5-time Mr. Olympia Classic Physique champion Chris Bumstead has been crushing it with Raw Nutrition, with recent pre-workout releases like CBum Essential Pre-Workout and Thuper Thavage. But aside from pre-workouts, he also has an energy drink brand resting on the other end of the energy spectrum — it’s the highly acclaimed BUM Energy.
Normally, energy drinks are an arms race to see who can pack the most caffeine and other ingredients into a single can. Refusing to bend to orthodoxy, CBum took a different approach – BUM Energy has just two active ingredients: Cognizin and caffeine, with just 112 milligrams of caffeine, naturally sourced!
Since then, RAW has released some epic flavors of BUM Energy – like Peach Mango and Citrus Burst – but none have been quite as exciting as this one:
BUM Energy: ROOT BEER!
That’s right: we now have a root beer flavored energy drink. Root beer is a classic soda flavor, and nothing hits the spot quite like a nice cold one on a hot summer’s day.
We’re going to dive into a little summary on how BUM Energy works, but first, let’s check PricePlow for good BUM deals, and check out our video review of the new flavor:

BUM Energy – Active Ingredients
As stated above, BUM Energy is beautifully simple, with just two active ingredients and 5 calories per can. This simplicity allows the full flavor profile to come through.
Here are the two key ingredients in BUM Energy:
-
Cognizin Citicoline – 250mg
Also known as CDP-Choline and formulated by Kyowa Hakko, Cognizin is a form of choline that’s noted for its high efficacy cognition support. It plays a critical role in the repair of cellular membranes and is a precursor to acetylcholine, which is also referred to as the “learning neurotransmitter”.
Citicoline can significantly improve attention, mental energy, and focus. Cognizin has clinical trials supporting use at both 250 milligrams and 500 milligrams — meaning you can get some incredible results with just one or two cans per day… and two cans won’t put you over the edge because of the next dose:
-
Natural caffeine – 112mg
With a naturally sourced form of caffeine that’s not dosed too high, this supports a kick of energy (through the inhibition of adenosine), but avoids unwanted side effects such as jitters and anxiety that often accompany heavy consumption of caffeine anhydrous.
At just 112 milligrams of caffeine, the dose is on the low side and is roughly equivalent to a cup of coffee. Depending on your metabolism, you can have one in the afternoon and hopefully not wreck your sleep… and if you use it early in the day, you can still stack other caffeine sources safely!

When you need a boost
While there are times in which what we really need is a major kick to get going, we often just need a little boost. BUM Energy is a perfect pick-me-up. It has roughly the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, but you get more flavor variability when a coffee doesn’t sound appealing – such as on a hot summer day.
We’ve been wanting a root beer flavored energy drink for a while, and CBum and RAW delivered, as usual. It is the perfect way to get our fix without chugging down tons of sugar and wrecking our macro targets.
