New Iron Deficiency Guidelines Set Adult Ferritin Cutoff at 30ng/mL
On September 16, 2026, the American Society of Hematology (ASH) issued new clinical practice guidelines for diagnosing iron deficiency.[1] The headline change: most adults, including menstruating and pregnant individuals, are now considered iron deficient at a serum ferritin of 30ng/mL or lower.
