Master Foods Lab is Bringing Big Food & Flavor Innovatoin to SupplySide West 2024

Master Foods Lab is bringing bold new protein snacks to SupplySide West! Expect to see everything from creamy protein bars to the show-stopping protein donuts. Join us at the Arla Foods booth on October 30 for a taste.

It’s hard to describe how hot functional foods are right now. For a long time, all we fitness-heads had to choose from were dry bars with strange, rubbery textures.

Now, though, it’s the golden age of protein snacks: cookies, cakes, muffins, and more. This trend is picking up steam as the men in lab-coats come up with new and more exciting ways to flavor and texturize whey protein. The leaders on this front are, without a doubt, Arla Foods Ingredients for their novel protein formats, and Master Foods Lab, manufacturers of out-of-this-world baked protein delicacies.. They say you can’t have your cake and eat it too, but the folks over at these two companies would beg to differ.

Michael Alfaro: Master Foods Lab - PricePlow Podcast Episode #125

Over the last year, we’ve had some awesome run-ins with Master Foods Lab and Arla. In February, we welcomed Michael Alfaro, CEO of Master Foods Lab to Episode #125 of the PricePlow Podcast, in which we discussed all things functional foods with a deep dive on the intricacies of flavor and texture design. During that trip, Master Foods also treated us to a factory tour and a taste test, where we were able to sample some assorted protein desserts, like cookie sandwiches, a birthday cake bar, a peanut butter banana blondie, and more.

Then in August, we had Christian Jonassen and Preston Losee from Arla Foods Ingredients to talk about the science behind Arla’s protein formulation on Episode #145 of the PricePlow Podcast. It was an enlightening discussion that highlighted the creativity involved in developing whey ingredients. Later, we released a write up on some of the ingredients we sampled.

Protein Bar Science: Arla Foods Ingredients on PricePlow Podcast #145

Christian Jonassen and Preston Losee of Arla Foods Ingredients join PricePlow Podcast for Episode #145 to discuss the science of protein bars, high-protein snacks, and the products from Arla Foods Ingredients to make them work best — for the long haul.

At our Arla Foods booth on Wednesday, we’ll be tasting some pretty unique protein creations, which Ben shadowed briefly in his recent short. First up, we have a bar not dissimilar to a Rice Krispies Treat. Ben tried it with dehydrated strawberries inside, and loved the rich inclusions. There’s also a plain version that is creamier but may have a hint of something else like lemon.

The real show stopper, however, is expected to be the protein donuts. Few have attempted such a feat, but Master Foods is nothing if not bold. True to form, they deliver. Ben is impressed by how moist and rich the donuts are on the inside.

Those are just the first tastes of things to come. If you’re coming to Supply Side West, we’ll be at Arla’s on Wednesday, October 30th, talking all about the newest protein creations. For those of you that won’t make it, we’ll be releasing a video of our sampling so you can see all of the cool things you can expect to see hit the shelves in the coming months and years!
