Slowly but surely, Myprotein is starting to bring more functional foods to the U.S and they’re receiving incredible feedback! They first released the (now-discontinued) Triple Stack Bar, which was loaded with 30g of protein.
Vegans and vegetarians were still missing out because those products use whey protein, so Myprotein launched the MyVegan Protein Bar, using pea and brown rice proteins to deliver 15g of protein per bar.
But in case you missed it, Myprotein launched another product alongside the MyVegan Protein Bar and it may be their most tasty creation yet:
Introducing the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar!
That’s right! There’s a new protein bar in town and it’s stacked with multiple layers for maximum flavor.
Myprotein Layered Protein Bar is known as the “ultimate high protein snack” since it contains a soft core along with five layers and 20g of protein! Clocking in at 220 calories, it’s right on par with several other protein bars on the market, whereas the Triple Stack Bar was more of a meal than a snack since it contained nearly 400 calories.
If you’re looking for something convenient, delicious, and affordable, Myprotein Layered Bar is the perfect option. Not only will it help you crush sweet cravings, it will also help you reach your daily protein requirements! The functional food category within the supplement industry is growing exponentially, and Myprotein is capitalizing on the opportunity by entering the space with innovative products.
The Myprotein Layered Protein Bar has less calories than the Triple Stack Bar, but will it taste just as good or better? Keep reading to find out more! But, before you go any further, make sure to sign up for Myprotein news and deal alerts to save even more money on high quality supplements.

Myprotein Layered Protein Bar Macronutrients
If there’s one thing that most people like to look for when it comes to a protein bar – it’s delicious taste with a well-balanced macronutrient profile, which is exactly what you’ll get with the Layered Protein Bar. It only has 4g of sugar with its 20g of protein. Myprotein formulated this protein bar to keep you feeling full and satisfied for hours.
Protein is one of the most difficult macronutrients for people to get in on a daily basis, so knocking out 20g with a convenient protein bar will help you reach that target. Protein is crucial for muscle growth and recovery, so that’s not something you want to be low on when trying to live a healthy and active lifestyle!
Here’s what you’ll find in one serving (55g) of the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar:
-
Calories: 220
-
Protein: 20g
-
Fat: 9g
-
Saturated Fat: 7g
-
-
Carbs: 19g
-
Sugar: 4g
-
Sugar Alcohol: 12g
-
It’s important to note that there are some sugar alcohols in this protein bar, which do not count towards actual sugar content. They also have less calories than normal sugar, therefore the macronutrients don’t exactly add up to the calorie count listed on the label, although it is accurate.
Overall, the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar has a very solid macronutrient ratio, as long as you’re good with saturated fat (which we are – you can see why in our MCT oil article). Long story short, it’s a far better option than several other snacks available.
Now let’s get into what ingredients make up these macronutrients and deliver the indulgent flavor!
Myprotein Layered Protein Bar Ingredients
Since the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar is divided into five layers, that’s how we will split up the ingredients! Here’s a complete breakdown of what each layer contains to create a true candy bar flavor that’s somehow high in protein and low in sugar:
-
Layer 1: White Confectionary Coating (Maltitol, Palm Kernel Oil, Milk Protein Isolate, Nonfat Dry Milk, Soy Lecithin (an Emulsifier), Distilled Monoglycerides, Natural Flavor, Sucralose)
-
Layer 2: Chocolate Flavored Coating (Maltitol, Palm Kernel Oil, Milk Protein Concentrate, Cocoa Powder, Calcium Caseinate, Soy Lecithin (an Emulsifier), Natural Flavor),
-
Layer 3: Icing Layer (Invert Sugar, Corn Syrup, Milk Protein Isolate, Vanilla Extract, Invertase), Maltitol, Glycerine, Soy Protein Isolate, Gelatin, Sweetened Condensed Milk (Milk Solids, Sugar), Water, Soy Protein Crisp (Isolated Soy Protein)
-
Layer 4: Cocoa Soy Protein Crisp (Isolated Soy Protein, Cocoa Processed with Alkali, Tapioca Starch)
-
Layer 5: Peanut Butter (Peanuts, Salt, Palm Oil), Whey Protein Concentrate, Palm Kernel Oil, Cocoa processed with Alkali, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Butter (Cream, Salt), Soy Lecithin (an Emulsifier), Corn Starch and Potassium Sorbate (Preservative).
Protein Sources:
As you can see from the list, the 20g of protein is coming from a wide variety of sources, including whey protein concentrate, milk protein isolate, soy protein isolate, and milk protein concentrate.
Since there’s so much going on in this protein bar, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly what source is delivering the most protein, however each one is high quality and classified as a complete protein, meaning that they contain all nine essential amino acids.
Needless to say, this is dairy and soy-based, but if you want dairy-free / soy-free, check out MyVegan Protein Bar.
Fat Sources:
The ingredients that deliver the 9g of fat are a combination of palm kernel oil, butter, and peanut butter. There are trace amounts of fat in the other ingredients, but those are the main sources. It’s obvious that palm kernel oil is the primary fat in the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar because out of the 9g of fat, 7g is saturated fat.
If you’re familiar with protein bars, a large majority of them use some sort of palm oil to deliver the right consistency and texture.
Carbohydrates and Sweeteners
In order to create a protein bar that tastes like a dessert but only contains 4g of sugar, there’s a combination of both natural and artificial sweeteners. As you can see from our list, the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar contains a mixture of sugars, sucralose, and a sugar alcohol called maltitol.
Sugar alcohols are common additions to functional foods as a sugar substitute. The name is very confusing because sugar alcohols do not technically fall under the same category as standard table sugar. Sugar alcohols can either be commercially produced or naturally found in some fruits and vegetables.
They contain approximately half the amount of calories as sugar. Thus, sugar contains 4 calories per gram whereas sugar alcohols contain around 2 calories per gram. But the sugar alcohols do count as carbohydrates, which contributes to the 19g found in this protein bar.
One of the primary reasons companies use sugar alcohols is to deliver a sweet flavor with fewer calories. It’s important to note that some people may experience gastrointestinal distress from consuming excessive amounts of sugar alcohols, but that varies significantly depending on the person.
The other ingredients that the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar contains we didn’t go into detail on are just added for flavor and texture, such as cocoa powder, vanilla extract, natural and artificial flavors, corn starch, and soy lecithin. Lastly, keep in mind that this list is for the cookies n’ cream flavor only, so others will vary slightly!
Available Flavors
The first flavor that launched for Myprotein Layered Protein Bar was a timeless treat – cookies n’ cream! This works seamlessly with the five layers, since you can switch between a chocolate cookie flavor and a lighter cream flavor.
The ratings on Myprotein’s website speak for themselves, customers are loving this new snack. If it tastes as good as the Triple Stack bar, then the Myprotein Layered Protein Bar is bound to be a home run! We’re excited to see what other flavors Myprotein comes up with because the possibilities are endless.
Here’s an updated list of all Myprotein Layered Protein Bar’s available flavors:
What’s the difference between Layered Bar and Triple Stack Bar?
We were obviously huge fans of Myprotein’s Triple Stack Bar (discontinued), so why release another bar instead of more Triple Stack Flavors? Here are the differences:
- Layered Bar has fewer calories (and less protein)
- Layered Bar is less expensive
- Layered Bar has more crunch and Triple Stack Bar has more chew
They’re both incredible bars, but the Triple Stack Bar is definitely a bit more on the “bulking” side of things!
Kick Cravings and Hit Your Protein Intake With Myprotein
Myprotein has always been known for having an incredibly diverse range of protein powders, from plant-based to whey or casein, they have something to offer for everyone.
Although protein powder has several benefits, sometimes it’s nice to have a snack that’s portable, convenient, and doesn’t require a shaker bottle. That’s where protein bars and functional foods come into the picture.
As of the past few months, it’s been a major focus for Myprotein, especially in the US. They’ve released several protein bars in a relatively short period of time and we won’t be surprised if that trend continues! Having a great tasting protein bar on hand is an amazing tool for staying on track with your health and fitness goals, by giving you a treat to look forward to that’s packed with protein to fuel recovery and muscle growth.
You could argue that a whole food based meal would be better than a protein bar, but having some occasionally is a lot better than binging on chocolate bars. Plus, they can easily be taken with you on the go, so you can avoid hitting up the vending machines or fast food restaurants. Myprotein’s entire goal is to fuel your passion by creating high quality supplements at very affordable prices.
