industry started using Revive MD’s products and saw huge benefits. One of the biggest supporters of Revive is the 2019 Classic Physique Mr. Olympia, Chris Bumstead. After having some major health complications during his 2018 Mr.Olympia prep, Chris realized he needed to start taking his health a lot more seriously.

After consulting with his physician, Chris started shopping around for supplements that could help get his health in check. He quickly realized Revive MD had everything that he was looking for and after months of using their products, they decided to partner up. Now Chris is a sponsored Revive MD athlete and helps spread the word about the value of their products across multiple social media platforms.

Chris did not just walk on stage and get handed the first place trophy. He went through several trials and tribulations on the way to the top, which made the victory that much sweeter.

Revive MD Athlete Profile: Chris Bumstead

Let’s take an inside look on all the obstacles Chris has faced on the way to becoming a champion.

Men’s Classic Physique

There are three main divisions that fall under the generic term of “bodybuilding”: Physique, Classic Physique, and Open Bodybuilding. Each division has its own standards, rules, and regulations, but Chris competes in Classic Physique. This requires for him to be at a certain weight for his height.

    • Current: 25 years old

    • Started Competing: 19 years old

A Snapshot of Chris’ Bodybuilding Career

Throughout high school Chris played several sports, and although he was very athletic, he enjoyed the physical training much more than actually competing. After the sports ended, Chris turned towards bodybuilding to remain active — and simply because he loved it. Chris started competing at a very young age and never looked back.

Hailing from Ontario Canada, Chris was only 19 years old the first time he stepped on stage. Shortly after, he became a Canadian IFBB Pro in 2016 after winning first place in the North American Bodybuilding Championships, and he was only 21 years old. Becoming a pro early into his career was an amazing accomplishment, but Chris had his heart set on becoming a champion.

In 2017 and 2018, Chris got second place in the most prestigious competitions in bodybuilding, the Men’s Classic Physique Mr. Olympia. This competition is held every September in Las Vegas, Nevada and in order to compete you must qualify beforehand. It features only the best physique competitors in the world to showcase what they’ve built over years of hard work, patience, and consistency.

Long before Chris joined Revive MD, he used their products regularly.

Getting to step on that Mr. Olympia stage, let alone win, is every bodybuilders’ dream. That’s what Chris was working towards every time he stepped into the gym, and you can tell he wasn’t about to let anything stop him from achieving that goal. Despite earning second place at the 2018 Mr. Olympia, Chris was hungry for more, and he returned in 2019 to take the crown! Although winning first place meant the world to Chris, an even bigger accomplishment in his mind was getting second in 2018, and we will explain why…

The 2018 Mr. Olympia: Why Second Place Is Better Than First

After taking second in the 2017 Classic Physique Mr. Olympia, behind Breon Ansley, Chris was ready to take the top spot. Chris was determined to make 2018 the year he dethroned the champion and took first place. He worked incredibly hard in the off-season to bring up his weak points and perfect his posing, all to bring the complete package in September.

2019 Mr. Olympia Chris Bumstead

Chris fought hard to come back to the stage and earned the title of Mr. Olympia in 2019!

But little did Chris know that four weeks out from the competition, he was going to be hospitalized, with a possibility of missing the stage completely. Prepping for a show can be extremely hard on the body and several complications can end everything in a hurry.

A few years before Chris started competing, he had some health complications arise. He consulted with a doctor, but they couldn’t quite figure out a correct diagnosis. The signs and symptoms he was experiencing at the time seemed to just go away with the help of a few medications. But unfortunately, the underlying problem remained and made its comeback at the worst possible time.

Four Weeks Out: Hospitalized

Just four weeks before stepping on stage in 2018, Chris noticed some severe swelling (also called edema) in his lower legs. He had been frequently traveling to do events for his sponsors, which meant being on and off flights for nearly 10 weeks. One of the major complications some people face with flying is pitting edema, which means there’s excessive build-up of fluid around certain parts of the body, most commonly the lower leg, ankles, and feet. But even after stopping all travel and doing everything he could to get the swelling out of his legs, nothing worked. Instead, it just got worse, spreading to other areas of Chris’ body, such as his hamstrings, lower back, and abdomen.

Revive MD Kidney RX

Chris had some serious health issues with his kidneys, so in order to give them some support, he uses Revive MD Kidney.

That’s when Chris decided it was time to go get serious help. After waiting 8 hours at the local emergency room, he was hospitalized for three days. They did everything they could to figure out what was wrong. Several diagnostic tests were conducted to get down to the bottom of what was happening to Chris and his health. The doctors discovered that he was having some issues with his kidneys and needed to be on various medications. In order to get an accurate diagnosis, Chris had to do a kidney biopsy, meaning they had to remove a piece of his kidney for testing.

After three days in the hospital, barely eating, and not training at all, Chris returned home with a few medications and still no diagnosis. Not only did he feel bad and discouraged by the way he looked physically, the medications made him feel even worse. Chris was torn between driving forward or giving up, because the last thing he wanted to do was step on stage looking like he didn’t belong.

2 Weeks Out: Time To Push

With the support of his family, friends, and coach, Chris continued to prepare for the Olympia, but mentally, he just wasn’t back in it yet. Finally, two weeks after having the kidney biopsy, Chris got the results back. He was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, which is what also caused his health issues long before bodybuilding.

Luckily, Chris got the green light to compete, but with such little time left, he needed to do everything possible to get his body looking the way it needed to on stage. Chris was still holding onto a lot of water despite going on a keto style diet, doing intense cardio, and training.

Even hours before competing in the Olympia, he still had swelling in his legs which definitely affected his confidence.

The Comeback Kid

CBum Mr. Olympia

Chris is hoping to defend his title in 2020!

But it was game time, and at that point, Chris was happy to just step on stage. Long story short, Chris made the first call-outs and ended up in the top two comparisons, meaning he would at least get second place, and possibly first. After prejudging as over, no matter what the end result was, in Chris’ mind, he had already won.

Getting second place in 2018 after going through an extremely difficult prep proved that Chris had what it takes to be a champion.

And in 2019, you know the story. He became that champion.

With his return to the Mr. O stage, Chris earned what he had fought so hard for: the 2019 Men’s Classic Physique Mr. Olympia title. Needless to say, it was well-deserved.

Why Chris Chose Revive MD

After all the health issues Chris faced in 2018, he decided it was time to make his health the number one priority moving forward. Of course Chris still trained extremely hard in the gym, but he made sure that his recovery, sleep, nutrition, and supplementation were better than ever. Instead of pounding the pre workouts, Chris invested in products designed to optimize health, and after doing some research, he quickly realized that Revive MD had everything he needed.

Revive MD became one of Chris’ top companies in the industry, so when they decided to sponsor him, it could not have been a more perfect fit for what he was trying to accomplish. Chris knew he had built up an incredible physique that could take first place in the Mr. Olympia, but now he needed to stay healthy to showcase all he had to offer.

The Chris Bumstead Revive MD Supplement Stack

Revive MD has an exceptional line of products and PricePlow is a big proponent of what they do for the industry. Since Chris is an elite athlete and has pre-existing medical issues, we wanted to reach out to him to get an exclusive look at what products he uses regularly to stay healthy and keep crushing workouts.

Keep in mind that this supplement stack is customized for Chris, according to his goals and medical conditions. And it’s also important to note that a well-rounded diet and consistent exercise regimen are the most important things when it comes to health. But you know Mr. Olympia already has his training, nutrition, and recovery dialed in, so he uses supplements to give him that extra edge, which is exactly what they are intended to be used for.

Revive MD Chris Bumstead Supp Stack

Chris is always stocked up on Revive MD!

Here’s what @CBum takes all year round to stay on the top of his game!

Chris’ supplement stack varies slightly, depending on if he’s in-season or off-season, but in general the ones listed above are his staples. Since Chris travels all year round for various events, the Daily Greens come in handy for the times he’s on the go and getting in enough micronutrients becomes difficult. We all know how easy it is for your diet to go off the rails on the road, so Daily Greens can be a life saver.

Despite not having any cardiovascular related issues, Chris said he’s a big proponent of taking Bergamot, Blood Pressure RX, and Omega 3. Training and dieting can be very stressful on your heart, so it makes sense to take extra precautions. Since his medical issues in 2018 were mostly kidney-related, Chris utilizes Kidney RX to just give them some extra support. Finally, with all the stress and anxiety that comes with prepping for a physique competition, Chris uses Calm at night to help him wind down and get some rest.

As you can see, Chris keeps things relatively simple by only taking the key supplements he needs to stay healthy. There’s no need to take everything on the market to become the best, but it’s important to identify and select the ones that will help you the most. Regardless if you’re a physique competitor or weekend warrior, we all want to be healthy, fit, and active with no restrictions.

Final Thoughts: Optimal Health Leads To Optimal Performance

Whether you’re a fan or not, you can’t deny that bodybuilding is one of the most difficult sports to both be successful in and remain dedicated to. It’s truly a full time job — your sleep, training, nutrition, supplementation, and recovery must be dialed in all year round. But no matter how good you look on stage, it can take a toll on your health, especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions.

Pushing your body to extreme levels in any sport can result in injury or illness, which is why elite competitors must do everything they can to look out for their health. Because at the end of the day, even if you win first place, if your health suffers then is it really worth it? And bodybuilding is one of those sports you can do for a long time, so having longevity is crucial.

Revive MD does a great job at producing high quality products geared towards health and wellness opposed to sports performance. However we would argue that in order to perform at your best, you need to be healthy. So maybe you wouldn’t classify Revive MD’s supplements as sports performance, but they directly relate and that’s exactly what the industry needs.
