Nothing beats a massive stack of pancakes for breakfast, but if you’re trying to maintain or achieve a lean and muscular physique, then it can quickly derail your progress. Pancakes are normally loaded with carbohydrates, and although that can be beneficial for fueling a hard training session, it’s not the most optimal meal because of the low protein content.
Plus, people never just have the pancakes! More often than not, they pile on the toppings, such as maple syrup, fruit, whipped cream, and anything else that can make it turn “breakfast” into a “dessert”. This type of meal will quickly spike your blood sugar and insulin levels, and you may feel energized for 30 minutes… but you can kiss fat oxidation goodbye,[1,2] and soon enough you’ll want to take a nap instead of hitting the gym.
We understand that you’re not a robot and it’s perfectly fine to indulge in some treats every once in a while. However, the fitness and supplement industry are constantly releasing new and innovative functional foods that can help satisfy your sweet tooth, while keeping you on track towards your goals.
Myprotein was one of the companies that recognized this trend early on, and quickly got to work producing high protein snacks that also tasted incredible. For example, they released arguably one of the best tasting protein bars on the market, known as the now-discontinued Triple Stack Bar. They were able to make it taste like a real-deal candy bar, but instead of being overloaded with just sugar, it was stacked with 30g of protein! Not to be outdone…
Protein Pancakes That Won’t Destroy Your Physique!
After that massive success in Triple Stack Bar, Myprotein started formulating some more high protein functional foods. And not too long ago, Myprotein’s Protein Pancake Mix was introduced to the US market! Even though this is a newer product, we expect it to be another hot seller – literally! As you’ll see later on, the ingredients, macronutrients, and simplicity of Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix is incredible.
However, everyone is probably wondering what’s the taste, texture, and consistency like? Does it really compare to a homemade sugary stack of flapjacks? Well, you’ll have to keep reading in order to find out! But after you see the macronutrients, no matter what it tastes like, we’re confident that you’ll be intrigued to try it.
Myprotein is well-known for their unmatched prices, quality, and selection, but they also are really hitting it hard in the flavoring department lately. We expect this to be as good as some of the others recently, and are going to be putting Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix to the test soon enough!
In this post, we’re going to give you the macronutrient profile, explain some key benefits about the ingredients, and see how Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix stacks up against some competitors! Protein based pancake mixes are nothing new, but several of them are filled with low quality ingredients. While some may taste great, if the protein source isn’t optimal for lean muscle growth, then you might as well just have normal pancakes and a boring chicken breast at some point. There’s definitely been room for improvement in this category, and we’re hoping Myprotein can help fill the gap!

Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix Macronutrient Profile
Myprotein is known for having incredible macros for all of their protein-based products. For example, their Clear Whey Isolate delivers 80 calories, 20g of protein, less than 1g of carbohydrates, and no sugar or fat! And did we forget to mention, it comes in bold, tasty, and refreshing flavors?!
Myprotein doesn’t sacrifice quality for taste, so you know the macronutrients are always going to be phenomenal. But they also understand that there’s some fierce competition out there that offers great tasting products. And in order to compete, they also make sure the flavors are spot on.
Here’s what two scoops (52.47g) of Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix contains:

Protein Leverage!
This product is what you call protein leveraged. One school of thought with dieters is to keep the amount of protein greater than or equal to the amount of fats and carbs together (this philosophy works best in moderately low-carb diets). This theory is based upon the protein leverage hypothesis.[3]
As you can see here, we have a perfect 1:1 ratio of protein:carbs+fats, which is great for weight loss, satiety, and body composition. But here’s what’s interesting: most “high protein snacks” are not protein leveraged! They often have tons of fat or tons of carbs (or more often both) and can be considered “obesogenic” if you were to eat a lot of them to get your protein numbers high.
Not Myprotein’s Protein Pancakes though!
Just add water!
Beyond that, you’re probably thinking two things based on those macronutrients: first, what needs to be added in order to make the pancakes, and second, how can it taste good with that clean of a macronutrient profile.
What’s great about Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix is that all you need to add is water in order to turn the powder into a batter and start whipping up a stack of pancakes. With the macronutrients being so low in fat compared to many other pancake mixes, it can serve as a great base to add various toppings or additions into the mix that boost the flavor even more. It may say it’s a pancake mix but the possibilities are endless.
Now let’s get into the ingredients that really make Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix stand out!
Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix Ingredients
The macronutrients are impressive but what really puts Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix over the top is its ingredients. A lot of “protein” pancake mixes use very low quality sources of protein, that are essentially just cheap fillers to be used for marketing purposes. Instead Myprotein decided to stick to their guns and formulate a mix that had several ingredients, which are more optimal for an active individual looking to build or maintain muscle.
The main ingredients that make up the majority of Myprotein Protein Pancake mix are: oat flour, whey protein isolate, and microfiltered milk protein. Those three ingredients account for nearly all of the carbs, proteins, and fats. They also add in baking powder, baking soda, and xanthan gum to give the pancakes a fluffy and rich consistency. But that’s it…Myprotein is keeping things very simple with this product and that’s why it has such incredible macros.
Let’s quickly go over some key benefits of the three main ingredients to explain why they’re superior to other options!
-
Whey Protein Isolate
To kick things off let’s start with one of the highest quality protein sources that exist, whey protein isolate (WPI). Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix has 22g total protein and although they don’t list the exact dosages of each ingredient, you can tell from the label that the largest amount of protein is coming from WPI.
This is very advantageous for muscle building since WPI is a minimum 90% protein by weight and is rich in various amino acids, but specifically leucine.[4] This is why WPI is one of the most popular sports nutrition supplements and is utilized by a wide variety of athletes and active individuals to facilitate recovery, hit their daily protein intake, and maximally stimulate muscle protein synthesis for optimal muscle growth.[4] Studies also show that whey protein has a very satiating effect which will help keep you fuller for longer.[5]
Overall, WPI is one of the best protein sources Myprotein could have used and it’s one of the main reasons why the macronutrients are so incredible. WPI is primarily just protein with very little carbs, fats, lactose, or sugars, making it ideal for people looking to improve or maintain a healthy body weight.
The issue is that it’s a thinner consistency. Thankfully, things are about to thicken up:
-
Microfiltered Milk Protein
Microfiltered milk is another excellent protein source because it’s also rich in all nine essential amino acids and has a high leucine content. Several people are familiar with either whey or casein protein, which get created during the cheese making process. But they both actually originate from milk and undergo specific processing that separates them from each other to be used for various things. The casein curds typically get used to make cheese and the liquid whey will get spray dried and turned into a usable powder.
However, in its native state, milk protein consists of 80% casein and 20% whey, so it’s primarily a slower digesting protein source,[6,7] and thicker! Microfiltered simply just means the milk is put through a filter in order to remove unwanted bacteria, fat, lactose, and sugars.[7] Microfiltration can also be used to separate the casein from the whey since they have different molecular sizes.[7]
Myprotein decided to use a mix of fasting digesting (WPI) and slow digesting (milk protein) for this pancake mix because it’s designed to be more of a meal and that will further increase satiety and supply your body with a steady stream of amino acids for a longer period of time.
With the combination of WPI and milk protein, you’re getting a solid amount of high quality protein. And as we mentioned, that’s rare for a protein pancake mix because several other brands use wheat protein, which is far from ideal.
-
Oat Flour
Now that the protein sources are covered, let’s move onto the only source of carbohydrates in Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix, oat flour.
If making a list of legendary combinations in any bodybuilder’s diet, oats and whey protein is definitely on it! Oat flour is a slower digesting carb source, so it will further help increase satiety and will deliver sustained energy, since it won’t cause a huge spike in insulin.
Furthermore, oats can provide several health benefits because they are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, β-glucans, and other bioactive plant compounds.[8,9] Oat consumption has been shown to have a positive effect on cholesterol levels, which can lead to a decreased risk of cardiovascular and heart disease. Oat’s ability to lower LDL levels is mainly attributed to it’s β-glucan content.[8,9]
Lastly, oats contain a high amount of a polyphenol known as avenanthramides, which offer additional health benefits since they’re anti-inflammatory, anti-itch, and have the ability to boost nitric oxide (NO) production.[10,11] Enhanced NO production causes the blood vessels to vasodilate, allowing for more blood flow to be circulated throughout the body. This is just another reason why oats can improve heart health and may decrease the risk of various cardiovascular disorders.[10,11]
Available Flavors
As of writing this post, there is only an unflavored version of Myprotein Protein Pancake Mix. And that gives you a good base to work from, since you can easily add your own flavors to create your own custom stack. Myprotein also offers FlavDrops, which are calorie free sweeteners that would be a great addition!
But don’t be surprised if Myprotein eventually starts offering more flavors, such as chocolate, maple, or cinnamon. Quality comes first for Myprotein, and then perhaps more flavors can launch. The list below will automatically add any new flavors that get released:
Final Thoughts: Myprotein Continues to Attack!
Myprotein is a leader in the supplement industry and you can tell by their name that they dominate all things “protein”. Their Protein Pancake Mix has some of the best and simplest macronutrients and ingredients we’ve seen yet, it will definitely help crush your cravings and fitness goals. MyproteinUS’ entrance into functional foods over the past few years has been very impressive, but is unsurprising given the massive amount of protein treats they have in Europe. Even though their protein snack selection for the US is still quite limited, they’ve been adding more products left and right.
We’re excited to see what they have in store for the future, because they value quality just as much if not more than taste. And here at PricePlow, we really respect that because high quality ingredients are most important to us as well. Myprotein continues to dominate the market by releasing several innovative products. Who knows what they will introduce to the US next, but whatever it is, we know they spent a lot of time ensuring it stands out from the competitors.
Myprotein also has some of the best prices around since they control every part of manufacturing and primarily sell directly to the consumer (especially with our coupon!). This helps them keep the costs low, while making sure the purity, quality, safety, and efficacy are closely regulated. With how successful Myprotein has been in the UK, it’s not surprising that they’re killing it in the States as well. There’s so much room for growth here, and we cannot wait to share all they have planned with you!
