When PRAX co-founders Olivia and Nate set out to create their energy supplement company, they didn’t just want another caffeine product – they wanted something better. Like many of us, they loved the initial boost that caffeine provided, but grew tired of the crashes, jitters, and disrupted sleep that often followed.
After exploring numerous alternatives ranging from mushroom drinks to herbal supplements, they discovered paraxanthine, caffeine’s primary metabolite that’s been revolutionizing the energy supplement industry. Rather than fighting through caffeine’s ups and downs, they realized they could skip straight to what the body actually wants from it.
Meet PRAX: Energy Gummy Supplements Powered by enfinity® paraxanthine
Using enfinity® paraxanthine from industry veterans TSI Group, PRAX developed two different supplement gummies that provide clean, sustained energy without the common side effects associated with caffeine:
- PRAX Boost – A straightforward energy formula with 200 milligrams of paraxanthine and vitamin B12, available in Lemon Lime flavor.
- PRAX Workout – The same energy blend enhanced with L-carnitine for athletic performance and recovery, available in Mandarin Orange flavor.
The best part? These aren’t pills or powders – they’re delicious gummies that make getting energized actually enjoyable.
In this article, we’ll dig into how PRAX is using paraxanthine to revolutionize energy supplementation. But first, see where you can buy it using PricePlow, and check out our video below. Then let’s dig into the science:
The Prax Gummy Ingredients (in Boost and Workout)
Whether it’s Boost or Workout, each 6-gram gummy has 200mg enfinity® Paraxanthine and 25mcg vitamin B12. Let’s explain why:
-
enfinity® Paraxanthine – 200mg
While most of us reach for caffeine when we need an energy boost, what many don’t realize is that caffeine itself isn’t necessarily what provides many of its beneficial effects. When we consume caffeine, our bodies quickly begin breaking it down into several compounds called metabolites – and the most important of these is paraxanthine.[1]
Caffeine’s main metabolite
In fact, about 84% of caffeine’s conversion in our bodies results in paraxanthine, making it by far the primary metabolite.[2] The remaining portions are converted into theobromine (~12%) and theophylline (~4%).
But here’s where it gets interesting: Research has shown that paraxanthine actually provides several advantages over caffeine itself. For starters, it has a shorter half-life (about 3.1 hours compared to caffeine’s 4.1 hours), meaning it clears from your system more quickly.[2] It also demonstrates lower toxicity and causes less anxiety than caffeine.[3]
How paraxanthine works
Paraxanthine works through multiple mechanisms, including blocking adenosine receptors (similar to caffeine) and inhibiting specific enzymes called phosphodiesterases.[4] What makes paraxanthine particularly interesting is its ability to enhance dopamine activity more effectively than caffeine in certain brain regions.[4] It also uniquely affects nitric oxide signaling in ways that caffeine doesn’t, which may explain some of its distinct benefits.[5]
Recent research suggests that by supplementing with paraxanthine directly instead of waiting for our bodies to convert caffeine, we might be able to achieve many of caffeine’s desired effects while avoiding some of its common drawbacks like jitters or crashes. This potential has led to the development of enfinity®, a pure form of paraxanthine that’s now being incorporated into various supplements.
And that brings us to the recent research conducted with paraxanthine, that’s proving these theories out:
-
2021: Paraxanthine Improves Memory, Focus, and Attention
First came a groundbreaking 2021 study that examined whether acute paraxanthine ingestion could improve cognition and memory.[7] Researchers gave 13 participants either 200mg of paraxanthine or placebo and tested their cognitive performance over 6 hours.
The results were impressive – the paraxanthine group made 17.5% fewer errors in card sorting tests and showed 32.8% fewer “perseverative errors,” meaning they learned better from their mistakes. They also demonstrated improved reaction times and sustained attention throughout testing.[7]
-
2024: Paraxanthine Increases Energy Expenditure, Reduces Heart Rate and Hunger
Early 2024 brought exciting metabolic findings when researchers studied different paraxanthine doses (100mg, 200mg, and 300mg) against placebo.[6]
At 200mg, paraxanthine increased energy expenditure by approximately 100 calories over 3 hours – but what was really fascinating was that this came with reduced hunger ratings, unlike typical stimulants which often increase appetite. Even more intriguing was that heart rate actually decreased in the paraxanthine group.[6]

2024: Paraxanthine Outperforms Caffeine in Post-10k Cognitive Tests
The second 2024 study compared paraxanthine to caffeine in trained runners completing a 10km run.[8]
In post-exercise cognitive tests, paraxanthine significantly outperformed both caffeine and placebo, showing better sustained attention and reaction times. Interestingly, combining caffeine with paraxanthine provided no additional benefits, suggesting paraxanthine’s cognitive benefits work through distinct mechanisms.[8]

2024: Preclinical Study Shows Paraxanthine Enhances Memory and Brain Function Better Than Caffeine
Finally, a preclinical study published in Experimental Brain Research demonstrated that paraxanthine enhanced memory and neuroplasticity more effectively than caffeine, particularly by boosting Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) levels. The research showed impressive improvements in both young and aged subjects, suggesting potential applications for cognitive enhancement across age groups.[9]

Vitamin B12 (as Cyanocobalamin) – 25mcg (1042% DV)
While paraxanthine is clearly the star ingredient in PRAX’s formulas, the addition of Vitamin B12 makes good sense from an energy support perspective. B12 plays a crucial role in cellular energy production and the formation of red blood cells that transport oxygen throughout the body.[10] B12 deficiency can lead to fatigue and weakness, though there’s limited evidence that supplementation provides additional energy benefits in people who aren’t deficient.[11]
Including B12 in an energy formula provides insurance against any subtle deficiencies that could impact energy levels, even if it’s not the primary driver of the supplement’s effects.
L-Carnitine: Added to Prax Workout Gummies
L-Carnitine plays a fascinating role in PRAX’s Workout Gummies through its unique two-form approach combining 500mg L-carnitine L-tartrate (LCLT) and 100mg acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR). While the 600mg L-carnitine dose is moderate compared to some research using 1-2g doses, it may still provide meaningful benefits, particularly for exercise recovery.[12]
The dual-form strategy is intriguing – LCLT is well-studied for its effects on muscle recovery and reducing exercise-induced muscle damage, while ALCAR readily crosses the blood-brain barrier and may support mental energy and focus during workouts.[13]
Research indicates that L-Carnitine supplementation can help reduce muscle soreness and damage markers after intense exercise,[14] even at doses similar to what’s in PRAX Workout gummies. The combination with paraxanthine may be particularly synergistic, as paraxanthine can enhance blood flow and oxygen delivery to muscles.
While higher doses are sometimes used in research, the moderate amounts in PRAX gummies represent a practical daily approach that could still provide meaningful benefits when used consistently, especially for those focused on recovery and repeated performance. The gummy delivery format may also support better absorption compared to standard capsules or powder.
We’ll basically never say no to some extra carnitine, and we believe that it’s one of the secret weapons in one of the world’s most popular energy drinks that we frequently cover. If someone’s carnitine-deficient (due to not eating much red meat) and you give them some L-carnitine, they generally feel very good.
Conclusion: Meet Prax and Boost Your Daily Energy
PRAX’s innovative approach to energy supplementation comes at an exciting time in the supplement industry. With multiple groundbreaking studies published in 2024 demonstrating paraxanthine’s superior effects on cognition, energy expenditure, and exercise performance, we’re seeing strong scientific validation of what many users have already experienced – that paraxanthine offers the benefits of caffeine without many of its downsides.
The timing couldn’t be better for PRAX’s launch of these innovative gummies. The latest research has shown that 200mg of paraxanthine – the exact dose in both PRAX formulas – can increase energy expenditure while simultaneously reducing hunger, and shows superior cognitive benefits compared to caffeine, especially after exercise. Why wouldn’t you include it in an energy supplement at this point?
But what gives PRAX its extra appeal is their decision to deliver this revolutionary ingredient in a convenient, enjoyable gummy format. Whether you choose the straightforward energy boost of their Boost formula or the performance-enhanced Workout version with L-carnitine, you’re getting science-backed energy without the common downsides of caffeine.
