ProSupps MyBar: Protein Bar that’s BETTER Than a Candy Bar!

ProSupps MyBar

ProSupps, the makers of the high energy pre workout Hyde, have decided to toss their hat into the protein bar market with the release of MyBar.

The protein bar market has gotten out of control lately. Absolutely out of control.

We don’t mind that every major brand has released a bar in the past year or two, attempting to compete with Quest Bars. But what we do mind is that every one of these products is nearly exactly the same. Quest Bar knock-off after Quest Bar knock-off.

So when we see a company take a completely different approach, we get excited. And when we tasted the ProSupps MyBar, we got even more excited, because this thing is literally better-tasting than a candy bar — and it has 20g protein to boot!!!

ProSupps MyBar: An all-out market attack on taste

As the latest company to attack the protein bar market, ProSupps is taking it a different direction with MyBar – full-on taste. It may be not be the “cleanest” bar around, but many of us really don’t care about that. It was launched during winter bulking season after all!

In short, ProSupps has made it their mission to make the tastiest bar available, and from our preliminary taste test, we think they’ve succeeded.

The team taste-tested the four flavors and downright loved them — and also came to a pretty easy consensus on the best ones:

MyBar Ingredients

Taking a look at the ingredient list of MyBar, you’ll see it’s pretty far removed from being one of the cleanest bars, like Bhu Fit Bars or Venture Bars, but it’s still relatively low in fillers and as an added bonus, it’s soy protein-free, gluten-free, and trans-fat free.

  • Protein Blend

    ProSupps MyBar Ingredients

MyBar has a laundry list of ingredients, but still relatively low in fillers.

MyBar uses a blend of two forms of whey protein as the primary protein source which  includes Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) and Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC). Though this blend will contribute the majority of the protein content in the bar, looking a little further down the ingredient list, you’ll also find some Pea Protein Isolate lurking there as well. We imagine this is added more for texture and to help firm or “thicken” the bar up more than anything.

Listing WPI first in the protein blend makes MyBar a great choice for those who experience GI distress when eating protein bars or powders that primarily consist of lower quality whey protein concentrates, as WPI contains a minimum of 90% protein with almost no traces of lactose, carbs or fats.[1]

However, if you’re completely lactose intolerant, the whey concentrate may take this product out of the running for you.

  • Sweeteners

    ProSupps MyBar Peak Week

The wait is OVER, MyBar is now available for purchase!!!

Most of you that are protein aficionados here are used to seeing IMO (isomalto-oligosaccharides or Vita-Fiber™) or soluble corn fiber listed as the primary sweetener / binding agent. However, scrolling through the ingredient list, you actually won’t find any contained here in ProSupps MyBar. Something new for once this year!!

If you’re wondering what sweeteners you will find in MyBar, you’ll see the sugar, the sugar-alcohol Sorbitol, molasses, and sucralose. As a side note, some people are particularly sensitive to sugar alcohols when used in high amounts. This can lead to a number of GI issues including bloating, cramping and excessive gas to name a few.[2,3]

We’re not saying this will definitely happen, but if you’ve had a previous bad experience with sugar alcohol consumption, you may want to tread carefully with these bars.

No IMOs = Less fiber, but do you care when you want the taste?

Side note, one drawback to not including IMOs in the bar is that these are extremely low in “fiber” compared to other prominent protein bars that do include IMOs. However, the lack of IMOs may help late tasting the texture of the bars.

  • The Rest

    ProSupps MyBar Label

ProSupps MyBar may not have the best macros, but it sure will be tasty!

As we mentioned up top, MyBars are anything but light on ingredients. Perusing the ingredient list past the proteins and sweeteners, you’ll encounter all sorts of additives like Water, Palm Kernel Oil, Soybean Oil, Tapioca Starch, Salt, Caramel Color, Soy Lecithin, Almond Butter, etc.

Now, none of these are inherently “bad” ingredients, but the trend in protein bars (and the industry as a whole) lately has been to err on the side the more natural ingredients, with less filler and fluff. Overall, MyBar seems par for the course with most other major supplement players who’ve debuted a bar recently.

We’re hoping the way these taste though is what really makes them stand out!

Each MyBar packs the following nutritional breakdown:

  • Calories: 220
  • Protein: 20g
  • Carbs: 17g (6g sugar)
  • Fats: 10g (5g saturated)

Flavors Available

Here’s the most important for most people, yes, even more important that protein content or whether or not it’s gluten-free. A protein bar’s success is extremely dependent upon its flavor lineup and how well those flavors taste.

ProSupps MyBar Protein

Mike’s way too early review of MyBar is that it’s a HIT from all aspects of taste and texture. But we need to do some more sampling before we post our final judgement!

And according to Mike’s early taste-test of these bars at the Olympia, “it’s literally a candy bar with protein. Unreal. This would compete with the original OhYeah! Bars!” Truly high praise from our in-house protein bar aficionado.

MyBar will come in four different flavors, including:

  • Iced Cinnamon Crunch
  • Peanut Butter Crunch
  • Ice Cream Cookie Crunch
  • Salted Caramel Peanut Crunch

Our second MyBar Review

Still the best-tasting!

Mike’s early MyBar review

It’s worth noting that Mike stole a bite off of Marc Lobliner’s Ice Cream Cookie Crunch MyBar — don’t worry, he ripped some off of the clean end that Lobliner had not yet licked — so he didn’t eat the entire bar. Sometimes you need to eat a few good bars to get a real feel for it – but Mike only had a couple of bites.

Either way, it was literally a candy bar with protein, but better. Tasted exactly like cookies and cream should taste, and texture had the soft part and the crunches. We seriously need to get more!

FINALLY. Someone besides Bhu Fit Bars did something different!

The avalanche of new protein bar releases has indeed continued with the debut of ProSupps MyBar. Based off initial feedback, this bar tastes phenomenal!

We’ll have to wait and see how the market reacts as a whole to yet another protein bar being placed on the store shelves.
