APS Mesomorph: Powerhouse Pre Workout Reformulated

APS Mesomorph

APS and Hi-Tech have reformulated Mesomorph to now contain Senegalia Berlandieri and Isopropylnorsynephrine.

All hope is not lost, because just when things looked their bleakest Hi-Tech and APS Nutrition went back to the drawing board and came up with a revamped (and possibly more intense) version of the strongest pre workout on the market — Mesomorph

Mesomorph Ingredients

Mesomorph uses 3 different proprietary blends to get you amped up for your impending lift session. Although APS / Hi-Tech have been forced to change formula, they’ve added in two other potent stimulants to up the intensity and feel good effects of this top pre workout.

  • Synthenox-Carnosine / Nitric Oxide Complex (6.5g)

    • Beta Alanine (3.2g per full serving)

      APS Mesomorph Senegalia Ingredients

Now replaced by a combo of senegalia berlandieri and isopropylnorsynephrine for enhanced mood and intense energy.

Update: We now know that Mesomorph contains a full 3.2g beta alanine per scoop!

Whether engaged in an endurance event or high rep lifting session, your muscles are eventually going to get that burning sensation in them. More often than not, this uncomfortable sensation causes you to prematurely fatigue and stop your set short, thus missing out the those all important muscle building reps.

Beta Alanine helps delay that burning sensation by increasing the carnosine concentrations in the body that buffer the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscle belly.[1] This helps to improve endurance, power, and strength.[2,3]

Given that this is the first ingredient in a 3-ingredient list weighing 6.5g, you will get at least 2.16g of beta alanine in a whole scoop – but we don’t know the details on the rest.

Since first publishing this post, APS reps have stated that there’s a full 3.2g beta alanine per serving – the clinically studied dose! You will likely get the tingles even if you take a 2/3 scoop serving like we do!

    • Citrulline Malate

Citrulline Malate is another fatigue fighter in the body that’s heavily involved in the urea cycle and the removal of ammonia from the body, making it another intracellular buffer. CM enhances the body’s ATP production, reduces fatigues and increases endurance, all of which result in greater lean body mass gains.[4,5,6,7]

That’s not all though. Citrulline Malate is also a superior nitric oxide booster compared to other pump aids like Arginine.[8] The end result is an ingredient that improves your overall athletic performance and yields some serious pumps.

Our guess is that there’s a ~2g dose here, but we can’t be certain with the proprietary blend.

    • Arginine AKG

Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate, or AAKG, is a nitric oxide precursor in the body that can improve blood flow and nutrient delivery (such as beta alanine or taurine) to skeletal muscles.

Supplementing with AAKG has been shown to increase strength and, when paired with creatine (like in Mesomorph), improves muscular endurance and peak power output.[9,10]

Citrulline definitely works better, but many users still enjoy AAKG, so it could be good to see it here, attacking multiple pathways. We still wonder about the dosing here, though. Thankfully, we also have more pumps coming later in the form of the nitrate from creatine nitrate.

  • Mesoswell-Cell Volumizing ATP Matrix (4.5mg)

    • Di-Creatine Malate

      Creatine Solubility

Many think creatine nitrate is better than monohydrate due to its higher solubility, but there are no studies validating its effectiveness over mono.

Creatine Malate is a novel form of creatine that binds the compound to malic acid, similar to citrulline malate. This is done to help improve the bioavailability of creatine ensuring it is readily absorbed by the muscles and not broken down in the stomach to the useless byproduct, creatinine.

Creatine malate claims to confer all the strength and power benefits of creatine supplementation[11,12] with none of the “bloat” that’s sometimes seen with monohydrate use. Malic acid also helps improve endurance by acting as a buffer in your muscles, similar to what occurs with citrulline malate.[13]

    • Taurine

Taurine is an incredibly abundant amino acid in the body that’s mainly stored in the muscles, heart, and brain. Typically, there are usually ample amounts of taurine in the body, but during periods of intense exercise, the body can’t produce enough to meet demand, thus making it “conditionally essential.”

Taurine helps pull water and nutrients, thereby acting as a cell volumizer.[14] Overall, you’ll experience better pumps and reduced delayed onset muscle soreness when supplementing with it.[15]

    • Creatine Nitrate

Here we have another creatine hybrid that further improves pumps due to its nitrate component. A lot of the bros in the community believe creatine nitrate to be superior monohydrate due to its increased water solubility, which theoretically yields better absorption.

If you’re here, you’re probably here for the extreme energy and focus, and you sure are going to get it with Mesomorph. Game over.

However, no current studies on creatine nitrate exist showing it superior to monohydrate in terms of strength, body composition, or athletic performance.

With that said, the nitrate portion of this molecule will definitely lead to increased pumps – especially since we know it’s at least 300mg worth, a great start for a nitrate compound. Creatine Nitrate is roughly 67.5% creatine, 32.5% nitrate.

      Nitrate synergy with arginine

To top it off, the nitrate will definitely work very well alongside the arginine up above, making the nitric oxide boost last longer too.[35,36]

    • Ascorbic Acid (300mg Vitamin C)

More commonly known as Vitamin C, ascorbic acid is a water-soluble vitamin and powerful antioxidant in the body. While early research showed that high doses of antioxidant decreased athletic performance,[16,17] there is so other research that paints a different picture.

Vitamin C can actually improve overall performance when taken pre workout.[18] Another study suggests Vitamin C augments nitric oxide production,[19] by preserving the mechanisms of the Nitric Oxide Synthase enzyme (eNOS). Basically this improves overall NO production in the body further increasing pumps and vascularity.

It’s also synergistic with the nitrates in creatine nitrate above.

Note: Some labels online are out of date – they should state that there is 300mg Vitamin C from this product, as confirmed by APS.

    • Creatinol-O-Phosphate

      APS Mesomorph Stack

With so many flavor options of Mesomorph available, which will you choose?

Creatinol-O-Phosphate (COP) is a great ingredient for increasing athletic performance and endurance that acts as a lactic acid buffer, similar to beta alanine. Additionally, COP contributes a phosphate-group back to the ATP process, which increases creatine’s effects.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a ton of research confirming the benefits of COP currently. Hopefully this changes soon, as more products coming to market seem to, be including this endurance maximizer.

    • Agmatine Sulfate

Amatine sulfate is another well-known nitric oxide booster and neurotransmitter in the body that inhibits the breakdown of NO in the body.[20] Since it’s also a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator, Agmatine Sulfate can also aid with focus and during your gym sessions.[21]

The usual dose in a pre workout is 500mg, but we’re not quite sure how much is in Mesomorph. However, the combination of Citrulline Malate, Taurine, Creatine Nitrate, AAKG, and Agmatine should deliver some very respectable pumps.

  • Neuromorph-Neuro Energized Stimulant Matrix (1.87g)

    • Glucuronolactone

Glucuronolactone is a metabolite of glucose that helps regulate the formation of glycogen in the body. It’s included in nearly every energy drink, and quite a few pre workouts, but has very little, if any research on it, and makes us wonder why it’s used so frequently.

After talking with APS, we got some clarification on why they chose to include it in Mesomorph:

“Most people think it has an energy component but we use it with the vitamin C as an exercise enhancer to improve people’s overall performance and recovery due to its anti-oxidant value.”

One study has been published showing glucuronolactone to be an ergogenic ingredient. While the study was conducted on animals, the human equivalent dose (1-2g) should improve endurance capacity.[37]

The amount included in Mesomorph is 1.3g, whereas the standard can of Red Bull only contains roughly 600mg of the compound.

    • Caffeine Anhydrous (300mg)

Here’s a real energy booster all pre workouts should contain. Caffeine has been shown over and over and over to improve mood, focus, performance, and endurance.[22,23]

Mesomorph packs a robust 300mg caffeine anhydrous per scoop, which is quite a hit of caffeine for most, but minuscule for others addicted to energy drinks, coffee, and pre workouts. Whatever your caffeine tolerance, Mesomorph’s litany of other stimulants definitely adds extra “oomph” so that you’ll never need more than a full scoop.

    • Senegalia Berlandieri

      Acacia Rigidula Research

On its own, 250mg Acacia Rigidula outperforms 30mg ephedrine in VO2 testing. Senegalia Berlandieri is extremely similar to this acacia.

The first of the two ingredients added into the updated version of Mesomorph to replace the formula with Senegalia Berlandieri, an extract extremely similar to Acacia Rigidula. Senegalia extract is standardized to provide 200mg worth of several PEA alkaloids including N-Phenethyldimethylamine, B-Phenylethylamine, and N-Methyl-B-Phenylethylamine.

This mood-boosting ingredient promotes greater dopamine and adrenaline levels in the body which should substantially enhance energy too. Research using acacia extract (which this basically is) demonstrates that it boasts the same fat-burning, energy boosting effects as 30mg of ephedrine.[27,28]

    • Theobromine

Theobromine comes from cocoa and often associated with that quintessential “feel-good” sensation many experience when eating dark chocolate. Aside from improving your mood, it also imparts a mild stimulatory effect, similar to caffeine, but has a smoother more prolonged effect.[24]

When combined with caffeine and the other stims still to come, theobromine helps smooth out any crash or “bottoming out” some experience when ingesting high amounts of caffeine. Basically, you can stay energized longer and enjoy a smooth ride down from the energy high in the ensuing hours.

    • Naringin

      APS Mesomorph King

For a long time, Mesomorph has reigned supreme as the King of Pre workouts, and it still shines

Naringin is a compound found in grapefruits that’s gained notoriety as being beneficial for diabetics and lowering blood pressure.[25,26]

There is some thought that it may improve energy levels and weight loss, but the research is mixed. We’ve seen great success with it in a few fat burners, but haven’t always felt it. It does, however, seem to come along with the next ingredient quite frequently:

    • Isopropylnorsynephrine

The final ingredient of the new edition of Mesomorph is an isopropyl derivative of a well known fat loss agent present in citrus aurantium, synephrine. Isopropylnorsynephrine is an incredibly potent fat loss agent.[33] Studies note the compound is “active at 1 μg/ml and reproducing more than 60% of isoprenaline maximal effect in human adipocytes”.[33]

In fact, this novel stimulant is so potent that it’s been touted by some as the strongest stimulant on a mg/mg basis ever!
