The Macronutrients

Quest has posted the official release video[4], and you can hear the following macros:

Quest Protein Chip Ingredients (Sea Salt)

The Ingredients / Nutrition Facts for Sea Salt

  • 120 Calories

  • 21g protein

  • 5g carbs

  • 1.5-2g fat

(1.5g for Sea Salt, 2g fat for BBQ and Cheddar & Sour Cream)

The Ingredients

Sea salt are made from the following:

Protein Blend (Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), Dried Potatoes, Corn Starch, High Oleic Sunflower Oil. Contains less than 2% of the following: Sea Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavors.

Note that there’s no soy and they’re gluten-free.

They’re also baked, never fried, in case you were worried about fat content.

So unlike other Quest products, the carbs are coming from dried potatoes and corn starch, whereas the protein is mainly milk protein isolate based (which typically has 80% casein) followed by whey protein isolate.

Looks very solid!

The flavors

These are macros of the gods

Quest’s Facebook thread[1] is loaded with some awesome suggestions:

  • Quest chips? (← ding ding ding! the winner!)
  • Quest pretzels?
  • “Obviously it’s Quest bacon” (our favorite comment)
  • Improved Quest peanut butter cups?
  • Quest Brownies?
  • Quest pizza crust?
  • Quest crackers?
  • Quest cookies?
  • Quest gummies?

The industry pundits weigh in

Stack3d thinks it’s going to be protein chips[2], but what do you think?

Our guess? Quest Protein Chips made from WHEY

Our hopes are that they’ll be protein chips, but like their Bars, they’ll contain high-quality whey protein, not soy protein.

Protein chips and protein pretzels are nothing new or special. But they’re all made from soy – an ingredient that many consider to be too unnatural to the human body. In our niche of the nutrition industry, soy does not sell especially well, especially to the men.

If Quest can make something palatable with whey in it, then you can nearly guarantee a home run. Clearly it’s a challenge because nobody else is doing it. But that hasn’t stopped them before!

Some other stuff from Quest

Below on this page, you’ll see our PricePlow widget for Quest Nutrition, which contains their other products. Of note are:

  • Quest Bars

No explanation needed. If you haven’t had these, you’re missing out.

  • Quest Cravings

This includes their absolutely phenomenal peanut butter cups. They’re a bit drier and denser than Reese’s peanut butter cups, but wow they are the next closest thing.

  • Quest Pasta

This is only carried at one store we list, so we’re not sure if they’re really new or on their way out. They’re still listed on Quest’s official site so they’re probably still good.

Note that these are made from glucomannan, a soluble fiber. There are several other low-carb / fiber-carb pastas that use this ingredient.
