Fade Out Ingredients

True to the brand’s pledge, Fade Out contains a completely open label, leaving nothing to the imagination or fears of “pixie dusting” ingredients. There’s also no artificial colors, like in all of RedCon1’s supplements.

When we say this thing is loaded, we’re not kidding! You’ll find just about every common sleep aid in here, and then some – but the first ingredient might be the one you want to research the most.

  • Phenibut (1g)

    RedCon1 has crammed a lot of beneficial ingredients into Fade Out, but oh my that Phenibut dose is HUGE!

    Also labeled as 4-amino-3-phenylbutyric acid, phenibut is an extremely potent, yet somewhat controversial ingredient in sleep formulas. It was originally developed in Soviet Russia to treat anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and it works damned well at that. Phenibut is a GABA analogue that functions as a central nervous system depressant. It works so well because it crosses the blood-brain-barrier.

    The feeling from phenibut is best described as “tranquilizing”.

    The main reason we say controversial, is that phenibut is very addictive[1,2] for some individuals, and known to have miserable withdrawal symptoms for more than a few.

    Dosing strategy – be smart here!

    It’s typically used to for its ability to provide a relaxed, but sharp feeling[3] (some users get nootropic effects from it when dosed lightly). Typically, doses start around 250mg and can work their way up to 1g, but much more than that gets risky.[4,5]

    This is why it’s already hugely important to follow the label and start with half a scoop. In talking to users around the industry, the “addictiveness” is not as much of an issue when it comes to using it as a sleep supplement — daytime users are the ones who get caught in that trap more frequently. Also note that this should not be mixed with any prescription drugs or even alcohol!!

    Remember the OG Resurrect PM?

    For those of you who are huge fans of sleep aids, the original Ronnie Coleman Signature Series Resurrect PM had a 500mg dose of phenibut in it.

    So right off the bat, seeing phenibut dosed so highly leads us to believe two things:

    1. RedCon1 isn’t messing around here
    2. Be extremely careful with your dosing – start light, and don’t use it every night.
  • Mucuna Pruriens (1g)

    Mucuna Pruriens, a.k.a. velvet bean is frequently used for its growth hormone boosting properties due to its primary constituent, L-Dopa. Interestingly enough, Mucuna extracts that are standardized for 50% L-Dopa have improved sleep according to anecdotal accounts. But, there isn’t much research to back up those accounts.

    However, mucuna has been shown to reduce stress via lowering cortisol levels[6], and may provide some sedative abilities if taken during the day.[7]

    More likely though, you’ll probably receive greater GH benefits from this ingredient than anything else!

  • GABA (1g)

    Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) is the body’s “downer” neurotransmitter that imparts a rather strong “depressive” effect to the body allowing users to fall asleep faster than they typically would.

    Supplemental GABA (not the natural form described above), has been shown to increase alpha waves and decrease beta waves[8], which is a great thing. Alpha waves are the “deep relaxation” waves in the brain, while the beta waves are linked to consciousness and reasoning.This is a good thing – alpha waves are the deep relaxation waves, while beta waves are the waking consciousness and reasoning waves

  • L-Arginine HCl (1g)

    Male or female, it doesn’t matter. RedCon1 helps you crush it over and again in the weight room, just like Cass Martin

    L-Arginine is most commonly seen as a component of pump formulas for its perceived ability to increase nitric oxide production, but has conclusively been shown not to be the case.[9] However, that doesn’t mean the amino acid is without its uses.

    One review concluded that Arginine is the best “anti-aging” amino acid around, going so far as to say the “anti-aging benefits of l-arginine show promises greater than any pharmaceutical or nutraceutical agent ever previously discovered.”[10]

    That same study also found that the group supplementing with Arginine experience much deeper sleep as well as reductions in stress and nervousness. Other research into the amino acid has found that it stimulates Growth Hormone release by suppressing somatostatin release.[11]

  • Phenylalanine (750mg)

    Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid primarily used in the biosynthesis of the tyrosine. Once converted to tyrosine, the brain uses the new amino acid to create several “feel good” chemicals in the brain including dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine.

    Phenylalanine users note a slight euphoric feeling when using the amino acid, due to its role as a tyrosine precursor, and it’s even been used to treat depression.[12] Other research has noted a strong GH release from phenylalanine supplementation that’s independent of the pathways used by Arginine to also stimulate GH release.[13]

  • Valerian Root (600mg)

    This is where RedCon1’s Fade Out turns into true beast mode. When analyzing the best sleep aids in the past, we noticed that most products stay either 100% synthetic ingredient based (like the above compounds and amino acids), or 100% herbal (using things like this valerian, hops, etc). But why do so few of them mix the best of both worlds???

    Valerian Research

    Valerian outperformed placebo in ill patients (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Overall Score, AUC), but not by as much as some would have hoped for.

    We’re not sure, but RedCon1 made it happen by adding this fantastic flower root extract to their mix of compounds.

    A common component in herbal teas brewed to enhance relaxation, Valerian root also finds its way into many sleep formulas for its sedative qualities.

    Various trials have tried to pinpoint or quantify valerian root’s exact effects on sleep, and while they’ve determine it’s good for falling asleep, but as far as other effects in regards to deeper or better quality sleep, the results are mixed at best.[14,15,16]

  • L-Theanine (500mg)

    Theanine is commonly found in tea leaves (Camellia sinensis), and is one of the fasting growing supplements around. You can literally find it everywhere, from sleep formulas to pre workouts!

    When used in conjunction with caffeine, it greatly enhances caffeine’s focus-boosting properties, as well as help “take the edge off” of  higher dose caffeine-based supplements (i.e. pre workouts).

    In terms of sleep, theanine extract induces an incredible calming, relaxing sensation when used in isolation.[18,19] Interestingly enough, one study at least shows consuming the amino acid does result in higher quality of sleep.[20] Now, that study was done on boys with ADHD, so if you don’t have ADHD, the experience may not be as noticeable.

    Still, Mike’s a big fan of this ingredient when it’s dosed less than caffeine, and has found great benefit from it, especially in some of our favorite pre workouts.

    With all that said… we’ve never seen anywhere near this dose! Remember that you’re likely to half-dose Fade Out due to the high amount of phenibut, but even then, 250mg is still huge (and expensive)!

  • Melatonin (5mg)

    Congrats to RedCon1 athlete Dallas McCarver for his 8th place finish at the 2016 Olympia!

    No sleep formula is complete without a hit of melatonin, the hormone produced during light cycles that helps normalize sleep patterns. This is one of the more powerful sleep inducers in Fade Out as various trials have shown it’s helped combat insomnia with success.[21,22]

    The “problem” with melatonin supplementation is figuring out the right dose for you, as research shows success with doses ranging for 0.5mg up to 10mg![23,24] But, don’t necessarily think this means that “more is better.”

    A collection of the the best studies show 2-3mg to be the “sweet spot” for improving sleep[25,26], this is also the reason why 3mg is the most common dose you’ll encounter among the numerous sleep aids on the market.

  • The rest

    Rounding out the remaining ingredients of Fade Out is a collection of vitamins and minerals to supply the body with the required nutrients to carry out the necessary repair and recovery processes that take place while we sleep.

    • 150mg Magnesium Citrate – Magnesium is vastly underrated when it comes to  sleep, and if you’re not getting enough in the day, you may want to add far more supplementally. We discuss the various kinds in our best magnesium article, but safe to say that magnesium citrate seems to be the best in terms of value and effectiveness.
    • 100mg Vitamin C
    • 10mg Zinc Sulfate
    • 6mg Vitamin B6
    • 10IU Vitamin E

    Note that above, you’re going to see a “partial ZMA” mix here — the Zinc, Magnesium, and Vitamin B6 are the three main constituents of ZMA, although the true ZMA doses are higher – especially magnesium. But given that this mix creates fantastic sleep, mainly due to magnesium, it will help.

    And for those of you who get vivid dreams from ZMA, that’s actually from the Vitamin B6, as reported in two different studies![27,28]

    Mike’s Mini-Review

    First off, let me say that I don’t have trouble sleeping and don’t normally use these products. So I’m not a candidate for the best reviewer, although I think CJ will love this for a YouTube.

    My first use was actually 65% scoop (I used a food scale but dumped a touch too much in). I slept nine hours, which is unheard of for me. I woke up absolutely fine, only disappointed that I was behind on the day already. Some of you are going to LOVE this.

    I don’t think I knew what I was in for here. Half scoop at MOST for me. You sleep supplement experts are going to love this though.

    The next two tries, I got to bed at a reasonable hour, used only half a scoop, and it worked like a charm. Within 30 minutes I’m as good as gone.

    This is my first time using phenibut — I’ve always avoided it because of the addiction potential, but I realized I don’t have an addictive personality and am not really worried about that. The stuff is clearly a difference maker, I’ve never been conked that hard outside of two-a-days in high school.

    Regarding flavor, Black Currant seems to be the flavor to get. In talking on Twitter with @Zechy68 it seems that he doesn’t like orange as much, but I liked black currant more each time.

    I’m also trying to use as little water as possible because I don’t want to have to use the restroom in the middle of the night, but in that same thread, you can see that Guerilla Chemist has a fantastic idea of taking glycerol alongside this to retain the water and not have to hit the bathroom!! So if that becomes an issue, look into adding some glycerol monostearate.

    Anyway, this isn’t my area of expertise, but I have a feeling y’all are going to love this stuff – especially for those of you who missed the OG Resurrect PM.

    This seems like a great value. Anything over 0,5 scoops is overkill.
