PEScience Select Protein4Oats Goes VANILLA for a “Daily Driver”

Back in mid-2017, PEScience launched their ridiculously underrated Select Protein 4 Oats protein powder, which was a version of their uber-popular Select Protein designed to be mixed into your oatmeal.

PEScience Select Protein 4 Oats Vanilla

It took two years, but PEScience has a new Select Protein 4 Oats flavor: Vanilla!

It didn’t receive the most fanfare in the world, but those who like it… LOVE IT! And with good reason!

So finally, a year late, Mike got a few sample packets and gave it a go in his Select Protein 4 Oats review on YouTube (also shown below). Long story short?! This stuff is insane!! Especially the Maple Brown Sugar flavor, although all of them were incredible. Not only did they mix perfectly well in water-based oatmeal, but they added the perfect amount of flavor (and protein) to the oatmeal profile, making for a far more nutrient-dense, protein-leveraged, and tasty meal!

Select Protein 4 Oats Gets a New Flavor: Vanilla

And while those original three flavors are downright insane, over time, a lot of customers wanted something a bit more…. normal! Maple Brown Sugar is fantastic, but as your “daily driver”, sometimes you just want to stick to ol’ reliable vanilla. And for whatever reason, so many other quality vanilla protein powders just don’t mix well in oats. But this one will.

PEScience Select Protein4Oats Vanilla

The nutrition facts, which show your macros before and after adding 40g oats. Cook it before adding the protein!

Select Protein4Oats Vanilla Ingredients and Macros

Remember, this protein’s made to be mixed with your oatmeal, but the calories and macros below are without the oats. You can add as you wish (although it’s generally recommended to use 1/2 cup / 40g old fashioned oats per serving of Protein4Oats:

  • Calories: 80
  • Protein: 15g
  • Fat: 1g
  • Carbohydrates: 2g
    • Dietary Fiber: 1g
    • Sugar: 1g

Ingredients: Select Protein and a Dash of “Help”

The powder is very similar to the original Select Protein, in that it has the same Protein Blend (Milk Protein Isolate followed by Whey Protein Concentrate 80%). The Milk Protein Isolate has mostly casein involved, so this ends up being a roughly 50/50 casein/whey split, and the casein adds some thickness and richness to the blend.

After that come the flavoring, salt, and sweeteners (acesulfame potassium). Notice that there’s no added thickeners — this is because the casein portion of the milk protein isolate is used as the thickener, keeping this a very “lean” protein and high on the protein-by-weight percent scale.

More salt for the rescue

The biggest difference here, outside of a shifted flavor system? More sodium. If you compare Select Protein’s vanilla to this vanilla, you’ll see very similar sodium number (230mg in Select vs. 220mg in Select Protein4Oats), but Protein4Oats is in a much smaller serving size (31g in Select Protein vs. 20g in Protein4Oats).

This makes total sense to anyone who’s ever added just a dash of extra salt to their oats. Too much is awful, but the right amount is just perfect!

Cook the oats first!

Note the instructions – you cook your oats before you add in Select Protein4Oats! Also note that old fashioned oats are going to work better than those 60 second instant oats.

The available flavors

The following list will stay up-to-date with all of the Select Protein 4 Oats flavors available from PEScience:

    Two Years in the Making!

PEScience Select Protein Chocolate Mint Cookie

PEScience Select Protein Chocolate Mint Cookie was the latest Select Protein flavor released as of this post!

PEScience has continually released some great stuff, as you can see on our PEScience News page (most recently were our articles on Select Protein Chocolate Mint Cookie and Cake Pop flavored Select Protein). Eat enough oats and you could stack very well with the limited edition Mass-NP nutrient partitioner for bulkers that came out for winter 2019/2020.

But sometimes, when you have a brand that’s rolling, they don’t get around to developing some of their other products, and Protein4Oats is one that gets forgetting all too often. It’s nothing earth-shattering, but it does live up to its name.

If you’re into oats, at some point in the future you should “Select the Best” and try any of these flavors of Protein4Oats. Brown Sugar Maple is likely to remain king, but Vanilla is now here for everyone that needs that good “daily driver”.
