What is Amnes1a?

Amnes1a is a capsule-based sleep aid that bolsters a sizable four capsule serving size. That’s large, but a capsule-based product is more practical at night, since powders require water and some of us don’t want a ton of water before bed.

You know you’re going to get something new from the Heroes at Olympus Labs, but first we start off with one that everyone needs to get enough of:

  • Magnesium Aspartate (133mg) – 32% of DV

    With this dose of magnesium, you’re getting enough to move you to an optimal range if your diet is in check, but not so much to send you to the bathroom. Magnesium is well-known as a sleep optimizer and anxiety-reducer (or more importantly, a lack of magnesium causes anxiety). It will help you fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up feeling more rested.[1-2] In addition, those that are deficient in magnesium may experience a small boost in natural testosterone production.[3]

    Don’t shake your head too much at the “low” dose here — magnesium takes up a ton of space and Olympus is making room for the fun stuff by keeping the magnesium dose per serving on the lower side. If you need more magnesium in your day, then you can add some, but the point is to get around 450mg via diet and supplementation total.

  • Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (500mg)

    Saccharomyces cerevisiae, or Sake Yeast, is a yeast used to prepare sake and other traditional Japanese dishes. Recent research has shown that Sake Yeast may be an effective sleep-bolstering supplement. It does so by acting as an adenosine A2a receptor agonist.[4] By activating this specific adenosine receptor, sake yeast can help induce quality sleep.

    The study cited above was a double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study with 68 participants. They took either 500mg Saccharomyces Cerevisiae (the dose we have here in Amnes1a) or placebo (cellulose) an hour before sleep and recorded their electroencephalograms with a portable home device. It turns out that the SC group increased delta power during the first cycle of slow wave sleep by 110%! This signifies depeer, stronger sleep signals.

    Sake Yeast may also even lead to higher levels in growth hormone in the blood through its sleep bolstering qualities,[4,5] and you know that’s something Olympus Labs loves (they added GABA to their Superior Protein Powder Muscle Building Edition).

  • Valeriana officinalis (0.8% Valerenic Acid) (450mg)

    Valeriana officinalis, often seen as valerian root, is a supplement you may recognize in name. Valerian tea is often consumed for its sedative qualities — so it only makes sense that the supplement industry would use it in sleep-improving products. Interestingly enough, the current research shows that Valerian is great for inducing sleep.

    For falling fast asleep

    While it may help induce sleep, it may not help improve sleep quality, so we’ll need help from the other ingredients. The research is mixed on whether valerian affects deep sleep or sleep quality.[6-8] However, the other ingredients in Amnes1a more than make up for this fault, and many look to buying sleeps because they have trouble falling asleep anyway, so this is a go-to ingredient for those purposes. The dose is right in the sweet spot we like for Valerian.

  • Melissa Officinalis (leaves) (min. 5% rosmarinic acid) (300mg)

    Also known as Lemon Balm, Melissa officinalis is by far our most underrated sleep supplement ingredient. This alone makes it worth trying.

    Melissa leaves induce calmness[22,23] and decreases anxiety.[24,25] Even better, it might improve cognition for stressed-out individuals – but we’re not really focusing on that right now.

    Most of the studies relate to stress and anxiety, but one study shows an improvement in falling asleep as well.[24] Other successful studies have lemon balm combined with valerian root[25], which is a ‘confound’ but not really, because we have that here in Amnes1a too!

    The main component is rosmarinic acid,[26] which is what Olympus Labs is standardizing for. However, there are other compounds such as caffeic acid and melitric acid[27] involved in the process too.

    Way underrated ingredient!

    Anecdotally, lemon balm knocks me out quite well when needed. Combining this with valerian and everything else here is a fantastic idea.

    Even better – 300mg is the clinical dose[22,23] – although you can add more (it’s an inexpensive ingredient) if you need to – it’s been studied up to 1.5g!

  • Dioscorea japonica (rhizomes)(extracted for Dioscin) (300mg)

    Dioscorea japonica is the second part of Amnes1a that sets it apart from the competition. This is an East Asian mountain yam native to Japan, Korea, and China. Dioscin, the compound we’re using Dioscorea japonica to get to, may help stimulate growth hormone release.[10] More growth hormone means more recovery and lean body mass development, so we’re excited to give this a shot and take some of this dioscin!

    Valerian Research

    Valerian outperformed placebo in ill patients (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Overall Score, AUC).

    In addition, Dioscin may also act a potent immune bolstering agent and antioxidant.[11,12] However, manage your expectations on new ingredients. This is the first we’ve heard of Dioscin as a growth hormone modulator. While we like the research so far, we’re remaining conservative.

  • Passion Flower Extract (300mg)

    Passion Flower is a herb that has been used throughout the Americas for centuries now — especially as a cure for insomnia. The current research on Passion Flower supports it use as an anxiolytic agent that may also help relieve chronic stress. It improves these conditions by enhancing the level of GABA in the body.[14,15] If you had to ask us, we’d guess that sleep improvements connected to Passion Fruit are secondary to its anxiolytic benefits,[16] so this is one for those who are still anxious even after getting magnesium levels in check.

  • L-Theanine (100mg)


    Sleep like a KING

    L-Theanine is one of the most well-known relaxation inducing ingredients in the sports nutrition industry lately. While companies often pair L-theanine with caffeine as a powerful nootropic combo, L-theanine can help induce calmness and relaxation on its own.[17] Coming from green tea leaves, it’s a well-researched ingredient with a low risk of side effects, so its inclusion is an easy decision in any well-formulated sleep product.

    There’s no connection between sleep quality and theanine, but this should get you in the right head space before falling asleep. No complaints about the dose here, as it feels just right.

  • KannaEase (25mg)

    Now this is what we’re talking about – a mood booster and sleep habit enhancer all in one!

    KannaEase is an ingredient we last saw in the Black Magic edition of I Am Suprem3, Perhaps better known as Kanna or Sceletium Tortuosum, KannaEase acts as a selective phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor. By inhibiting PDE-4, KannaEase increases the amount of cAMP bouncing around in cells. This increase in cAMP improves both mood and sleep habits after supplementation.[18] It earns the “Ease” part of its name, as it helps consumers cope with daily stress.[19]

    KannaEase is an extract standardized to NLT 0.5% alkaloids and 0.2% mesembrine.

    With this ingredient, the plan is to get situated and never go to bed angry again!

  • Melatonin (3mg)

    Yes, it really took that many ingredients to get to melatonin. As longtime PricePlow readers know, melatonin is a hormone that helps induce quality sleep when supplemented.[20] It’s a well-studied and safe compound that’s been in use for decades now.

    While melatonin is well known for its impact on sleep onset, recent research has shown it to be a decent way of curing/preventing jet lag as well![21] 3mg is a nice dose when compared to Amnes1a’s competition. The question is what dose you like best, but 3mg is the standard go-to in most melatonin supplements. However, note that doses as low as 0.5mg have been shown to be effective — this one comes down to personal preference, but nobody should be surprised by 3mg.

Dosing – Take before bed!

Obviously you take it before bed, but how long before bed? It actually works best if you take it 1-2 hours before bed!! This gives your body time to adjust down and get into the right “headspace” to wind down.

So it’ll go better with a bit of planning – which is also great for forcing you to turn off that phone and get to bed! Take it at 9pm, be in bed with a paper book at 10pm, and fast asleeps at 10:30pm. Perfect!

Conclusion: Amnes1a Brings New Bedtime Boosters to Try

Amnes1a is one of the most stacked “sleeping pills” we’ve ever seen. While it has three ‘new’ ingredients that sets it apart from the competition, Amnes1a also offers massive doses of traditional ingredients like Passion Flower and Valerian. We love the mix of these herbal ingredients with some trusted ‘chemical compounds’ like magnesium and melatonin.

Further, we’re happy that Olympus Labs stuck with their muscle-building-friendly ways in producing a sleep aid with multiple ingredients connected to the release of growth hormone (GH). This is nothing new for the brand, and they love to find ways to get your body producing more of the powerful amino acid.

By combining innovation and tradition into one product, Olympus Labs may have conquered the sleep corner of the market for the foreseeable future. The only gripe we have with Amnes1a is its use of Blue #1 as a coloring agent – something I’ve always been a bit sensitive to.

Despite this minor shortcoming, Amnes1a is well worth a shot if you suffer from sleep deprivation and are looking for something new and unique.
