Big news for everyone who was a big fan of the OxyELITE Pro series of fat burners! USPLabs has launched their next generation thermogenic weight loss pill, EpiBURN Pro.

This comes hot off the heels of AminoLIFT[1,2], their amino-based pre workout supplement. 2014 is looking like a major year for USP after all.

See below for a very detailed ingredient analysis. Overall, this looks like a winner. But first:

The ingredients are now out – you can see them in the image to the right.

Ingredient Summary / TL;DR

EpiBURN Pro Ingredients

The EpiBURN Pro Ingredients

Overall, we really like this product’s label.

It’s going to be tough to replace the original OxyELITE Pro – DMAA is impossible to replace, and it was simply a phenomenal product.

That said, USPLabs just might have done it, or at least came closer than anyone else has. Every ingredient in EpiBURN is effective. They took no chances on anything here.

To replace DMAA, the first ingredient will provide several of the benefits that users of DMAA loved, and a few of the other ingredients fill in the other gaps.

Our biggest question is whether there’s going to be a proper amount of yohimbe and forskohlii in here. If there is, this is a rock star formula. Since we don’t have access to the blend, we’ll have to wait and see for ourselves.

Our recommendation: based upon the label, this is worth trying. We’ll have a full review after we receive ours, and everyone else can sign up for price drop alerts here at PricePlow.

Update: Epi-Burn has made it into our fat burner buyer’s guide, The Best Fat Burner… for YOU! and the new Top 10 Fat Burners list! Check them out to see where it stands!

Now for the details below:

Each bottle has 90 capsules (with a dosage of 2-3 caps per day). In each capsule:

  • 100mg Caffeine

This is the reasonable amount of caffeine that most responsible thermogenic fat burner manufacturers have been including lately.

    EpiBURN Pro Advanced Formula

    The official bottle image

The research shows that 100-200mg of caffeine is the perfect amount to begin turnover in your system.[5] It’s a stimulant and it speeds your metabolic processes up.

That said, caffeine doesn’t do everything under the sun, and is not the most potent fat burner out there. It gets you going, but doesn’t necessarily burn tons of fat on its own – it needs the supporting cast (below) for that.

When it comes to performance, more is not not better. 200mg performs the same as 400mg (yet 400mg just brings more side effects).[6]

So while other companies are loading up insane dosages of caffeine so that you can “feel” it, it’s not really doing anything extra for you.

But what do USPLabs’ customers want?

With all of this in mind, we still wonder if the max dosage of 300mg caffeine per day will be enough. After all USP’s customers are still thinking about the old OxyELITE Pro, which was quite stimulant heavy.

The answer to that question is — it depends on the supporting cast. We’ll investigate these below, but the top ingredient is extremely promising in bringing back that awesome feeling that OxyELITE used to have.

Update: Our initial opinion is that this product has plenty of stim-feel to it. You don’t need much more caffeine!

  • 213mg Proprietary Blend

    • Withania Somnifera (root) Extract

Otherwise known as ashwagandha, this is a complex but extremely promising adaptogenic ingredient that doesn’t get enough attention.

It helps regulate many of your processes that are “off” or out of balance, which happens frequently when we’re dieting.

      Withania’s benefits include:

      1. Body composition improvements

        Withania Somnifera Reduces Anxiety

Ashwagandha (blue line) reduces anxiety quickly and dramatically, especially when combined with relaxation techniques (pink control line)… and it burns bodyfat while it’s at it!

Most studies on ashwagandha are actually about reducing anxiety and improving cardiovascular system health.

However, a couple of the anti-anxiety studies actually recorded significant amounts of weight loss even though they weren’t even dieting and the researchers weren’t “aiming” for weight loss![8,9]

Now imagine what you can do when you are focused on your diet, and get the extra benefits listed below to boot!

      2. Better endurance and physical performance through improved VO2max

A study on young adults of both sexes, age 18-29, showed that ashwagandha improved sprint power output and velocity. VO2max was boosted without negatively affecting blood pressure.[7]

This means that you’ll get better cardio with this in EpiBURN, and it just might help make up for the lost DMAA from the original OxyELITE Pro, which provided incredible performance benefits.

Meanwhile, another study on men also measured the VO2max improvements, but also improved time to total exhaustion.[10]

If you feel like your body can’t keep up with your brain in terms of workout length and endurance, get ready for a nice boost here. The study had a 7.2% increase in time to exhaustion.

      3. Improved cardiovascular effects

The studies discussed above and below (on performance and on anxiety) also noted that systolic blood pressure also lowered.[11] It was safe for the young adults studied.[7]

      4. Anxiety Reduction

This is actually where ashwagandha really shines, and even though we’re most excited about the effects mentioned above, you can’t overlook this… especially if you get moody when dieting or anxious when using stimulants.

Withania somnifera is shown to be anxiolytic, especially when you are under stressful situations. One study on adults of all ages showed that ashwagandha reduced serum cortisol by 27.9%.[12]

Cortisol can be brought on by all sorts of situations – dieting is definitely one of them.

Meanwhile, social anxiety also goes down. We’re not here to talk about that stuff – but the point is, these studies worked, and they also yielded the incredible weight-loss finds that we’re most excited about.

In the end, we’re happy to see this in a fat burner – nobody else seems to be doing it – so you’re definitely not going to get the “same ol same ol” with EpiBURN Pro.

You’re going to feel good from this stuff.

    • Olea Europaea (leaf) Extract

Olive Leaf Extract and its Benefits on Blood Glucose and Insulin

Olive Leaf Extract and its Benefits on Blood Glucose and Insulin[15]

Also known as as olive leaf extract, studies performed on Olea Europaea are showing a whole range of benefits when it comes to important diet markers such as

      • LDL cholesterol oxidation[13],
      • lowering total cholesterol[13],
      • lowering blood pressure (as much as certain prescription drugs!)[14],
      • increasing insulin sensitivity[15], and
      • lowering overall blood glucose levels[15].

It’s always been known that olive oil is very healthy – but this is the extract that’s the reason why.

Many of the studies, including those cited above, used pure olive oil as a control. The compounds from Olea Europaea extract perform better, because you can get far more of the good stuff than what you’d normally get from a serving of olive oil.

For good reason, it’s included in many new fat burners from the past few years.

    • Yohimbe (Pausinystalia Johimbe) (bark) Extract

In our opinion, the dosages of this ingredient (yohimbe) and the next ingredient (forskohlii) are the make it or break it combo for EpiBURN. Since it’s a proprietary formula, the only way to find out is to try it.

USPLabs is world-class when it comes to extracting the fat-burning components from yohimbe will leaving behind any parts that may provide residual side effects. We are very confident that this will indeed be a clean-feeling yohimbe.

With that said, it’s pretty high up in the label, so we’re really excited to see how much we can feel this.

      Yohimbe’s Benefits

Nobody is going to dispute that yohimbe is a serious fat-burning compound.

EpiBURN Pro - The wait is over!

      The wait is over!

      1. Stimulates incredibly well[16,17]
      2. Burns fat in a different way than normal – by blocking your “fat release blockers” (it’s an alpha-2 adrenoreceptor antagonist)[18,20]
      3. Surpresses appetite[19], and
      4. is even an aphrodisiac!

The question comes down to dosage and cleanliness. We need to try it to find out and will report back to you with our review… but no company has put out more yohimbe extracts than USPLabs over the past decade. They know what they’re doing here.

That said, if you have a yohimbe allergy, you’ll probably need to stay away, or break a capsule open and slowly work up tolerance from 1/4 cap and up.

    • Coleus Forskohlii (root) Extract

Also known as forskolin, this Indian herb has been coming on strong in the weight loss supplement community over the past years. It’s potent fat-loss abilities are quite noticeable, yet the most official research is still forthcoming.

Forskolin Benefits - Mild regional fat loss for most users, even without a workout routine

This chart shows that even without a workout routine, forskolin provides mild regional fat loss for most users.[20]

Forskohlii works by increasing cAMP levels, which then boosts energy output, provide anti-inflammatory effects, and even increase testosterone in men.

Some of the key Forskohlii benefits:
      • Body mass index reduction[20],
      • Regional fat loss in women (the thighs!)[21],
      • Overall body composition changes – more lean muscle mass yet less bodyfat[22]

Meanwhile, the studies above also showed that forskohlii improves bone density and provides small improvements to testosterone levels in men, both of which are significant for overall health.

This makes it one of the better “supporting cast” ingredients that most fat burners still don’t have, since it works differently from anything else in the product.

    • Nelumbo Nucifera (seed) Extract

Although we’re not 100% sure what USPLabs is doing with nelumbo, we can safely assume that they’re extracting this for higenamine, also known as norcoclaurine.

USP was the first major company to use this incredibly beneficial and safe stimulant (in their Jack3d Micro pre workout), and since then, a massive slew of research has come out, and you won’t find too many new fat burners without it lately.

      Higenamine vs. Synephrine

Higenamine works very similarly to synephrine… but is much safer!

Higenamine is a very effective beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic antagonist[23,24] — this means that it stimulants a slight “fight or flight” response in your system by triggering a small release of epinephrine from your sympathetic nerves.

The beta-2 chain reaction then performs several energy-producing steps that ultimate mobilize / free up fatty acids for your use.

Our bodies hold on to fat for emergency situations, such as those needed when you’re in that fight or flight mode. Higenamine releases them for your workouts.

      Extremely Safe

Although this sounds a bit scary, it’s not at all. Time after time, this stimulant has proven itself to be very safe and well-tolerated.[26]

Not only that, but it doesn’t raise any of the negative cardiovascular markers like heart rate or systolic blood pressure.[25] This goes along with the cardiovascular health effects from several of the ingredients above – gone are the days of fat burners giving you jittery scares. There’s a better way to burn fat now.

If you’re feeling some thermogenic heat from this product, higenamine is definitely one of the ingredients responsible. It’s quite thermogenic.

Unlike some of the other ingredients in EpiBURN Pro, this one needs you to work out in order for it to actually work. Otherwise those freed up fatty acids will just reattach to your fat stores.

This shouldn’t be a problem, because we expect you to follow a thorough, doctor-approved diet and exercise program when using any supplement we recommend.

That closes up the ingredient discussion, minus the other ingredients of gelatin (not sure if it’s vegetarian, bovine, or what), silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, titanium dioxide, and FD&C Blue #2 for that cool blue cap coloring!

    Recommended Dosage

The picture below says it all:

    EpiBURN Pro Dosage

The Suggested Dosage. At “max” dose, this will last you one month.

It’s pretty standard for a fat burner:

    • 1 capsule before breakfast on an empty stomach…
but you can bump it up to 2 morning caps after assessing dosage
    • 1 capsule 5-6 hours later

We recommend trying to time this up so that you get to take it before working out. However, that might not work if you do late night workouts. Taking any stimulant too late will cause you a loss of sleep.

    Cycling recommendations

As with their other fat burners, USP recommends you go 8 weeks on, 4 weeks off.

Drink plenty of water while using it, and don’t take other stimulants like coffee, tea, soda, or other pre workout supplements.

Update: In the full-quality version of the image below, we can see some ingredients!

Note: OxyELITE Pro is still available!

Note: OxyELITE Pro and the OxyELITE Pro “new formula” are still sold, just at high prices and in low stock.

See the links above to grab the original OEP – once they’re gone, they’re gone.

Peaking at the ingredients through the marketing pic…

    1. The first ingredient is likely withania somnifera, commonly known as ashwagandha,
    2. nelumbo nucifera is shown on the bottom line (which likely provides higenamine), and
    3. the bark extracts are probably going to be yohimbe and/or lodhra

    Some guesses and discussion

Knowing that they have to follow up with a major success in the original OEP, it’s likely to have a few new things and will need to really get users focused and heated up.

We all know there’s no DMAA, but USP’s customers still crave any type of feeling that is similar. If they can deliver even a little bit, it will be a resounding success.

With the name “Epi” in it, we’re hoping for some high beta-2 adrenergic boosting activity that gets your natural epinephrine / adrenaline going.

Our guess? A higher stim competitor to PES Norcodrene, which is currently one of our top two favorite fat burners. Norcodrene rocks, but the 100mg of caffeine may not be enough for most USP/OxyELITE customers, who really want to feel it.

    Info on EpiBURN’s Release Date
