Giant Sports Delicious Protein ELITE Review

Giant Sports Delicious Protein Elite

Giant Sports has unveiled their new and improved protein powder with their added-amino-free Elite Series Protein! We give our thoughts below!

A few weeks ago, we gave you an inside look at Giant Sports new graduate line of products, aptly titled the “Elite Series,” with their debut product Delicious Elite Protein. Giant Sports came under a ton of heat and lost some loyal fans over the dust-up of their alleged amino acid “fortification” of their regular Delicious line of protein powders.

Well, to help assuage fears they released this upgraded line with no free form amino acids, promising the same full flavor that many have come to enjoy with Delicious protein, but none of the garbage and potential for “spiking” claims.

We had the opportunity to try out the Delicious Vanilla Shake and Delicious Chocolate Milkshake, but before we begin, you can check the prices and sign up for deal alerts:

  • Profile: 8/10

There’s not much to complain about here, no free form amino acids and 26g of protein per scoop. It’d be nice to have maybe 1-2 less grams of carbs, and only 1g of fat, but that seems like nit-picking in the grand scheme of things.

Giant Sports Delicious Elite Protein Ingredients

Delicious Elite Protein is a big step up from the regular Delicious Protein as all traces of free form amino acids have been removed leaving pure protein goodness.

It would also be nice if there were no mono/di-glycerides, corn syrup solids, or partially hydrogenated coconut oil (the constituents of the non-dairy creamer) used in Delicious Elite. I understand it may help with overall texture and flavoring of the product, but there are plenty of other delicious tasting proteins on the market that do not use these ingredients.

The important message here is that there is no possibility of spiking with the Elite Series of Protein Powders as any and all free form aminos have been removed from this product.

  • Mixability: 9/10

Clumping, probably the most important factor when determining mixability of a protein powder.Whether it was used in smoothies, pancakes, or greek yogurt to make sludge, there was no messy clumping or needing to fight the blender to mix it up.

Giant Sports Delicious Elite Protein Sludge

The Delicious Vanilla Shake flavor has a pleasant sweet taste with no artificial or chemical after taste.

Another thing I noticed is that it made for a nice creamy, thick consistency for sludge. It was not too thin as is the case with pure isolates or too thick like wallpaper paste when using casein. Delicious Elite yielded the perfect thickness to texture ratio when making nightly bowls of sludge. Interestingly enough, the vanilla powder seemed to mix up thicker in sludge as opposed to the chocolate…

  • Taste: 8.5/10

Now we get to the most important part of a protein powder, the taste. No matter how “clean” the ingredients may be or how well it mixes up, you’re not going to consume a protein powder if it tastes like dirt. Fans of the original Delicious Protein raved about how rich and creamy both the vanilla and chocolate varieties tasted. Does the Elite series deliver in the same regard?

As mentioned before, we had the opportunity to try both the Vanilla and Chocolate offerings of the line. Now, I rarely, if ever make just a plain shake consisting of water/milk and protein powder. It doesn’t fill me up and I don’t find it an overly enjoyable way of testing proteins. That being said, I did use the proteins in a variety of smoothies, sludges, and pancakes/waffles.

    Delicious Elite Vanilla

Giant Sports Delicious Elite Protein Sludge

No mixability issues whatsoever when using Delicious Elite to make a tasty sludge when mixed with greek yogurt.

Normally I’m not a fan of vanilla proteins at all. I’m much more of a chocolate or cookies & Cream fan, blame it on too many artificial and nasty tasting vanilla powders over the years. However, I have to admit that the Delicious Vanilla Shake is one of the better tasting vanilla powders I’ve had over the years. It has a pure, vanilla flavor that does not taste artificial or overly sweet. It reminds me a little of vanilla soft serve ice cream when used to make sludge, and when in smoothies, I had a hard time thinking I wasn’t drinking an actual milkshake.

    Delicious Elite Chocolate

Now, on to the chocolate. I’m always on the lookout for a great tasting chocolate protein powder. Most of the time, they taste more or less the same, i.e. milk chocolates, while that’s ok, I want something more robust and darker tasting. Sadly, the Delicious Chocolate Milkshake flavor did not deliver the dark chocolate flavor I was hoping for. It does have a strong and sweet flavor though, which I did enjoy.

Sometimes I find when making sludge with chocolate powders, the chocolatey-ness of most powders is lost and you end up with something that kind of tastes chocolatey, but not really. Not the case when using Delicious Elite. The chocolate flavor carried through quite well across all platforms of sludges, smoothies, and pancakes. As was the case with the vanilla, there was not strange artificial or chemical aftertaste that I’ve experienced with other proteins. So props to Giant Sports on the overall flavoring. You may make a vanilla believer out of me yet!

Giant Sports Delicious Elite Protein Chocolate Smoothie

Whether used in smoothies, sludge, or pancakes, Chocolate milkshake provides a rich, full chocolately flavor.

Overall, Giant Sports Delicious Elite Proteins do live up to their “Delicious” moniker. Sure there are some minor discrepancies when it comes to certain ingredients in the profile and subtle flavor tweaks here and there in regards to the chocolate, but all in all, it is a solid offering from a company trying to get back in the good graces of some disheartened consumers.

There are 4 additional flavors of Delicious Elite that should be coming soon and hopefully we’ll get to try them out here on PricePlow and maybe turn them into a cheesecake or other baked goods to share with everyone! Congrats to Giant Sports for correcting the error of their ways and releasing a powder free of all non-sense amino acids.
