Alpha Prime Supps Whey Blend vs ISO Protein: Which is For You?

Our coverage of Alpha Prime Supps‘s new product line continues with Whey Blend and ISO Protein. Today we discuss the differences and similarities of these two popular protein supplements:

The Benefits of Protein Powder

Alpha Prime Supps

Protein is one of the three macronutrients the body needs to survive. For active individuals, consuming approximately 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight is recommended to assist in recovery, repair, and growth. Although you can and should attempt to obtain protein from whole foods, protein powders are a convenient, fast, and delicious way to hit your daily protein intake.

Protein powders are arguably the most popular supplement in sports nutrition. The majority of them are made with some form of whey protein — one of the main protein sources in dairy products, such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. Since whey is highly bioavailable, fast-digesting, and rich in branched-chain amino acids and essential amino acids — particularly leucine — it’s an ideal protein source to use peri-workout. But you can use whey protein any time of day.

Whey Protein Concentrate vs. Isolate: Which One Is Right for You?

The two main types of whey protein are whey protein concentrate (WPC) and whey protein isolate. The less processed of the two, WPC, typically contains more calories, lactose, carbohydrates, and fats. It can be anywhere from 25% to 80% protein by weight. As for taste, WPC is normally richer and has a creamier consistency, making it a more popular option for people who can tolerate lactose and don’t mind a few extra calories.

Whey Blend vs. ISO Protein

On the other hand, WPC is less processed, so it retains more beneficial nutrients, like vitamins, minerals, lactoglobulins, and immunoglobulins, which help boost the immune system. Lastly, WPC tends to cost less than WPI.

Whey protein isolate goes through additional processing to remove nearly all lactose, carbohydrates, and fats. At no less than 90% protein by weight, WPI is one of the purest forms of protein. While it’s lower in calories, WPI tends to have a thinner consistency, it’s more challenging to flavor, and normally costs more. With that said, several companies are finding ways to make whey protein isolate taste just as good, if not better, than whey protein concentrate. It’s important to remember, if you’re sensitive to lactose or on a calorie, fat, or carb-cutting diet, WPI may be a better choice.

Since each type of whey protein has different pros and cons, Alpha Prime opted to use both types and created two protein powders. Now consumers have more options and can select the appropriate protein powder based on their goals and preferences.

To help determine which to choose, we’ll analyze the ingredients, macronutrients, flavors (taste), and price of each product. Keep reading to see the key differences between ISO Protein and Whey Blend!

Alpha Prime Supps Whey Blend vs. ISO Protein

Alpha Prime Supps ISO Protein

Alpha Prime Supps ISO Protein is made with 100% whey protein isolate!

The two protein powders that AP offers at the moment are:

  • ISO Protein – 100% whey protein isolate
  • Whey Blend – 50% whey protein concentrate and 50% isolate

The first major difference between these two protein powders is the price. ISO Protein is listed at $44.99, whereas Whey Blend is $34.99, before any coupons or discount codes.

The next difference is the flavors. As of writing this blog post, ISO Protein is available in vanilla, chocolate, and toasted coconut. Whey Blend comes in a chocolate peanut butter cup, vanilla soft serve, and chocolate brownie batter. Since Whey Blend contains 50% WPC, it’s better equipped to handle robust flavors due to the extra carbohydrate and fat content.

The last major difference between ISO Protein and Whey Blend is their macronutrients and calorie content.

Here’s a breakdown of each protein powder’s nutrition facts panel.

ISO Protein Macronutrients

One serving (33g) of ISO Protein contains:

  • Calories: 110

  • Protein: 25g

  • Carbohydrates: <1g

    • Sugar: 0g

  • Fat: <1g

Whey Blend Macronutrients

Alpha Prime Supps Whey Blend

Whey Blend is a combination of 50% whey protein concentrate and 50% whey protein isolate!

One serving (35g) of Whey Blend contains:

  • Calories: ~138

  • Protein: 25g

  • Carbohydrates: 5g

    • Sugar: 0g

  • Fat: 2g

Other ingredients

Both products have additional ingredients for enhancing flavors and improving mixability.

Both Iso Protein and Whey Blend also contain:

  • Natural & artificial flavors
  • Sucralose
  • Xanthan gum
  • Non-GMO sunflower lecithin

Alpha Prime recommends mixing one scoop of Whey Blend with 6 to 8 ounces of liquid and mixing one scoop of ISO Protein with only 5 to 6 ounces of liquid for optimal taste. You can mix them with water, milk, or milk substitute.

Final Thoughts

Despite their differences, both protein powders are of high quality and made with minimal ingredients. Uses a 50/50 WPC and WPI combination for Whey Blend helps keep macronutrients in check. And it still allows for a richer consistency and flavor, and lower price. However, if you would rather save on the calories, ditch the lactose, and don’t mind a higher price point, then you really can’t go wrong with ISO Protein.

Alpha Prime Supps Supplements

Alpha Prime Supps is now live!

Since Alpha Prime Supps works with several high-level athletes in physique and strength sports, such as Ben Chow and Kimmy Johnson, it makes sense for the company to offer two slightly different protein powders. For many competitors who rely on a diet to make a weight class or reach essential body fat levels before stepping on stage, every calorie counts.

A protein powder that’s almost all protein and nothing else, such as ISO Protein, can curb sweet cravings and help users stay on track. But during the off-season, when athletes’ calorie-intake is much higher, Whey Blend is a good go-to protein powder, thanks to the variety of flavors, its richer taste, and creamier consistency.

We hope this comparison helps you discover which protein powder is right for you. Make sure to subscribe below for more Alpha Prime Supps news, reviews, and deals!
