VMI Sports earned a PricePlow stamp of approval after Mike and Matt reviewed their two L-Carnitine products, L-Carnitine 3000 and L-Carnitine 1500 Heat (see our L-Carnitine 1500 Heat review)! The company has made some unique products, such as when they decided to roll with heat-enhancing ingredient GBB in its L-Carnitine 1500 Heat.
So what else are they up to since we first introduced the brand (read the write-up on our VMI Sports page — they are run by the industry titans who sold Lone Star Distribution to Europa!), and what else have we missed? In one word: Protolyte.
A New Must-Try Whey Isolate
VMI Sports has launched a couple of additions to its whey isolate flavor lineup and told us to get back with the program. Protolyte is VMI’s cold processed whey protein isolate formula. Since we never discussed nor reviewed it, we’ll give a quick rundown of what makes this such an attractive whey isolate option.
The advantage of Protolyte is that you get a pure whey isolate and the flavor is still epic! No whey concentrate here. This makes Protolyte a get option for lactose sensitive people.
K-XR Made us Care
For the record, we now always expect incredible flavor from this brand, if only for the reason that the Miami Vice flavor of their high-stimulant K-XR pre workout is hands-down one of the best if you’re into coconut-based flavoring.

Do we need to discuss the importance of protein consumption? You know better than that, so let’s discuss the product itself.
Protolyte pack 5.3 grams of BCAAs, 4 grams of glutamine, and offers a unique advantage compared to ion-exchanged whey protein. Being cold processed, Protolyte whey is less likely to have denatured protein, which is always a risk with heat processed whey. So far so good!
What Does the Protolyte Label Say?
Protolyte has an attractive label, with each scoop weighing 29.6 to 33 grams and packing between 23 and 25 grams of protein. The flavor options range from 100 calories to 105 calories, making Protolyte an incredibly “macro-friendly” whey protein option. Each scoop of Protolyte packs:
- 100-105 calories
- 23 grams – 25 grams of protein
- 1 gram of carbohydrates
- under 1 gram of fat
- 0 grams of sugar
The flavors are listed below, but the most “bang for buck” one is Snickerdoodle, which has 25g protein in that 29.6g scoop — 84.5% protein by weight — very impressive!
From calories to macros, Protolyte is up there with the best options for low-calorie protein seekers. While each of the nine flavors could differ by a few calories and a couple grams of protein, Protolyte is a universally very clean whey isolate with no sugars and virtually void of fats!
Flavor Options
Protolyte launched in seven original flavors and recently launched two new flavors that will get your taste buds churning. Protolyte’s original flavors were:
The new flavors of Summer 2018!
Coming to the fold, which is why VMI told us to get ready to rock here, are the 2018 additions:
- Peanut Butter Cookies and Cream
- Milk and Cookies
Sorry folks, no “Miami Vice” flavor… not so sure that’d work as well in a protein as it does in that tasty pre workout (K-XR).
Sweeteners: Sucralose, no Ace-K!
Acesulfame Potassium haters rejoice, this protein powder has sucralose only. Also, there’s no guar gum – just xanthan gum.
There’s also an “Enzyme Blend” but we don’t know what that is. Digestive enzymes? Protease? They don’t specify.
Don’t miss this mineral complex!
One thing that VMI does to show that they care is to add the high form of minerals we love in the Albion TRAACS chelated minerals. The chromium may help support insulin and keep the protein driving into the muscle cell as opposed to fat, while they’ve added magnesium, calcium, and potassium too.
We’re often deficient in many of these minerals, especially magnesium, so this is great to see, especially when the majority of consumers wouldn’t notice or care. But VMI cares. And so do we.
Takeaway: VMI is serious about flavor
VMI Sports is a company that has blown onto the scene as of late with new products, creative ingredients, and awesome flavors. The company’s growth is evident based on its following and the feedback for all of its products is excellent.
Matt and Mike tried three VMI products recently, including the powerhouse high-stim pre-workout, K-XR, which we obviously haven’t stopped talking about. Overall, Protolyte is a whey protein isolate that offers significant advantages to other protein powders on the market, from a company whose flavors we’ve really begun to look forward to. If you’re looking for a low-calorie, low-carbohydrate, and low-fat whey protein that is made with high-quality whey isolate, then Protolyte is worth your attention!
