The SuperHuman product series has dominated the sports-performance based supplement market ever since its inception. But now’s the perfect time to take the SuperHuman platform to the next level by expanding the line ever further, and venturing out into uncharted territory, and for good reason.

After all, just how “SuperHuman” can you really be if your gut and digestion is a mess?

SuperHuman Gut: A Complete Gut Health Formula

Alpha Lion already has a few products that fall into the health and wellness category, including SuperHuman Greens, a nutrient packed greens powder. But now they’re ready to tackle a challenging category: gut health, with their newest addition to the SuperHuman line-up, SuperHuman Gut.

Alpha Lion SuperHuman Gut

Alpha Lion SuperHuman Gut has five core tradmarked ingredients to support a healthy digestive system.

If you’ve checked out our SuperHuman Armor blog post, then you know one of the ways to strengthen your immune system is by optimizing your gut health. Your gastrointestinal tract can serve as a defense mechanism by identifying pathogens and acting accordingly to make sure they don’t cause any harm. Poor gut health can lead to several medical conditions, since your body may not be getting the nutrients it needs, even despite having a well-balanced diet.

In this post, we’re going to cover SuperHuman Gut’s formula to explain the science behind the ingredients, showcase the benefits, and outline how you can utilize it for the best results. SuperHuman Gut Ingredients

When developing a formula, Alpha Lion has several pillars of excellence they want the product to uphold before heading to manufacturing. One of those pillars is always “Enhanced Nutrient Absorption”, because it’s something that Alpha Lion really cares about.

You can have a product that’s maximally dose with great ingredients, but if your body doesn’t absorb it then…does it matter? If you’ve checked out any of Alpha Lion’s formulas, they almost always include an ingredient that’s been clinically tested to boost bioavailability and absorption, such as AstraGin or Bioperine.

The Importance Of Absorption and Bioavailability

Alpha Lion SuperHuman Gut Ingredients

SuperHuman Gut features several trademarked ingredients to create a complete daily gut health formula.

Although having absorption-enhancing ingredients in supplements is great, what if your body has trouble absorbing other nutrients that you intend to get from your diet. If your gut health is off, then it’s likely that you’re unable to properly breakdown and absorb both macro and micronutrients. And that can lead to major performance and health detriments, and even more hunger that leads to weight gain.

This is exactly why Alpha Lion created SuperHuman Gut, because that’s the last thing they want happening. The importance of gut health doesn’t get talked about nearly enough, but luckily Alpha Lion is re-sparking the conversation in a world where everyone is only focusing on the immunity aspect.

SuperHuman Gut is a capsule based product and each bottle contains 90 capsules total. The recommended dosing protocol is to take one capsule three times a day with meals, so you’re received a full month’s supply! This protocol was set up to maximize your absorption throughout the day for optimal results. As always, SuperHuman Gut uses a fully transparent label, efficacious dosages, and several patented or trademarked ingredients.

Now, let’s dive into what one capsule of SuperHuman Gut has to offer!

  • Tributyrin (as CoreBiome) – 1g

The first ingredient to kickstart SuperHuman gut is Tributyrin trademarked as CoreBiome.

CoreBiome comes from Compound Solutions, and is known as “the intelligent microbiome”.[1] They also classify it as a “postbiotic”,[1] which often gets overlooked when discussing gut health. Typically, people only bring up the importance of prebiotics and probiotics, but what about postbiotics?

    • Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Postbiotics

Prebiotics are a specific type of dietary fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your digestive tract.[2] Probiotics are live bacteria in which, people ingest to increase the amount of good bacteria in their gut.[3]

Alpha Lion SuperHuman Gut Trademarked Ingredients

Five trademarked ingredients for optimal results!

A “postbiotic” is a more novel concept since it’s rarely talked about, and tributyrin is one of the few ingredients available that fall under that category. In general, these are bioactive components that get produced during fermentation of fibers inside the gut and they too, largely contribute to gut health.[4]

So even if you’re getting in an adequate amount of prebiotics and probiotics, you might be missing out on some benefits from forgetting about postibiotics – especially if you don’t eat a lot of fermented foods like our ancestors traditionally did. But that’s where the tributyrin in SuperHuman Gut can help out!

    • The Microbiome

The human microbiome is extremely sophisticated, but to keep things simple, just know that it consists of all the microbes (fungi, bacteria, and viruses) that live on and inside your body.

You’ll often hear the term microbiome come up when talking about gut health, because the majority of bacteria are found within your gastrointestinal tract.

There’s good bacteria and bad bacteria, but in order to stay healthy, there has to be an appropriate balance between the two. The goal is always to have a higher amount of good bacteria, and as you’ll see Alpha Lion takes that into consideration with several of the ingredients included in this formula.

    • What is Butyric Acid?

The good bacteria that reside in your gut help break down various substrates like carbs, proteins, lipids, and fibers, allowing your body to absorb them. But, what does that have to do with tributyrin? Well, specifically when the good bacteria metabolizes fiber, it creates a fatty acid called butyric acid.[5]

      SuperHuman Gut Core Biome

SuperHuman Gut is powered by CoreBiome!

This fatty acid can also be found in butter, ghee, and other animal fats. Butyric acid is a short chain fatty acid (SCFA) that’s a crucial component of proper gut health.[5] Despite having similar names, butyrate is an isomer of butyric acid metabolism and it’s linked to a wide variety of physiological activities such as, regulation of the immune system, energy balance, body weight, and brain function.[5]

Although it takes on several roles, butyrate is mainly utilized to supply energy to the cells within your large intestine (colon).[5] There are several components that make up the digestive system including the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, pancreas, and liver. They all have their own unique roles and if one isn’t functioning efficiently then everything can be negatively affected. Several GI disorders involve the colon, such as irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and colon cancer, just to name a few. The large intestine’s main function is to pull water, salt, and some nutrients out of the stool to get reabsorbed.

    • Benefits of Tributyrin

Since butyrate is a foundational aspect of gut health, specifically involving the colon, Compound Solutions developed a supplemental form to ensure your body isn’t lacking in this essential molecule.

CoreBiome is claimed to be the first bioavailable form of butyrate on the market.[1] Research shows after just three weeks of supplementing with 300mg of CoreBiome, it was able to increase the amount of two bacteria involved in butyrate production, faecalibacterium prausnitzii and placebo anaerostipes, compared to a placebo.[6]

Increasing the amount of butyrate is very beneficial for a variety of reasons, here are some of the main benefits and roles attributed to it:

      • SuperHuman Greens Anabolic Apple

Pair SuperHuman Gut with SuperHuman Greens for an epic health stack!

Enhanced immune system strength by improving the integrity of the epithelial barrier[3]

      • Acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps combat several GI disorders[3]

      • Supports digestive, gut, and GI health by impacting gene expression[3]

      • Boosts microbiome health via regulation of microbe-to-host communication[3]

      • Balances the microflora through increasing the ratio of good vs bad bacteria[3]

      • Serves as an antioxidant and reduces oxidative stress[3]

      • Promotes regularity by alleviating constipation[3]

As you can see the gut plays an important role in not only metabolism and absorption, but it also serves as your first line of defense against foregin pathogens. If your GI tract is running at full capacity it can identify and may prevent any harmful bacteria or viruses from causing excessive damage. Plus the gut is connected to virtually every other system within your body, so taking care of it is essential. Luckily, Alpha Lion is here to help you out with SuperHuman Gut!

  • DigeZyme Multi Enzyme Complex (α-amylase, protease, lipase, cellulase, lactase) – 100mg

    DigeZyme Multi Enzyme Complex Logo

DigeZyme is a Multi Enzyme Complex formulated by a leading ingredient supplier in the industry, Sabinsa Corp.

A well-balanced diet typically consists of a good ratio of the three macronutrients: nutrient-dense carbs, healthy fats, proteins, as well as micronutrients coming from a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and even organ meats. In order to absorb all the nutrients efficiently, the food we ingest must be properly broken down.

This is where enzymes become a crucial step in the process of digestion. In general, enzymes react with specific substrates to turn them into smaller “products” that can be easily absorbed by the small intestine. Without enough of the enzyme present, then you’ll likely get gastrointestinal distress because your body cannot properly metabolize that specific substrate.

Therefore, a key component to gut health is ensuring your body has the right amount of enzymes to digest all the things you consume. Which is exactly why SuperHuman Gut includes DigeZyme, a multi-enzyme complex, developed by an industry leader, Sabinsa Corp.[7] There are five main digestive enzymes that will assist you in breaking down several compounds.

Here are the digestive enzymes that’s included in DigeZyme to help you properly absorb a wide variety of nutrients:

    • Alpha Lion SuperHuman Gut Highlights

Some of the key benefits SuperHuman Gut has to offer!

      α-Amylase: Starches (carbs)

    • Protease: Proteins

    • Cellulase: Cellulose (found in various types of plants)

    • Lactase: Lactose (found in dairy products)

    • Lipase: Lipids (fats)

For example, the most common type of GI distress that most people understand is lactose intolerance. Lactose is a sugar found in dairy, and if you lack the enzyme that helps you digest it, called lactase, then you’ll experience some digestive issues. Some people don’t have the enzyme at all, while others may have the enzyme but not enough of it.

Improved digestibility with DigeZyme will help you absorb the nutrients more optimally, which will help nourish your body and avoid GI distress.[7,8] Increasing the bioavailability of various nutrients is great for your health, but what about performance? Research shows that DigeZyme is able to improve symptoms of delayed onset muscle soreness and decrease markers of muscle damage (creatine kinase and lactase dehydrogenase) following eccentric exercise.[8]

The researchers speculate that DigeZyme is able to achieve these positive effects by expressing anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.[8]

    • Can it prevent some soreness?

When you get sore after a workout, it’s typically caused by the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the inflammatory response. Although ROS get produced from several biological processes, having an excessive amount can start to harm your healthy cells because they are highly reactive. ROS will bind to healthy cells and leads to damage of their DNA, proteins, and enzymes.

Furthermore, inflammation typically gets handled by various cells that are components of your immune system. And theoretically, if those cells are busy taking care of your damaged muscle tissue, then there’s less of them to identify and destroy foriegn pathogens. Therefore, you may be at an increased risk of getting sick if you’re constantly “damaged” from SuperHuman-style training! Being less inflamed and limiting the production of ROS are two key factors that will help keep you healthy by boosting your immune system!

  • LactoSpore (Bacillus Coagulans) 6 Billion CFUs per Gram – 100mg

DigeZyme is not the only gut health ingredient Sabinsa offers, they also have a commercial probiotic known as LactoSpore that’s clinically validated. LactoSpore consists of a L+ lactic acid producing microbial preparation derived from Bacillus Coagulan, MTCC 5965.[9]

    LactoSpore Logo

LactoSpore features a stable form of a probiotic that may improve gut health. It was created by Sabinsa Corp.

If you’ve ever looked into supplements geared towards improving gut health, it’s likely that you’ve come across probiotics. Regardless of what you may think, not all bacteria is bad and the body is actually full of bacteria. There are millions of good bacteria cells that reside within your digestive tract.

Good bacteria help maintain gut health by aiding the digestion of food, getting rid of toxins, and reducing the growth and spread of bad bacteria. In fact, if you lack a sufficient amount of good bacteria, then you’re more likely to experience unwanted side effects, especially involving the gastrointestinal tract. And if not addressed, it could lead to severe medical conditions.

It’s fairly common to supplement with probiotics in an effort to increase the amount of good bacteria in the gut. Although the gut is a very complex system, and more research is needed to fully understand how it works, probiotics seem to have a positive effect on the gut by reducing inflammation, improving gut microflora, and enhancing the synthesis of beneficial short chain fatty acids.[9,10]

    • Benefits of Lactospore

Research shows regular consumption of probiotics results in several health benefits, such as increased immune system functioning, decreased cholesterol levels, improves symptoms of gastrointestinal distress, and reduces the risk of several digestive disorders.[10] In addition, they express anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.[10]

A study done in 2015 found that Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5965 supplementation along with standard treatment of care was able to improve symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).[10]

Other studies have shown that LactoSpore supplementation in combination with an aqueous cinnamon extract (Cinnulin PF) seem to have a synergistic effect by boosting phagocytosis, and regulating blood sugar and cholesterol levels.[11] In addition, the dynamic duo was able to decrease the amount of intestinal damage in mice with colitis.[11]

Not all probiotics are created equal, and LactoSpore consists of a strain that’s backed by research, non-GMO, stable at room temperature, GRAS (generally regarded as safe) status certified, and can withstand high heats.[9] It’s been on the market for over 20 years, so you know it’s trusted and a high quality source of probiotics.

  • PepZin GI (Zinc-L-Carnosine Complex) – 75mg (Delivering 16mg of Zinc)

PepZin GI is a trademarked ingredient from Hamari Chemicals, and it includes a combination of zinc chelated to L-carnosine.[12] Zinc is an essential mineral that’s crucial for a proper functioning immune system, among several other roles it takes on throughout the body.[13]

    PepZin GI Logo

PepZin GI consists of a combination of carnosine and zinc to support gastric health!

Its importance for optimizing the immune system is why there’s a generous dose of zinc included in SuperHuman Armor. There’s a strong connection between the gut and immune system, if you can’t tell by now! It’s important to note that you cannot endogenously synthesize zinc, therefore it must be attained through diet or supplementation.[13]

On the other hand, L-carnosine is made within the body by using two amino acids, L-histidine and beta-alanine.[14] It’s found in both muscle and brain tissue in high concentrations.[14] We typically talk about carnosine in regards to increasing sports performance, because of its ability to buffer lactic acid.[15] However, it’s also important for proper brain functioning as well.

On their own, zinc and carnosine are very beneficial, and they seem to have similar pharmacological properties, since both are involved in tissue repair, membrane stabilization, immunomodulation, and act as antioxidants. But when combined, they may have synergistic effects for boosting gut health – especially because it vastly improves zinc absorption!

Cheaper forms of zinc, such as zinc oxide, don’t get absorbed well at all. But when you bind them to amino acids that are absorbed well by the small intestine, then you can “Trojan Horse” those minerals into the bloodstream!

These chelated minerals are not cheap by any means – but they’re vastly superior.

    • Benefits of PepZin GI

PepZin GI was specially formulated to give zinc the unique ability to express its positive effects directly onto the cells within the stomach lining when taken orally.[12] The binding of zinc to L-carnosine additionally prolongs the amount of time it stays within the stomach. Eventually, zinc and L-carnosine will completely dissociate from each other, however with an extended duration of time being kept in the stomach, it’s more beneficial for healing the gut.[12]

      Alpha Lion Goatein

GOATEIN is the perfect addition to SuperHuman Gut!

Several studies have concluded, PepZin GI expresses potent anti-ulcer properties through offering cytoprotection and helping enhance tissue repair with both chronic and acute ulcers.[12] Ulcers are sores that can develop within the GI tract and are most commonly caused by a bacterial infection. Research speculates that PepZin GI’s antiulcer effects are due to its ability to act as an antioxidant and antibacterial agent, while also stabilizing cells’ membranes and promoting wound healing.[12]

Furthermore PepZin GI provides a highly bioavailable form of zinc, which can help maintain a healthy gut by aiding carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.[12] Finally, PepZin GI has been shown to support the health of gastric cells by defending against free radical damage, maintain a good balance of bacteria in the stomach and GI tract by reducing the number of potentially harmful bacteria, and may help relieve general gastrointestinal discomfort.[12]

According to the research, it’s crystal clear that PepZin GI is a powerhouse at improving gut health and it’s only one ingredient in SuperHuman Gut!

  • AstraGin (Astragalus Membranaceus (Root) and Panax Notoginseng (Root) – 75mg

AstraGin consists of two potent plant extracts, astragalus membranaceus and panax notoginseng, developed by Nuliv Science. You can find AstraGin in several of Alpha Lion’s products, because it helps with the absorption of several nutrients and ingredients included in their formulas.

AstraGin is a combination of Astragalus and Panax Notoginseng that’s been shown to increase ingredient absorption, especially of amino acids!

As we previously mentioned optimal bioavailability and absorption is key to getting the most out of not only your supplements, but also your diet. Even if your diet is well-rounded and nutrient dense, you could benefit from having an ingredient that boosts your ability to absorb everything, instead of just letting it go to waste. Several studies have found that AstraGin can improve the body’s ability to uptake amino acids, peptides, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and omega-3 fatty acids.[16]

But that’s not all AstraGin can do to improve gut health!

It can also help restore damaged intestinal walls, decrease inflammation, reduce ulceration within the gut, maintain a healthy microbiota by promoting the growth of good bacteria, and support a stronger immune system![16]

AstraGin is truly a game changing ingredient and Alpha Lion understands the value it offers, which is why it’s included in SuperHuman Gut and several other products they sell. We told you this formula was stacked and AstraGin is a great ingredient to round out the formula!
