Nutrex Research has been an industry leader since 2002, they really made a name for themselves with the Lipo-6 series, a weight loss product line that still dominates the market today. However, that’s not all Nutrex has to offer, some of their best sellers are Vitadapt, a comprehensive multivitamin, OutLift, a clinically-dosed pre workout, and EAA+ Hydration, a high performance amino acid formula! Nutrex has years of experience, which help them create exceptional products with amazing flavors.
In 2018, Nutrex was ready to tackle a big category in the sports supplement industry, whey protein isolate. Even with all the fierce competition, Nutrex released IsoFit, a guilt free premium dessert isolate. It was about time, because they absolutely crushed it! We even awarded it second place in PricePlow’s Top 5 Whey Protein Isolates of 2019. At the time, IsoFit had several delicious flavors, but the main two that really stood out were Chocolate Shake and Banana Foster! But you can’t go wrong with any flavor of IsoFit, Nutrex made sure each one was true to its name.
But this new IsoFit flavor is simply on another level.
I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Moose Cream?
With all the success IsoFit had over its young life, Nutrex decided it was time to step it up another notch. The Nutrex team was discussing some of their top ice cream flavors, and somebody mentioned the famous Moose Tracks.
If you’ve never heard of it or tried it, you definitely should after reading this article. But just to give you an idea, Moose Tracks consists of a vanilla ice cream base with peanut butter cups and fudge mixed in. It’s a great flavor, but challenging to make with a protein powder. There’s so much going on, and you have to get the right balance of everything. But if anyone can pull it off, it’s Nutrex — they can make a protein powder taste like dessert.
Moose Cream: The Fan’s Top Choice!
But instead of just running with that flavor straight out the gaits, Nutrex decided to let their fans pick the next flavor of IsoFit!
So they put up a poll to allow people to vote on six different options: Birthday Cake, Moose Cream, Cookies & Cream, Red Velvet Cake, or Blueberry Cobbler. After the votes were all added up, Moose Cream was the clear winner, and it’s really cool to see Nutrex fulfill their customers’ requests. So they got to work right away and spent several months getting the flavor perfected.
In this post, we’re going to give you our thoughts on the flavor, explain the benefits of IsoFit, and show you why Nutrex has been a leader for so many years. 2020 is gearing up to be a milestone year for the brand, and we’re excited to share everything they have coming! IsoFit Moose Cream Macronutrients
Whey protein isolates have more pros than cons.. they are an extremely high quality protein source, contain all nine essential amino acids, and have the highest leucine content out of any other powder. They also contain very minimal amounts of carbs, fats, and lactose, making them ideal for people carefully watching their caloric intake.
However, one major downfall is that several whey protein isolates are thin, watery, and lack the milkshake consistency everyone wants. This is why IsoFit stands out, because somehow Nutrex was able to formulate a whey isolate with a gourmet flavor and thick consistency. This helps keep the macros low, while also satisfying your sweet tooth.
Here’s what one scoop (33g) of Moose Cream IsoFit provides:
-
Calories: 120
-
Protein: 25g
-
Carbs: 4g
-
Sugar: 2g
-
-
Fats: 1.5g
With any premium whey protein isolate modeled off of ice cream, those are roughly the macronutrients we expect. This is a very clean protein powder with intense flavor that will make you think it’s a hand crafted dessert.
Nutrex Research really over delivered on the taste and quality of IsoFit. It’s no surprise that it became a bestseller in no time. Now let’s get into IsoFit Moose Cream’s ingredients. We’re not going to go too in depth here, because the main focus is on the new flavor, but for more info check out our original IsoFit article!
IsoFit Moose Cream Ingredients
IsoFit’s foundation is made from one of the best sources of protein money can buy, whey protein isolate (WPI). It all starts with fresh pasteurized milk that undergoes a specific processing method which separates out a curd substance from it’s liquid. The curds will go on to make cheese, but the liquid contains the whey protein, so it will be used to create protein powder.
-
WPC vs WPI
The process doesn’t end there however, because the liquid whey must be somehow turned into a powder. There are two main types of whey protein you will commonly see for sale, whey protein concentrate (WPC) and whey protein isolate (WPI). What differentiates the two is their protein content by weight. WPC can be anywhere from 34-80% pure protein, whereas WPI is at least 90% protein.[1,2]
Therefore, WPI has the lowest amount of lactose, fats, and carbs, with the highest protein, and that’s what you get with IsoFit.
-
Benefits of IsoFit
In order to create an isolate, it must go through additional processing than a concentrate to remove nearly all unwanted fat, sugars, and carbs. This is one of the main reasons IsoFit has such great macronutrients, because it’s basically all protein.
There are several reasons why supplementing with whey protein isolate is a good idea. It’s easy to digest and absorbed rapidly, which is great for post workout.[3] WPI has all the amino acids you need to maximize muscle growth. And it has an incredibly high amount of leucine, which is the amino acid most responsible for initial muscle protein synthesis.[3]
In addition to all of the muscle building properties WPI has to offer, it’s also a convenient and delicious way to help you reach your protein target for the day. And especially with IsoFit, it will help curb your cravings, so you can reach your health and fitness goals much faster!
As we mentioned, one of the major downfalls of a WPI is that the additional processing makes it a lot more difficult to flavor and achieve a milkshake consistency. But IsoFit has somehow cracked the code by adding in a few key ingredients we will cover next!
-
Other Ingredients
In order to create that gourmet dessert flavor, there have to be some extra ingredients added in. But as you can see from the macronutrients listed above, Nutrex still kept IsoFit quite lean.
The creaminess comes from a combination of non-GMO sunflower creamer and medium chain triglyceride (MCT) powder, which do contain a small amount of sodium caseinate, therefore the powder is not completely casein free. But in our opinion, how much those two ingredients really help improve the consistency and taste, with only an added gram of fat, it’s well worth it.
Xanthan gum and guar gum are added to serve as thickening agents, so it’s more like a milkshake than water. Lastly, a combination of salt, inulin, natural and artificial flavors, and sweeteners (sucralose and ace-k) bring that Moose Cream flavor to life!
Upon first taste of Moose Cream, you’ll notice that Nutrex kicked the salt up a notch. This is often what’s missing from other ice cream flavored protein powders, and it’s delectable!
All Available Flavors
Moose Cream is the star of the show here, but don’t miss out on the other amazing flavors of IsoFit. There’s a reason why IsoFit nearly beat out all the other contenders for our Top 5 Isolates of 2019. Of course the quality was there, the gourmet taste to it to the next level.
Bananas Foster has a fresh twist on banana that’s not overly powering, along with a hint of cinnamon. Chocolate Shake and Vanilla Bean really deliver a strong flavor that reminds you of a milkshake straight from the ice cream shop. Your mileage may vary, so pick whatever flavor sounds good and we’re confident that you won’t be disappointed!
Here’s an up-to-date list of all Nutrex IsoFit available flavors:
One final idea to consider for post workout situations: mix Vanilla Bean IsoFit with Orange Mango Volu-Gro for an insane smoothie that will bring protein, fast-acting carbs, and creatine together!
