Magnum G-Spring

G-Spring is the latest supplement from Magnum Nutraceuticals that’s formulated to help you sleep, grow, and recover from the rigors of life and your grueling workouts.

We all know that we maximize our recovery and muscle growth during those crucial 7-9 hours of sleep we should be getting every single night.

Unfortunately, we don’t always get that sleep.   • Vitamin D-3 (1000IU)

    Also known as the “sunlight vitamin”, Vitamin D is one of the fat-soluble vitamins that helps support mood, bone structure, and cognition. It’s been suggested that the recent deficiency in Vitamin D among various populations in the world, most likely attributed to too many video games, long work days, and computer time, has had a detrimental effect on sleep patterns.[24,25]

    Supplementing with extra Vitamin D has been shown to improve sleep quality in groups.[26] Additionally, cholecalciferol (Vitamin D-3) is the more bioavailable form of Vitamin D and will ensure maximum absorption by the body when used in supplement form. So, if you’re not getting enough sunlight, getting a healthy dose of D-3 may help you get some better rest at night.

  • L-Arginine Pyroglutamtae (1000mg)

    L-Arginine Pyroglutamate is formed by combining the amino acids L-Arginine and Pyroglutamate. Typically, arginine was used as a means of boosting nitric oxide levels in pump-enhancing supplements, but in recent years, arginine has been bypassed by other more effective means of raising NO levels in bodybuilders, through the use of Citrulline and Agmatine, among others.

    Arginine is still found to be useful for inducing spikes in Growth Hormone (GH) levels though. In varying doses, arginine supplementation has been found to increase exercise-induced GH spikes.[6,7] Additionally, when taken before bed, Arginine use has been shown to increase sleep-induced GH release.[8] Seeing as G-Spring is meant to be taken before going to bed at night, this makes perfect sense to include it as part of the formula.

  • L-Lysine (1000mg)

    L-Lysine is an essential amino acid that plays an essential role in the body’s production of carnitine, which helps the body convert fatty acids to energy and lower cholesterol levels. That sounds all well and good, but how does that help rest and recover?

    Well, an Italian study found that pairing L-Arginine Pyroglutamate and L-Lysine produced a synergistic effect and was able to increase secretion of insulin and somatostatin which promoted growth hormone secretion.[9] When either amino acid was taken alone, there were no notable increases in GH secretion, so while Arginine supplementation may be useful, pairing it with Lysine helps ensure you are maximizing GH production to further your recovery and muscle growth.

  • Mucuna Pruriens (300mg)

    Velvet Bean Flower

    Velvet bean extract boosts production of dopamine, giving you a “feel good sensation” and will help with sleep at night.

    This Velvet bean extract has been standardized for 50% L-Dopa. In case you weren’t familiar with L-Dopa, it is a precursor to dopamine, and when supplementing with it, dopamine production increases in the body[10] and when dosed adequately will leave you feeling awfully good!

    The reason it’s included in a growth and recovery formula is that it boosts growth hormone levels in conjunction with dopamine.[11.12] Add to this the fact that GH levels are already increased when sleeping, it only makes sense to include it in G-Spring.

  • Bacopa Monniera 30:1 Extract (220mg)

    Also referred to as water hyssop, Bacopa Monnieri Extract, is an adaptogenic and nootropic herb typically used in Ayurvedic medicine. It acts on the dopaminergic and serotonergic systems in the body, but also improves communication between neurons.[13]

    Bacopa Monniera has also been shown to reduce signs of stress and anxiety.[14,15] So if you have a hard time settling down at night and relaxing before bed, including some water hyssop may be just what you need to unwind and get a great night of shut eye.

  • Puerarin (100mg)

    Puerarin is one of a number of isoflavones found in a number of plants and herbs, most notably the Radix puerariae. Although its direct mechanism of action are still being researched, it does possess a wide range of pharmacological effects including:

    • Cardioprotection[16]

    • Neuroprotection[16]

    • Alleviating Pain[16]

    • Promoting Bone Formation[16]

    • Improving Insulin Resistance[16]

    While these may not be as glamorous as spiking GH levels, they will help your overall recovery and health, which will allow you to push harder in the gym and create a bigger exercise-induced GH spike!

  • L-Theanine (100mg)

    Theanine is a non-dietary, non-protein amino acid most commonly associated with green tea. It helps to promote relaxation without making you sleepy, reduces stress, and boosts cognition and attention.

    Several studies have shown it decreases anxiety and stress.[17,18] The dose here, 100mg, is just about the “sweet spot” we find, as when using around 200mg, it’s almost too relaxing! Although this might not be such a bad thing if you’re trying to improve sleep quality.[19]

  • DMAE Bitartrate (100mg)

    DMAE is a derivative of choline that fights the accumulation of something known as the “age pigment” in the brain[20], which can increase cognitive decline. It also supports the increased production of acetylcholine, a rather potent neurotransmitter that helps improve cognition and memory.

    We’re starting to see a fair amount of sleep improvement supplements with some cognitive enhancers – especially true when they can ultimately decrease stress.

    Anecdotal accounts of DMAE supplementation report good results with 150-200mg doses, so this is just a bit below that range, but seeing as you’ll be using this at night, you won’t need much focus or memory while sleeping…

  • Melatonin (20mg)

    Melatonin is typically dosed in smaller increments to help with sleep. G-Spring brings a massive 20mg dose, so this may or may not be enticing.

    Melatonin is a hormone secreted by that brain that helps induce and regulate sleep. Typically, doses for improving sleep quality range anywhere from 500mcg to 5mg. Here, we have a whopping 20mg dose, this is far greater than the average supplement!

    However, more melatonin does not equate to more or better quality of sleep. In a study comparing a 500mcg dose of melatonin and a 20mg dose, the 500mcg dose was more effective in regulating the sleep cycle of the participants over the dose that was 40x higher.[21]

    Furthermore, doses slightly higher (3-5mg) were also seen to be more effective than the megadose of 20mg. While this dose is not toxic by any means, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, fans of melatonin may absolutely love it — it’s just something to keep an eye out for.

    The most important thing to notice is that a dose this high is not even nearly close to being toxic. Doses at well over 20x this have been taken safely – so side effects are not an issue, even if it seems higher.

    In defense of higher melatonin doses

    We asked Magnum why they used a dose like this, and received a great response. In summary, it boils down to a few things:

    In regards to the melatonin in G-Spring the research suggests that the dose range for melatonin varies so much is that it is not consistently absorbed orally from person to person. This means dosing is very individual based on your ability to absorb it.

    That being said, doses vary for sure with a low as low as 0.1mg and a high as high as 300mg’s in studies for several months. Top end in our opinion is definitely 20mg and we like to offer our customers top end dosing and allow them to take less if less works for them.

    Hence why we made it a four cap serving so users can control how much melatonin they get. Granted they may not get the full GH boosting affects at a 2 cap serving but it will still provide sleep and recovery benefits.

    We’ve also reviewed studies with 75mg daily for several years with zero side effects and as mentioned, we even looked at a study with 300mg daily for several months with no negative side effects. Would I recommend a 300mg dose, no I think not, but this ingredient has quite the dose range is the take home message.

    Remember, there are four capsules per serving, so you don’t have to take all of them. However, no other brand has this dose, so it could be the difference-maker for you if nothing else is working as well.

    The ultimate point being, this is “aggressive”, but it’s really not unsafe or that aggressive – just differentiated from the competition.

    Update: Because this melatonin dose has proven to be effective for us, we’ve added G-Spring to our Top 10 Best Sleep Aid supplements! This is also due to the fact that L-Theanine, Bacopa, and Mucuna are all on that list.

  • Piperine Extract (5mg)

    Black pepper extracts have been widely used in supplements the past few years for their ability to enhance the absorption of the other ingredients contained in the product. Piperine accomplishes this by inhibiting enzymes that would otherwise breakdown or “attack” the other bioactive ingredients in the products.[22,23]
