Ostrim – An Ostrich (or Elk) Spin on Beef Jerky!

Ostrim Teriyaki

Sick of Slim-Jims? Ostrim has created an incredibly unique line of meat snacks centered around exotic animals like elk and ostrich.

Think back to the glory days of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF or WWE nowadays) and you know doubt remember those 90s commercials of Macho Man Randy Savage busting through walls touting Slim-Jim — a meat stick (made from beef… get your mind out of the gutter!)

High protein, “functional” foods have come a long way since those debuted many years ago both in quality and flavor. One of the hottest items around these days are a variety of high protein snacks made by Ostrim, but we never really thought to cover it here on the blog.

Yet if every protein bar on the planet gets an article, why not a real protein source – beef jerky!

Ostrim has a diverse line of tasty protein-packed treats to satisfy a wide spectrum of tastes and dietary preferences, and it actually started with beef and ostrich meat!

Beef & Ostrich Snack Sticks

First up, we’ve got the original — an exotic pairing of meats with the combination of beef & ostrich of all things! We’ve never personally tasted ostrich on its own, but this would definitely rank highly on our “want to try” list of game meats.

Flavors Available

Ostrim Beef Ostrich Ingredients

Looking for a lean, mean, high protein snack? Check out these Beef / Ostrich sticks!

Good news! We get to try a “natural” flavor option of the beef / ostrich snack stick to get a better feel for the natural, more gamey flavors of ostrich since they won’t be covered up by a ton of flavoring components.

Don’t worry though, there’s still three other flavored options of the stick for those who want something with less “in your face” ostrich flavor. The full range of available flavor options includes:

  • Natural
  • BBQ
  • Pepper
  • Teriyaki

Macros

Each Beef & Ostrich snack stick will contain the following nutritional breakdown:

  • Calories: 80
  • Protein: 14g
  • Carbs: 2g (1g sugar)
  • Fat: 1.5g (0.5g saturated)

Ostrim Review

The pieces are a bit flat and rectangular – definitely less greasy than your typical beef jerky stick

Beef & Elk Snack Sticks

Ostrim Beef Elk Ingredients

Ostrich not to your liking? You can also try the beef / elk combo stick.

Next, we’ll describe some of the other exotic meat snacks that Ostrim has to offer with the Beef & Elk Snack sticks. The first two ingredients are beef and elk, like you would expect (and hope) them to be!

Following the two headlining ingredients, you’ll have a diverse array of flavoring components added to give each type of beef and elk stick its unique flavor. This brings us to…

Flavors Available

Ostrim has created three different flavors of beef & elk sticks, depending on what pleases your palate, you can choose from:

  • Habanero
  • Sweet & Spicy
  • Teriyaki

One thing we would like to see is a “natural” flavored option so we can get a better gauge of what the composite beef / elk mixture tastes like.

Macros

Each Beef & Elk snack stick will contain the following nutritional breakdown:

  • Calories: 90
  • Protein: 14g
  • Carbs: 2g (1g sugar)
  • Fat: 2.5g (1g saturated)

Beef & Ostrich Jerkee

Ostrim Beef Ostrich Jerkee Ingredients

Not a fan of eating “meat sticks”? No problem, you can get jerky from Ostrim as well.

Not only does Ostrim do snack sticks, but they also make jerky using a combination of beef & ostrich! The extra additives are less than compared to the beef sticks, which may be a “win” for some of you more “natural” eaters out there.

Flavors Available

Flavors are a little more limited with the jerky, as there are only two flavors available. Fortunately though, jerky fans will be pleased as the two options offered are some of the most popular jerky flavors around:

  • Pepper
  • Teriyaki

Macros

The beef & ostrich jerky packs a little less caloric and protein punch compared to their meat stick counterparts, but don’t worry, you’ll still get a sizeable amount of protein in each serving of jerky.

  • Calories: 60
  • Protein: 10g
  • Carbs: 2g (1g sugar)
  • Fat: 1.5g (0g saturated)

Where to find Ostrim

Ostrim has carved out quite a niche from themselves apart from the rest of the beef jerky market, chasing the nutritional stores – both online and brick & mortar. They’re distributed by Europa Sports, so basically any supplement and nutrition store that wishes to carry them may have it around. Look for the rectangular boxes seen in the images above — and if you can’t find them, then buy online and save here through PricePlow.

Takeaway

Sure, protein bars have their place, but sometimes a man’s more primal instinct takes over and he just wants pure, meaty goodness — that’s where Ostrim’s diverse line of meat snacks come to the rescue. One’s palate can tire from all the sweetness of typical protein snacks, bars, and cookies, and when those situations arise, that’s the time to grab a snack stick or some flaps of jerky to slay your hunger and keep the protein count high.

We’ve always applauded brands for doing something different, so we cheer to Ostrim’s success of putting some new meats in beef jerky and calling it home with us here in the nutrition segment.
