Grass Fed Whey Ingredients

Catalyst Grass-Fed Whey Ingredients

Catalyst Grass Fed Whey uses a 3:1 isolate to concentrate ratio in their protein powder which speaks to the products quality. has crafted a fairly straightforward whey protein product that’s free of a lot of the junk fillers and artificial nonsense you’ll find in some other protein powders on the market. It should be after all, as it’s NSF certified for Sport, so drug-tested athletes (and picky consumers) can take it without fear!

  • Protein Blend

Catalyst Grass Fed Whey is a protein blend of Grass-fed Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) and Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC), respectively. Seeing WPI first tells us it’s contributing the majority of the mass to this blend, which is a good thing for those of you who may be a little lactose-sensitive.

WPI is the premier form of whey protein as it must contain a minimum of 90% protein by mass, while WPC can contain anywhere from 35-80% protein by mass with the remaining portion consisting of fats and carbs (i.e. lactose).[1,2]

    • High WPI Content!

“The Catalyst 100% Grass Fed Whey, derived from hormone-free milk from grass-fed cows, is not only a cleaner source than many other proteins on the market, it also features a 3:1 whey isolate to concentrate ratio which speaks to the high quality of the product. This is a formula our entire team wants to put into their bodies.”

Interestingly, grass fed beef (and likely milk) has healthier fatty acid profiles, but since this is such a low-fat protein powder, we won’t get much benefit out of that side of things.

  • Sweeteners’s Grass Fed Whey contains no artificial sweeteners. Instead of sucralose or Ace-K, they’ve gone the more natural route and included Dextrose (pure glucose) and stevia leaf extract.

    Catalyst Grass-Fed Whey Inside

Catalyst Grass Fed Whey isn’t flashy with their packaging, they let the goods on the inside do the talking!

The good news is that there’s only 3g carbohydrates in each serving of chocolate, 2g of which are sugar (and some of that comes naturally from cocoa), we know that it’s 2g or less of dextrose – nearly nothing, but this is definitely helping with the taste over other natural products!

Most of you are familiar with dextrose, but for those of you who aren’t, dextrose is a monosaccharide (simple sugar) naturally derived (often from corn, but it’s in a ton of things). Dextrose is the same thing as straight d-glucose, which is exactly what your body converts other carbs into anyway. Compared to regular table sugar (sucrose), dextrose/glucose is about 70% as sweet.

The second sweetener included is the non-nutritive (zero-cal) sweetener, stevia.[3]  It’s composed of purified steviol glycosides, which are extracted  Stevia rebaudiana. Stevia is a natural sugar that contains 10.77% fiber and contains significant amounts of potassium, zinc, magnesium and vitamin B3.[4]

  • The Rest

There’s not much else left to cover with this whey protein product save a few other flavoring agents and thickener. Those are: Cocoa Bean Powder, Natural Flavors, Xanthan Gum.

It’s what’s inside that counts!

We spoke with the JP Cargnelli, Director of regarding the product, its design, and a few other tidbits about Catalyst, and here’s what he had to say:

”Our motto is simple: “What counts is on the inside”. This goes from the overarching concept of strength – wherever and however you show it – to our products. We spend our efforts where it counts, on the formulas that any level athlete, coach or trainer can trust and use with confidence, without compromising their sport. This is especially true with our Grass Fed Whey. Protein is an essential supplement in many people’s daily routines and consumed regularly. That’s why creating a clean formula with no added flavors or coloring was so important.

Our Grass Fed Whey isn’t only good for you, it tastes great as well. It’s 100% naturally sweetened with stevia, and while our Belgian Chocolate is the most popular flavor, we can’t say there’s a bad one in the line-up.”

— JP Cargnelli, Director

NSF Certified for Sport!

Catalyst Grass Fed Whey is in elite company as one of the few NSF Certified for Sport proteins on the market that’s safe for everyone to use, even drug-tested athletes like professional hockey and basketball players. We spoke to JP about the NSF Certification as well since it’s one of the primary draws of the product:

”Getting NSF Certification was very important to us. It speaks to the quality of the product and the dedication of the team working behind it. As many people know, becoming NSF Certified can be a long and challenging process, but we are committed on making sure the essential product in our lineup is tested and proven to be safe for all.
